TAWAU: An 18-year old odd job worker, unhappy that his younger sister was courting a fourth-former, took the law into his own hands and beat the boy up on Sunday when he went to meet the girl.
Mid Monday morning the teenager, a Bugis without identification or travel documents, was handed over to police by the villagers of Kg Sentosa, shortly after a report was lodged that the schoolboy, Mohd Ayieruchizamsyah Lambang, 16, was found dead in his room at Kampung Pisang by his mother.
District police chief, Assistant Commissioner Fadil Marsus confirmed the arrest, saying their investigations showed that Ayieruchizamsyah was assaulted by the suspect, 19, at 6pm Sunday at the nearby Taman Gembira housing area.
ACP Fadil said an altercation took place at the crime scene when the suspect saw the victim approach his sister. He was apparently unhappy with the duo’s relationship as the sister had run off on several occasions to be with Ayieruchizamsyah.
On Sunday, the suspect asked where Ayieruchizamsyah wanted to take his sister, but the boy, a student at SMK Kuhara, panicked and tried to run away. He was then struck with a punch to his cheek.
Witnesses said the boy tried to run away but slipped and fell on the wet grass, following which the suspect took a piece of wood and struck him on his nape.
Two witnesses intervened and prevented a further assault, after which the boy ran off home.
The boy’s mother told police she last saw her son at about 7.30pm the night before when he returned home with a bloody nose and bruises on his cheek.
Ayieruchizamsyah, the third child of five siblings, told his mother that he was assaulted by a stranger.
This morning, when the mother went to check on her son, she found his lifeless body slumped on the floor in the room. She then called the police.
“We found bruises in the back of the (victim’s) neck, left lip and forehead,” said ACP Fadil in a statement Monday.
Police have also detained the deceased’s girlfriend for questioning and seized a piece of wood which was used to hit Ayieruchizamsyah.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. |
