This New Zealand- Australian co production house has already created a sensation making the trilogy " Lord Of The Rings". Not only that the technical advisor of that trilogy Mr. Ken Kahn will be directing the film. She will be portraying the character of a NRI girl who is born and brought up in New Zealand opposite Australian actor Ben Mitchell. She is not only excited about working in an international project but about the role she will be playing. Here she has a chance to prove her mettle as an actress without doing only the dancing and singing sequences. She has that Indian values but her viewpoint of looking towards life is different from her parents. The shooting will be starting in the middle of this month.

"I never said I was unhappy with John as an actor. We sorted out the differences. Not just Bhootnath. I also want John to play Arjun in my Mahabharat where Bipasha will be Draupadi. He has the right personality for my version of the epic. Initially I did have reservations about John as Bhootnath.

But if you remember, I also had reservations about Kiran Kher in Bariwali. Finally she was fine. Once I came to terms with John as Bhootnath, I've decided to re-write the character to suit his persona."

Ritu describes his Draupadi as a mixture of B.R. Chopra's Mahabharat and Peter Brooks' take on the Hindu epic.

Beware of Kaali Billi Kareena

Kaali Billi is what Kareena Kapoor had called her during her shooting spat with Bipasha Basu in Ajnabee, a film about wife swapping by Abbas-Mustan, costarring Akshay Kumar and Bobby Deol. Those were the days of Spitfire Kareena and Bengal's Black Beauty on the rise. Bipasha had then, for whatever reason, stoood with grace on that, very much like Shilpa Shetty in Big Brother taking on racist Jude Goody recently! With Koffee With Karan second time around, each spisode is throwing up a quotable quote and raising a minor controversy, which only an anchor of Karan Johar's stature can generate. Most recently, it was Bipasha Basu's turn to throw a barb, and that too at old foe Kareena. Since then Kareenma has truned a bit of a bheegi billi and has kissed and made up with Karan Johar too, almost cornering him to cast her in his next film. And people were surprised to find a cool and calm Bipasha nonchalantly decimating Kareena now! Eyebrows shot up when Bipasha remarked that Kareena had "too many expressions" on her face when she performed onscreen. If not from kaali billi to bheegi billi, this rapier thrust is being seen by the industry folks as a neat retaliation to Kareena's comment some weeks ago that John Abraham, Bipasha's beau, was "expression-less." This has re-activated the whole Kareena-Bipasha war of Ajnabee days when in Switzerland, the two catty women had verbally clawed at each other over Kareena's costume designer lending a helping hand to Bipasha without Kareena's consent. But Bipasha seems genuinely taken aback at this interpretation of her remark. "I'm not that kind of a person," she has taken pains to clarify, but then, who admits to being that kind of person! "I certainly don't believe in tit for tat. And my episode of Koffee With Karan which was telecast on Sunday was recorded in the first week of December when I had no clue what Kareena would be saying about John." That is a very sound alibi indeed. In any case everyone is entitled to her opinion, as Bipasha firmly believes. She has never been particularly bothered about critics' opinions about her acting talent either. So, if Kareena thinks John is expressionless she could not be bothered either. "He's a grownup man. He can fight his own battles. I certainly won't jump in the fray for anyone else, not even my boyfriend," Bipasha has said. Why did she then take on Kareena in the show anyway? Bipasha clarified that she was asked her opinion about Kareena's acting talent, and being a woman of her own mind, she simply and honestly stated what she felt. As she did on Tanushree Dutta and Sunny Deol. Thos too she inisisted were not meant to be offensive at all. Bipasha was also asked who was her favourite costar, and she had singled out Saif Ali Khan and had said that when she had not acted with him yet. The same Ajnabee Abbas-Mustan's Race costars Saif. Bipasha has just returned to Mumbai from a long stint of Ajnabee Abbas-Mustan's Race in Dubai in time to shoot for a shampoo ad. But when she mentioned Saif as her favourite, it was before the Race was on!

Madhuri Dixit, who is making a comeback in tinsel town with Yashraj films' Aaja Nachle, celebrated her 40th birthday quietly with family members.

Madhuri is married to US based Dr Sriram Nene and is settled in Denver since her wedding in October 1999. She is currently in Mumbai to shoot for Aaja Nachle, starring Akshaye Khanna.

Her last film was Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas in 2002.

Madhuri spent her birthday with her children Arin and Ryan, her parents and in-laws. Dr Nene is scheduled to arrive in Mumbai next week. She will wrap up the shooting of her film on May 20 and leave for the US with her family, her business manager Rakeshnath told UNI.

