Not sure. Probably a step above the mind. Not really the normal feeling or emotion.
Much more like a quite, a state of being I suppose. That's as far as we can get probably..

So the mind can't comprehend God. Feeling as in normal definition still can't cut it...
Something beyond this... The point is, we can allude to God, but we can never explain God sufficiently.

I'm not one to talk aboput salvation, as I'm not in that state yet..

But my guess for what it's worth, you can reach salvation. But not through knowledge... Not through thinking, not through pseudo scientification of religion by religious people, who are actually closet agnostic... They have to find proof of God, so that they can believe in Him.

People who try to know God beyond the ritual and common understanding is there in every religion... So probably they can go at it through religion, but actually more than the common understanding and practising in religion.

The common theme for those kind of people is that, first they isolate and then they come to understanding.. Just like prophets and all the eminent men of past.

There are people who have done all that is required of the "rituals". They whole-heartedly rote learned whatever was dished to them and regurgitate same with a holier than thou air. They failed in the first test of character. That  doesn't seem to guarantee any closer understanding of God. They have not learned so the teacher have not taught! Plain and simple to me.

I am not sure about isolation these days unless we are talking of time for self to think and contemplate and recollect some wisdom..........that might help.
