Primera Liga Best XI (Round 8)

There was an initial temptation to just list the entire Real Madrid eleven and get done with it, but here are this week's best:

Goalkeeper

1. Abbondanzieri (Getafe): The Argentine number one continues to rescue Getafe from trouble, as Schuster and boys continue their rise up the table.

Defenders

2. Ramos (Real Madrid): Someone said something about him being embarrassed by Ronaldinho last year!

3. Labaka (Real Sociedad): Rescued ten men Sociedad from the clutches of Arango and Mallorca, if only to make a tiny scratch on the points table.

4. Cannavaro (Real Madrid): An absolutely majestic display from the veteran. It's high time defenders started winning the big awards, and few have deserved it more than Italy's World Cup winning skipper.

Midfielders

5. Hugo Viana (Valencia): Made light of Edu's absence with a superlative midfield display against Osasuna.

6. Guti (Real Madrid):
Ran the show against a Barcelona side that were left clueless by the end. An international recall on the cards?

7. Maniche (Atletico Madrid): Had Deportivo in all sorts of trouble with his control of the game, only for his team-mates to let him down.

8. Jesus Navas (Sevilla): Yet again, the 21-year-old winger ran through Nastic at will, and had two superb assists for Kanoute to show for his efforts.

Forwards

9. Raul (Real Madrid): Led his side from the front, in every sense of the word, while also working ever so hard to support the defense. Real Madrid's captain courageous is back!

10. Diego Milito (Zaragoza): A match-winning performance to take Zaragoza to within three points of leaders Barcelona, and himself to the top of the Pichichi charts, with seven goals in seven games

11. Frederic Kanoute (Sevilla): Responded to Milito's challenge with a brace to make it seven goals himself, and in the process saw Sevilla back to third place in La Liga.

Honourable Mentions

Emerson, Diarra, Van Nistelrooy and Robinho were all superb as Real Madrid picked up a hugely convincing win in Spain's biggest game. David Villa scored, yet again - an absolute classic to take Valencia back to the top of La Liga.
