Primera Liga Team Of The Week (Round 13)
After another decisive weekend of action in the Spanish top flight, the Goal.com team had another hard task choosing the best 11 players for the team of the week. But the result is in and below are the lucky stars to have made the starting line-up.
Goalkeeper
Leo Franco (Atl閠ico de Madrid): The Argentinian stopper was outstanding as he assured his team of a much-needed away day victory against Real Betis. He not only saved one penalty, from Edu, and then rebound, from Juanito, but chose the right way to save a second spot-kick from Fernando.
Defenders
Daniel Alves (Sevilla): Despite seeing his side throw away a lead to lose their first game since mid-October, the Brazilian full-back was outstanding once again as he patrolled the flanks. Espanyol were troubled throughout by his running as much as his tackling back.
Roberto Carlos (Real Madrid): :loveespite a poor first half in their game against Athletic Bilbao, Fabio Capello's team bounced back in the second period to win and Roberto Carlos was instrumental in the fight-back. His winning strike was a reminder of his potency in front of goal.
Fabricio Fuentes (Villarreal): After arriving in the summer, the Argentinian-Italian defender looks to have settled well into the Spanish game and his accomplished performance and opening goal in the victory over N鄐tic earns him a place in the side for this week.
Midfielders
Ivan De la Peña (Espanyol): The diminutive midfielder worked his way back into team of the week with an outstanding performance as he led his team to victory over Sevilla. His range of passing and forward movement was the key to los Periquitos' impressive win.
Juan Rom醤 Riquelme (Villarreal): In his first game back after returning to Argentina for the birth of his third child, the Yellow Submarines' playmaker was back to his best. As well as controlling the centre of the pitch he looked dangerous when taking every set piece.
Javi Mart韓ez (Athletic Bilbao): At just 18 years of age, few players would be able to put in the confident performance that the Basque youngster managed in the imposing surroundings of the Santiago Bernab閡. Given this display, it is no surprise Athletic paid ?6 million for him in the summer.
Ra鷏 Garc韆 (Osasuna): After coming on at half-time, he was at the centre of his team's last gasp victory against Real Zaragoza. After heading home the equaliser, Garc韆 showed great vision to play in David L髉ez in injury time which led to the winning goal.
Forwards
Ra鷏 Tamudo (Espanyol): Captaining a team means leading by example and Espanyol could have no greater inspiration than to follow Tamudo. His desire to win and spirit saw his side come from behind after he had equalised against a very strong Sevilla side.
Ronaldo (Real Madrid): :love:The injury-troubled Brazilian striker is included simply as a reward for the fact that he bounced back from yet another morale-sapping knock to make a huge impact on the game. His first goal of the season was superbly executed and proved that he still has it.
Diego Milito (Real Zaragoza): The Argnetinian striker is set to agree a permanent deal with the Arag髇 club and he celebrated the news with an excellent opener against Osasuna. His strength in the air and skill on the floor made him a constant threat. |