He said Madhuri has not taken a break for her birthday and is currently shooting. ''My wife and I were the non-family members who were part of the quiet family celebration," he added.

Kim Sharma and Yuvraj Singh split?

Rumour has it that long-time lovers, actress Kim Sharma and cricketer Yuvraj Singh, have split.

It has been more than two years since Kim and Yuvraj first began dating. Though there never was any public acknowledgement of their affair by the couple, their dalliance was obviously more than just friendship. At one time they seemed inseparable. They attended parties and social dos together. In fact, Yuvi even got into a scuffle a few months back because some guy tried to tease Kim at Yuvi抯 birthday party.

But now, the busty Bollywood actress and the swashbuckling batsman seem to have parted ways.

The exact reason of the split is not yet known, but some reports say it was Kim抯 consistent indulgence in skin show in films that made Yuvi抯 mom disapprove of her.

There are also rumours that Kim and Yuvraj抯 affair has been on the rocks for sometime. Since last few months differences cropped in their personalities, leading to constant arguments and verbal fights.

Kim is presently shooting for a movie in the Mediterranean. Yuvi, on the other hand, is in Bangladesh for team India抯 ongoing cricket series.

Sanjay Dutt: Jail or Freedom?

A designated court will pass confidential orders on Wednesday in respect to the application filed by Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt and his three associates under probation of Offenders Act, seeking release on basis of their conduct. In case Sanjay Dutt's probation plea is denied he will spend at least 29 months in jail as a convict, without the privileges of home food or his favorite clothes. He will wear a coarse white uniform with or without stripes and eat food cooked in the jail kitchen. Dutt and his three friends were cleared of charges under Tada, however, they were found guilty under different provisions of Arms Act. Senior counsels V R Manohar and Harshad Ponda had argued the PoA applications. The Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam has opposed their plea. In his statements to court Dutt has always pleaded that he be spared as has a daughter to take care of and his family has suffered enough.

Ash will be a Shrewd woman!

After her marriage, Aishwarya Rai will face the camera for the first time in Ram Gopal Varma's ambitious sequel 'Sarkar 2'. The actress will play the pivotal role of a manipulative daughter-in-law of the Nagre family where Abhishek has assumed the position of the patriarch; an aged and feeble Amitabh Bachchan keeps himself to the house. The filmmaker, who is adept at making underworld-related films, now shifts the focus to the daughter-in-law who eventually, evolves as the matriarch in the family. Apparently, Aishwarya masterminds strategies to retain the family's monopoly in different underworld businesses. Abhishek will be shown falling back on his wife in times of crises. Amitabh Bachchan will be reduced to being a helpless old man who has only his experiences to share with his son, the new godfather. Abhishek, along with his wife, will run the business and sort out problems of the people. Aishwarya will be seen as a shrewd woman.

Some respite for Shilpa at last

The Supreme Court Tuesday halted all criminal proceedings against Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty who has been targeted for a public appearance during which Hollywood actor Richard Gere kissed her on the cheek. Shetty faces obscenity charges in three lower courts - at Jaipur in Mundwar in Rajasthan and Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh - brought by individuals outraged by the fact that Gere had embraced and kissed Shetty on the cheek during an AIDS awareness event here on Apr 15. A bench headed by Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan suspended the proceedings on a petition filed by Shetty Monday and issued notices to the complainants seeking their replies on her plea. In her plea, the glamorous actress said the complaints were "an abuse of the legal process" and had been filed only to harass and damage her career and reputation. She said the Gere Foundation was working on a programme to create awareness about the HIV/AIDS crisis in Asia and had launched a Heroes Project in India to mobilise various celebrities in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Shetty said she had been invited by the Heroes Project to address a public event in New Delhi on April 15 to spread awareness among truck drivers - a high-risk group - about HIV/AIDS. At the function, Gere, while re-enacting a sequence from his 2005 Hollywood movie 'Shall We Dance' hugged and kissed her on the cheek, she said, adding that this was meant to be a spoof. This hug-and-kiss episode, however, was repeatedly telecast on various television channels, triggering a controversy and leading people to file private complaints at lower courts. She said the Mundawar court in Rajasthan on April 20 had ordered an investigation into the episode and barred Gere from leaving India. On April 26, the Jaipur court had issued summons to her and an arrest warrant against Richard Gere.

