erikkson blah 2001, financial problem paling teruk 2002 n 2003. parent company to lazio (namanya cirio) was in deep financial problem, so lazio kena la tempiasnya. masa financial problem tu lazio was still doing extremely well.. tp untuk tampung hutang, sorang2 player kena jual. paling tragic sekali nesta la... lepas tu crespo, nedved. meanwhile parent company tu (cirio) was undergoing restructuring exercise, yg melibatkan sekali management (n the owner of lazio) terpaksa ditukar, n share lazio kat stock exchange suspended.
anyway, lazio terselamat drpd bankruptcy dan tak jadi mcm fiorentina... bcz last minute they managed to secure an arrangement to pay fiscal debt to the tax authority for the next 23 years, amounting 140-170 million euros. btw, this is a good case study if u want to learn more about restructuring n other concepts of finance exercises in european scenario. |

LUCA TONI - 11 GAMES 13 GOALS, ANY QUESTIONS?
Luca Toni was born on 26th May 1977 in Pavullo nel Frignano, near northern italian city Modena.
So it was nothing special that Toni made his first professional games for FC Modena. Toni played between 1994 and 1996 in 32 games and scored 7 goals within two seasons.
As a reward for scoring five goals in the second season he was signed by Serie B side Empoli. But maybe it was a step to quick for Toni or it was just a matter of time when Toni would prove the coach having not used him efficiently. Anyhow there was no way passing through against the Empoli striking duo Carmine Esposito (37 games / 15 goals) and Massimilliano Cappellini (37/16) nor for Toni or even for Antonio Di Natale (now at Udinese). And as the club promoted to Serie A Luca Toni had to move to another club.
TREVISO & VICENZA. After a year a Tuscany club Fiorenzuola (26 games, 2 goals) a move to Lodigiani followed. Lodigiani was the club were Luca Toni increased his personal goal record to
a new maximum of 15 goals (in 31 games) within the 1998/99 season.
After this season he joined FC Treviso. Today Treviso is - thanks to a court decision rejecting promotions of Genoa FC and Torino Calcio - a Serie A side but at the time Toni played for the club Treviso played Serie B. Luca Toni confirmed his 15 goals (in 35 games) also in the 1999/2000 season.
Another change should follow when Toni opted again, after just one season, to leave the club heading towards Vicenza. His new club was playing in Serie A. Toni again had no difficulties to
find a place in the line-up of the club when he played 31 games, scoring 9 goals but he was not able preventing his team from relegation. Day 33 meant decisive when Vicenza lost at home against Juventus (0-3) while rivals Hellas Verona beat AC Parma 2-0 away as both teams won
on the last matchday. At Vicenza he played alongside French midfielder Ousmane Dabo (now Lazio) and striking partners Mohamed Kallon (now loaned from Inter Milan to Al-Ittihad) and again Carmine Esposito (like at Brescia 1996/97).

BRESCIA. After this setback Toni had again to find a new club to remain in Italy's topflight.
So Toni opted to join Lombardian club Brescia Calcio. He not just only played there alongside
one of the best Italian players ever, striker Roberto Baggio, in attack he also found a bright start
when scoring 13 goals in 28 games helping Brescia finish 13th in Serie A and preventing relegation. In his second season at Brescia the club finished 10th in Serie A (2002/03) but for
Toni things were not running that good, as he was often replaced in the starting line-up by
Albanian striker Igli Tare, and when he scored only 2 goals in 16 games he opted for another change.
PALERMO. This should become the most sucessful liaison for Toni. He joined the club (in Serie B) ahead of the season 2003/04. But 43 games and 40 goals later Luca Toni set his marks within Stadio Renzo Barbera and helped US Palermo reaching Serie A again after 31 years after
winning the championship within Serie B.
US Palermo was the surprise team of the the last season (2004/05). Just promoted they reached the UEFA Cup by finishing in sixth position in Serie A.
At Palermo Toni performed extraordinary scoring 20 goals during the season. The club
from the capital of Sicily could also count on the services of midfielders Eugenio Corini and
Mario Santana aswell as Mariano Gonzalez, who also performed so well throughout the season.
Toni, personally, finshed fourth in the goalscoring ranking only after Cristiano Lucarell (24 goals
at Livorno), Alberto Gilardino (23 goals at Parma) and Vincenzo Montella (21 goals at Roma).

NATIONAL TEAM. He also became member of the famous Squadra Azzura when he made his debut in August 2004 in a friendly against Iceland. In autumn when Italy beat Belarus (4-1) away
at Minsk Luca Toni found an appropriate stage for his first moment in the sunshine of the national team when scoring a hattrick.
FIORENTINA. The performance shown at Palermo wasn't unseen by Italian top club. Who would
not sign the player with the height of 1.94 metres and physical weight of 89 kg. Having now team-
mates like Danish winger Martin J?gensen, midfielder Stefan Fiore and Bulgarian striking partner Valeri Bojinov ACF Fiorentina can look into a bright future. Because Toni provides them not only advantages in 1:1 situations overpowering opponents thanks to his height and his pace. Not forgetting to mention is that he has really developed to a technically fine striker who's also superb at headers.
Meanwhile US Palermo tried to compensate the loss of Luca Toni with his former Brescia team-mate (2001/02) Andrea Caracciolo (1.94 m / 75 kg). A clear prove both how they are willing to rely on their system and dependency on Toni in the past two seasons. As a successor at Palermo Caracciolo has scored 4 goals in 11 games in this season. Future will show if he ever can come
up to the performances and records of Toni there.
Luca Toni was signed for EUR 10.0 million having already delivered a pay-off with his 13 goals in 11 games. It's surely good to know that this 27-year old striker has signed a four-year contract with the club from Florence, especially with the World Cup coming up next year were his likely to be included within Italy's squad, and he will surely bring much joy to the tifosi of La Viola.
