Juventus Crazy Over Crouch

Juventus have once again been linked with a move for Liverpool抯 unsettled striker Peter Crouch.

The giant target-man has stalled on signing a new contract at Anfield after losing favour with manager Rafael Benitez. The 6 ft 7in hitman is now the Spaniard抯 fifth choice forward behind new signings Fernando Torres, Ryan Babel and Andriy Voronin, plus Dutchman Dirk Kuyt.

The former Southampton man is said to be worried that his lack of playing time may be damaging his international career. Last week England manager opted to select re-born Wigan frontman Emile Heskey ahead of Crouch for the Euro 2008 qualifier against Russia.
The Sunday Express is now claiming that Juventus and Manchester City are both watching the situation with interest and may launch bids during the January transfer window.
The Bianconeri have long been linked with Crouch and coach Claudio Ranieri may see the forward抯 aerial ability as a useful weapon as Juve attempt to make an impact on their return to Serie A.
Crouch, who has a fantastic international scoring record with 12 goals in just 21 appearances, is believed to be valued at around

Daniele De Rossi is enjoying the lead-up to Roma-Juventus, as for the first time his side are the favourites.
The rivalry between these two clubs has always been electrifying and often spilled out off the pitch as well, but after Calciopoli and the Giallorossi抯 100 per cent record so far this season, the tide has turned.

揥e always went into this game as the underdogs. This year our meetings with Juve will be in a sort of balance between our results and their prestigious history,

Roma v Juventus: Preview

Roma v Juventus: Preview
PA

ROME, September 22 (Serie A) - Alessandro Del Piero is hoping for a change in fortune when Juventus travel to Serie A leaders Roma on Sunday.

The Bianconeri veteran struck the woodwork three times during last weekend's 1-0 home defeat to Udinese, a result which saw Juve's winning return to the top flight come to a sudden halt.

The 32-year-old felt the scoreline did not do justice to a solid display from Claudio Ranieri's side.

He said following the game: ``I'm unhappy.

``Considering the chances on goal we created against an excellent Udinese side, we should have won.''

A return to winning ways will not be easy against a Roma team which has looked unstoppable in the early weeks of the new season.

The Giallorossi have a 100% record after three league games and also kicked off the campaign with victory over Internazionale in the Italian Super Cup.

A midweek Champions League victory over Dynamo Kiev will have further boosted the level of confidence at the Stadio Olimpico.

Luciano Spalletti's side saw off the Ukrainian champions 2-0 in the Eternal City thanks to goals from Simone Perrotta and captain Francesco Totti.

``My team has done really well,'' said Spalletti after the Dynamo game.

``We have shown a lot of balance, kept our focus and controlled the game. I can only be pleased.

``This win is important for our next few games, but for this Roma, a victory should be the norm.''

Roma are two points clear of Inter at the summit and will hope to avoid a repeat of the scoreline on Juve's last visit when the Turin side cruised to a 4-1 win with France international David Trezeguet scoring twice.

Trezeguet will again lead the visitors' attack but will come up against a Roma defence which has not conceded this season.

Roma's attack have been equally impressive, scoring seven times in their opening three league games.

``Roma play the best football in Europe alongside Arsenal and Barcelona,'' said Ranieri.

``They are going through a golden moment.''

The former Chelsea and Valencia boss is confident, however, his side can come away with a positive result.

``We have great champions that can resolve any game at any time,'' he added.

``After all, we are Juventus, we cannot find excuses, we must always win.''

The hosts will have all their players available with the exception of injured defender Marco Andreolli.

Juve travel to the Italian capital without midfielder Mauro Camoranesi, who is out for a month through injury, and suspended defender Jonathan Zebina.

Reports in Italy suggest that Juventus are preparing for a January defender hunt after Jorge Andrade sustained a serious injury.

The Bianconeri抯 battling 2-2 draw with Roma was marred by Andrade damaging tendons in his right knee.

There had already been question marks raised over whether the Old Lady had sufficient depth at the back and now they may find themselves putting too much pressure on youngster Domenico Criscito.

揂ndrade has picked up a serious injury and we all wish him the best,

Juventus 4-0 Reggina

TURIN, September 26 (Serie A) - Juventus gave another demonstration that they are Italian title contenders with a second-half demolition of Reggina to set themselves up well for the impending city derby with Torino.

Reggina defended stoutly to keep their goal intact for the first half but Juventus took command after the break.

Nicola Legrottaglie and Hasan Salihamidzic netted in quick succession after the interval to give Claudio Ranieri's men a winning position they defended with little difficulty.

David Trezeguet and Raffaele Palladino then added later goals to emphasise the superiority of a team who are looking top-flight heavyweights once more after serving an enforced one-year absence from Serie A for match-fixing.
