If anyone is interested in undertsanding the shifting US policy from consensus building to unilateral action and projection of power across the globe, please do read a book entitled " America Alone : The Neo-Conservative and The Global Order" by Stefan Halper and Johnathan Clarke. Its published by University of Cambridge Press in 2004.
The book revolves on who the Neo-Cons are and the ideology behind these so called intellectuals, politicians and strategists that had redirected the US policy for political, military and economic domination. The reader will get some good insights on US foreign policy today under the Bush Administration and gain some foresight on its direction and impact.
The language used is formal and academic although the reader may need to refer to the dictionary once a while.

I would recommend the reading of this book by Linda Polman entitled "We Did Nothing" published in 1997 by Penguin Books Ltd. The book tells the horrifying story of the failure of the United Nations throughout the 1990s that escalated into major humanitarian catasthrophies; Haiti, Rwanda, Bosnia and Somalia.
The UN was so weakened by insufficient funds and lacking political commitment that have led to some of the world's most devastating humanitarian disasters.
The book is written in a easy manner for a wide audience. Its a good analysis of the UN's weak structure and its reliance of the superpowers for action.

terry pratchett!!
eh...dah suggest eh..heh
Philosophical book hunters should pick up Marquez's 100 Years of Solitude..or the least, Pratchett's Men at Arms.
Sad stories seekers should read English Patient of course...you can't go wrong with that..
J.M Coetzee's Disgrace would be a nice addition to anyone who wants to know about anti-feminism
any Robert E. Henlein's books would be a great bookshelf fodder.
oh....and not sucking up into anyone here...Wilayah Kutu is one helluva book to have on your bookshelf...no kidding...that book is just plain funny.
Although have to admit, there must be something that is so captivating about Harry Potter that it changed the whole chilldren's book market, still couldn't quite understand what is all the hoopla is about. Maybe because it came out during the Lord Of The Rings craze..a book quite close to my heart.
I think most of the titles above could easily be found anywhere...err..except probably Henlein's. But happy reading anyways! |

a sad book, true story - Without Mercy by Miriam Ali.
Miriam Ali's nightmare began on the day in 1980 when she learnt that her two teenage daughters
had been sold to 'husband' in Yemen by their father, and would not be coming home to Birmingham.
But it was also the turning point. After too many years of submission, when she had been used as little more than
a baby-machine and had suffered two nervous breakdowns, Miriam finally mustered the courage to begin a campaign to
rescue Zana & Nadia from the misery and squalor in which they were forced to live. |

Please Rekomenkan Novel English for me....
Hi semua,
Saya ni peminat cerita2 thriller dan fiction, wat masa ni favourite novelis saya ialah Ramli Awang Murshid, tapi novel dia semua dah baca.. and saya ni kalau baca novel Melayu cepat sangat khatam..
So, saya nak mintak tolong, bleh tak rekomenkan apa2 novel English yang menarik untuk dibaca.. ermm kalau boleh jangan la yang tebal2 sangat, takut lambat nak abis, pasal saya ni baca English merangkak sket.. =)... Tapi kalau storyline dia betul2 interesting, tebal sket tu xpe la.
Dan saya prefer novel yang ada sokongan fakta sekali... Macam novel Ramli Awang Murshid u jugak la... At least dapat tambah pengetahuan am ...
Lagi satu, biasanya saya tengok novel2 English nih mahal2, tau tak kat mana2 tempat area KL/Damansara/Johor yang ada jual novel2 2nd hand, tapi ada kualiti?
Sekian. |

cuba tgk kat thread book log , kalau nak buku 2nd hand pergi Payless.... |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Payless tu apa? Nama kedai ke? Kat mane? |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Payless ni kat Ampang Point ada satu, kat Bukit Bintang dulu pernah ada kat temporary stall-so ikut namanya temporary tu skrg tak tau ada ke tidak. CUba gi survey.
And there is another shop yang buat book-rental. You pay some deposit, then bila u pulangkan buku they will refund u the deposit minus rental-between RM1-RM5 . More economical.
Happy hunting and Selamat Membaca.. |
