PRITI SELLS FOR RS 100M

Famous film actress Priti Jhingiani mortgages herself with a rich industrialist for a sum of Rs 100 million. She does this to save the honor of her husband, she claims! This is a film story, though. We recently witnessed the picturization of this scene at the Filmalaya studio in Mumbai. The scene was enacted for the movie titled 'Sauda', meaning a bargain. Jayaprakash, of the 'Market' and 'Chahat- Ek Nasha' fame, is directing the movie.

Among those present in the scene were Aryan Vaid, the husband of Priti in the movie, and Suman Ranganathan, who acts as broker to get the deal through. We heard the dialogues at the muhurt shot in which Aryan Vaid acts as Priti's husband and Sanjay Kapoor plays as Vijay Oberoi, the industrialist. Oberoi is obsessed with Priti Jhiangiani's beauty and charm and wants to get her at any cost. Suman Ranganathan is there to broker the deal between Priti and Sanjay for a huge sum as Priti's husband is in great need of money.

SHAH RUKH WITH KAJOL

Big banners and Shah Rukh Khan are inalienable; they go together. Any big banner movie without Shah Rukh is unthinkable. Both big banners like Yuvraj Films of Yash Chopra and the other group of Karan Johar sign Shah Rukh first for their movies. Yash has a fine- tuning with SRK. That's why from 'Dar' to 'Veer Zaara' all his movies have SRK in the lead. The same is the case with Karan Johar. All his films from 'Kuchh Kuchh Hota Hai', 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum' and 'Kal Ho Naa Ho' have proved hat tricks with SRK in the lead roles. Now, Karan is coming with his next 'Kaal'.

However, SRK is not in the lead. This is noteworthy. The reason is simple; Kajol is also there. And, Kajol has Ajay Devgan opposite her. We better need not repeat the bitter Ajay -SRK relationship. However, Karan has insisted that Shah Rukh will be there though as a guest artist only. Keeping in view his extraordinary relationship with Karan and the big banner attached to it, Shah Rukh has also agreed to be a guest artist. Incidentally, Karan is not directing this movie otherwise he would have not dreamt of doing his film without his friend Shah Rukh in it.

AISH'S THIRD VICTIM IS VIVEK

The former world beauty and internationally famed actress Aishwarya Rai has hunted several stars, and Vivek Oberoi is her third victim. Yes, the first victim was Salman Khan who proved a hit pair with Aish in their 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam'. But they fell out soon and Salman quarreled with Shah Rukh over Aish during a shoot. Shah Rukh turned angry and replaced Aish with another actress. However, Aish's performance with Shah Rukh in 'Devdas' proved a hit. Thus, Aish thought of improving her equation with SRK, and announced that she would never do a film with Salman.

Since SRK didn't pay much heed to her announcement against Salman, Aish took fancy for Vivek Oberoi. The latter was flattered too, and showered his love towards her. The news in the media about their relationship continued for some time without any contradiction by Aish, presumably she thought that her film 'Kyon Ho Gaya Naa' with Vivek might prove a hit. Since the Aish-Vivek movie flopped, Aish changed her attitude towards him. This has shocked Vivek beyond words, and he has turned a frustrated lover though he has occupied himself now with the relief work for the victims of tsunami, and adopted a village in the affected area of the south.

Priyanka: Still to reach target

Actress Priyanka Chopra divides her shoot in shifts so that she gives her best performance. She is very particular to prove her acting skill besides her movie hitting the box office. She is very excited with her recent world tour with Shah Rukh Khan though she narrowly escaped from the jaws of death in Colombo. She blasted all rumors of her personal relations with any of her male colleague during their shoot. Though she has acted as Arjun Rampal's wife in 'Yakeen' she has had no connection with him, she claims. She has no time for romance, as she is yet to reach her target in the profession with still harder work, she adds.

