Anger drives me on, says Liverpool FC striker Daniel Sturridge
“I was disappointed not to start because the manager would have known I was a bit angry with Chelsea and wanted to prove a point against them,” he rapped.
“It was strange playing against them because I only left three months ago so I kind of knew their weaknesses and what their team was all about.
“I was itching to get on and the team performed well in the second half. We started attacking a lot more; in the first half we were a little bit defensive.
“The game opened up and we showed what we’re all about – it was good.”
Sturridge spent four years at Chelsea, but made just 63 league appearances in that time – only 31 as a starter.
His frustration at a lack of first team opportunities led to his move to Anfield, where the impending suspension for Luis Suarez will now offer plenty more first team chances for a striker who has scored six times in his first 12 appearances for the Reds, despite spending a few matches on the sidelines in recent weeks.
Sturridge (left) added: “I’m happy but it’s my job. I’ll be happy today but tomorrow is a new day.
“I just look forward to the next one now. It’s onwards and upwards from here and I hope to continue to help the team get some results.”
Also hoping to step into the striking breach in the next few weeks will be Fabio Borini who returned to full training yesterday well ahead of schedule.
The Italy forward has been out of action since dislocating his shoulder against Swansea City on February 17 and undergoing surgery.
He was expected to miss the remainder of the season, but took another step towards full fitness when he resumed training with his team-mates yesterday.
