LONDON, (AFP) - Fiery England striker Wayne Rooney said on Sunday he would like to have as long a career at Manchester United as stalwarts Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs. The 20-year-old told the Sunday Mirror he would like to extend his present contract which runs till 2010 and had no intention of looking to move to another club. "People say I could now have my pick of clubs but this is where I want to be," said Rooney, who was sent-off for the second successive match following his dismissal in the World Cup quarter-final against Portugal when he was red carded in the friendly with FC Porto last Friday.
"I want to extend my contract. I don't want to go anywhere else.
"I look at people like Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs and I want to be here as long as they have. This is a big club and no-one I know ever wants to leave," added Rooney, who has won just a League Cup winners medal last season since his move from Everton two years ago.
Rooney said he was determined to add to his medal tally.
"I want to win everything - the Premiership, the Champions League and, yes also, the World Cup," he added.
"It might not happen, but that's what my aim is. That's the reason I'm in football."
Rooney said that he was dedicated to toppling Chelsea from the Premiership summit and restoring United's former dominance.
"I don't have any regrets whatsoever about joining United," he said.
"I came here because when I was growing up they were the team that won everything and I believe I can achieve what I want to achieve here.
"There is something that is very special about the club and I want to be part of that for as long as I can."

Giggs offers to fill midfield gap
Winger Ryan Giggs says he is prepared to play in central midfield to help out Manchester United.
New signing from Tottenham, Michael Carrick, is set to miss the start of the season with an ankle injury and Paul Scholes may be suspended.
Giggs, 32, moved from the wing into the centre at the end of last season.
He said: "We have more options now but if the manager asked me to go back in there I would do so and I would enjoy it because I enjoyed it last season."
New signing Carrick was injured in the friendly against Ajax on Saturday, while Scholes - together with striker Wayne Rooney - was sent off against Porto.
However, United boss Sir Alex Ferguson says he is "confident" of signing at least one more player before the new season starts.
That player is expected to be Villarreal midfielder Marcos Senna. |