Bipasha: Enough of sexy image

Bipasha Basu is banking on her forthcoming movie 'No Entry' starring Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor and Fardeen Khan, and being produced by Boney Kapoor. She has been working very hard for this. She is fully aware that she cannot go any further by showing her skin. There is a limit beyond which the sexy image doesn't work. She has, therefore, decided to shed her sexy image and concentrate on her acting. Her earlier movies 'Raj' and 'Jism' brought her laurels by hitting box office. g skill. Besides, she has no time for romance at present, she asserts.

Actor John Abraham confesses that his next love after dusky beauty Bipasha Basu is riding bikes. Whenever he feels bored of shooting he takes to riding a bike or taking her girlfriend to a dinner. Girlfriend? Who else but Bips? Yes, he is not seen acting in movies with Bips these days. Naseeruddin with Big B

Well-known actor Naseeruddin Shah will act with the Big B for the first time in Vidhu Vinod Chopra's 'Yash'. In fact, Vidhu Chopra has himself been waiting for an opportunity to do a film with Amitabh Bachchan for the last 30 years, he says. Amitabh has fulfilled Vidhu's wish. Nasseruddin is happy too with working with the super star. Hopefully, the movie would prove a hit with such top stars.

SRK's next is 'Ghost Ka Dost'

Shah Rukh Khan has signed Amol Palekar to direct his next movie most likely titled 'Ghost Ka Dost'. Who will don the role of the ghost is anybody's guess. Yes, Shah Rukh might himself play this coveted role despite being a producer. Similarly, the industry circles wonder who would play opposite him though Palekar would like to repeat his last film's heroine Sonali Bendre. Shah Rukh has not commented on the allegation that the story of his forthcoming movie is based on 'Duvidha', Vijay Detha's novel. However, this needs to be clarified before launching the shoot of the movie.

South African model Ilene Hamman who is acting in her Hindi debut 'Rog' of Pooja Bhatt had been a fan of Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai even before entering Bollywood. She says she has been watching Hindi movies with her native friends in Cape Town, and has always felt fun. She doesn't know about her second movie though Mumbai is her second home now. She would think about it after meeting her family and friends back at home.

RAVEENA TANDON RELAXING AS PRODUCER

The mast mast and jhatak-matak heroine of Bollywood has now decided to relax a bit after a hectic shooting career of decades. She has, therefore, turned a producer. She says she has time and the resources to do filmmaking. "Besides, Suneil Shetty and I, along with two other friends, have joined hands to form a company called Relife Entertainment. Suneil's Popcorn Entertainment is a part of it."

She is not nervous while turning a producer since " I come from a film family, my father and brother are producers. There has always been a desire. But earlier, I had no time to even think because I was running from studio to studio." However, she doesn't want to produce the type of films she has acted in the past or repeat dialogues she spoke in her earlier movies. "I want to make very different movies."

She says that the time has come for her generation to make way for the new generation. " I have made a conscious effort to change tracks. Because I am tired of doing the same old thing again and again." She is apologetic about certain films that the people are going to watch soon. " I felt stupid doing certain scenes and saying certain dialogue. I did those films because I had committed to them a long time ago. Though I enjoyed doing such films when I was 17." She doesn't want to do it now as even the audience has grown up. They look forward to new stories.

Raveena confesses that she was nervous while acting in 'Satta' "Honestly, I was terribly nervous doing the movie because I knew everyone's expectations would be sky high after 'Chandni Bar' in which Madhur Bhandarkar had worked with Tabu." Moreover, her image of a mast mast girl stood in her way. People didn't realise that she could do such 'realistic' roles too.

Raveena's concept of a role of a woman is very different from those of others. "To play a woman who's self-righteous, smooth and cutting without becoming evil and manipulative, is very difficult. Because you cannot bump off anyone self-righteously."

Tandon has regrets too in her career graph though every moment in her life in industry, she says, has been worth it. "The biggest regret is that I shouldn't have quit at my peak. I had hits like 'Mohra', 'Dilwale', 'Andaz Apna Apna', 'Laadla', things were happening for me?and I quit. She thinks that had she not quit at that time, things would have been very different for her. " Because, no matter how hard I tried after I came back, I couldn't regain my old position." Still she is contented as she feels things did not turn worse.