She is almost a regular at Cannes Film Festival now but this time round Aishwarya Rai greeted the press for the first time as a Bachchan. The actress talks about life after marriage and more in conversation with CNN-IBN Entertainment Editor Rajeev Masand.
Rajeev Masand: Aishwarya, first of all congratulations. You are glowing and looking very good.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: Thank you very much.
Rajeev Masand: And I am guessing this has more to do with marriage than to do with L扥real. (Aishwarya is in Cannes as the brand ambassador of the brand)
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: That抯 a nice way of looking at it. (laughs)
Rajeev Masand: Now, you have been on a long holiday. It抯 been the honeymoon and you have been a while away from home, haven抰 you?
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: Yes, it has been fantastic. It抯 probably the best time for any normal girl.
Rajeev Masand: Abhishek is here with you in Cannes. So, is he looking forward to walking the red carpet and just sort of living your life for these few day because Cannes Film Festival is really your home, isn抰 it?
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: This is where you guys are troublemakers. You just sit and make statements on everything. We are together and it抯 not about getting into whose life it is. We are together and we are not getting into judging things the way probably you do. We are here for a day-and-a-half and then we are going to continue with our holiday for a little while more before we get back to a very hectic schedule.
Rajeev Masand: Is this the longest that you have been away from home?
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: It抯 really interesting but it抯 probably the longest time off I have ever had. And what a time! It抯 the best time to take time off.
Rajeev Masand: Do you feel married?
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: If this is what it is then it抯 a fantastic way to be. It抯 a wonderful place to be in and it抯 happiness for sure.
Rajeev Masand: We are also going to see shortly your film The Last Legion, your English film with Colin Firth and Ben Kingsley. It released in Russia and it抯 doing very well apparently. So, you looking forward to its release in India in August?
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: Yes, August for the rest of the world. For Russia they had already committed at this point of time. But it抯 a wonderful feeling to see the film open this positively.
Rajeev Masand: The next film that you are going to go into is Sarkar 2 which you start working on shortly. And this movie unites you with family, as you will be working with father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan and husband Abhishek Bachchan.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: Well, it抯 family for sure and in that sense it抯 great to be spending work time with the people you love. But at the same time as craftsmen our world knows how fantastic they are.
Rajeev Masand: Of course, I am not going to leave you without showing that gorgeous ring that Abhishek gave you.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: Oh, come on! (Giggles and doesn抰 flaunt the humongous diamond)

Dia another day

Suddenly, pretty Dia Mirza's plate seems to be overflowing with goodies. Earlier, she would be in the news for everything but work; but now the former Miss India is happy with the way things are moving for her.

"I am all raring to go," she smiles, as she readies herself for her next release, Shootout at Lokhandwala. The actress is flying to New York to do a seven-day workshop in acting at the New York University. There, she will learn advanced techniques of method acting. "Suddenly everything seems to be moving fast and forward. I am really happy," she says. Back home, Dia has been facing flak for reportedly misusing her friendship with filmmaker Sanjay Gupta to get roles in his movies.

After Shootout... it's Dus Kahaniyan and Alibaug. She also stands accused of creating problems between Sanjay and his director Apoorva Lakhia, "I am doing four films with Sanjay but it's unfair to suggest that I am getting roles based on my friendship with him. It takes away from my talent," she argues. And as for rumours linking her with him, she clarifies, "We share a congenial relationship, and a lot of respect for each other. But I don't have any pivotal role in his life."

Another rumour doing the rounds links her with Kunal Kapoor. They were a couple for sometime, though the duo never admitted to their romance, and Dia says, "We are not together now but we are in touch and remain good friends." She adds ruefully, "I would love to be in a steady relationship, who wouldn't, buts I am not destined to be in one."

Seven years in the industry and still to find her groove, Dia says, "Success comes only when it is due. I have no regrets. But yes, I am positive and enthusiastic. I feel a positive vibe this year." Her contemporary Priyanka Chopra has surpassed her. What does she have to say about that? "I am very happy that Priyanka's doing exceedingly well," says Dia wistfully.

Salman Khan is reportedly getting one for himself. Not to be outdone, Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) is now on the lookout for something grand that goes with his self proclaimed satus of Badshah of Bollywood SRK recently saw the vanity van that actor-architect-designer Riteish Deshmukh designed for himself. Smitten by it, he has asked Riteish to design one for him too at a cost of Rs 80 Lakhs. "Riteish's van is considered the best in Bollywood. He is an architect himself and is fond of cars," reports Mumbai Mirror. "Shah Rukh's van will be steel grey in color and the interiors will sport a leather finish. Riteish will work out the color scheme, which is red and white. SRK wants a 50-inch plasma TV inside his van along with five Bose speakers. It will have mini kitchen with a microwave and other cooking appliances. "There will be a wardrobe and a shoe rack. The guest corner will entertain media and other visitors. It will have water enough for 24 hours and a library of selected books." Friends have suggested that the signature of SRK should appear on the back of the van, but SRK has not responded to this request as yet!