She is firm on her decision to remain in the film industry, which she thinks, was her destiny. Each time she tried to quit the industry, somehow or the other, she had been " pulled right back in". These incidents do make her theatrical at times. However, she doesn't lose heart but falls back on singing a song from 'Guide'. She repeats -Kaanto se kheench ke yeh aanchal, tod ke bandhan bandhi paayal. "I feel those lyrics were written for me. My friends feel I was born for drama!"

RANI WAITING TO MAKE HER MARK

It is difficult to decide if bad choice or bad luck has hobbled Rani Mukherjee's career. With her good looks and reasonable ease in front of the camera, she should have made headway by now. But today, she clings on to the straws of the over-delayed Milan Luthria's 'Chori Chori' and Shah Rukh Khan's home production 'Chalte Chalte', hoping fervently that she finds favor with Indian audiences.

How satisfied are you at this point in your career?

Why should I be unsatisfied even to the smallest extent? I have received many offers, but I am very selective. I have not liked most of the scripts. I do not want to work for just the heck of it. I do not want to do fluff. I want meat only.

Is it prudent not to worry about the practical aspect of your career?

I am satisfying the practical aspect of my career by doing shows. In this manner, I even save lots of time. Movies take a long time to make. I use the saved time with my friends and family.

Are you satisfied by the box-office collections of 'Saathiya'?

Yes. Of course, I would have loved if it had done a lot better than it did. As a normal human being, I always expect more than what I get.

Don't you think that you need a change in your image?

I do not know why some people have a feeling that I need an image change. An image is simply created by the media. Audience does not come to a theater, keeping a heroine's image in mind.

Would you do a 'Jism'?

I do not want to answer this question.

How has the media been to you?

There are two types of media, one constructive media, two gossip media. The constructive media has greatly helped me in improving my acting abilities. The gossip media has written a lot about me. However, I do not care about it. The gossip media is not supposed to be taken seriously.

Are you indirectly denying all that is written about your relations with Govinda, Karan Johar, Adnan Sami and now Vivek Oberoi?

I neither deny nor accept it. Talk to me about my work. I function that way. People here forget that we too come from families and that we are someone's daughters and sisters and that we have our personal lives, which we don't like to talk about or have it discussed. Nasty reviews and untrue gossip easily bothered me, but over the years I have wisened up and just ignore them.

Did you have a sympathetic role unlike Kareena in 'Mujhse Dosti Karoge'?

Rubbish. Both- Kareena and I had equally strong roles. Again the media is exaggerating this factor for some time.

Do you agree in principle that most women roles are similar?

I agree in principle but then, heroes and heroines have to be positive characters in movies. They can never be grey. I also believe that there are a few good female parts going around. Also, it is important to bring your own personality to even a cliched role so that you can make it different.

Are you uncomfortable because you have often been termed as rude?

I try never to be rude to people who want photographs and autographs, but I don't like to be followed and stared at constantly.

Did you idolise any star in your youth?

I never idolised any particular star though I had quite few favorites. I just can't figure out the undying affection that some of my fans insist they feel for me.

Do you avoid going out over the weekends?

Most of the time I'm so tired, there's no energy or inclination to party or socialise. So what I do is invite my close friends home for meals. We all catch up on a Sunday afternoon when we'll have some yummy fish curry for lunch.

What do you enjoy the most on idle weekends?

I enjoy catching up on my sleep. I could stay in bed for the whole day but my mother won't let me. Sometimes she'll head for the health club for an exercise session, but mostly I'm content with all those toe-touching routines every morning.

The much-talked about actor Shahid Kapoor has finally purchased a house in Mumbai soon after his last film 'Dil Maange More' got a good opening in all the major centers. Katrina turns Akshay her Diwana

Yes, Katrina has Salman Khan as her diwana in the real life. However, Katrina may soon turn women killer Akshay Kumar her diwana in Raj kawar's forthcoming movie 'Hum Ko Diwana Kar Gayee' in reel life. The movie is being made under the banner of Super Cassette Industries (T-Series). When the media asked Raj Kawar if he had obtained consent of Salman Khan, he quipped, "Sallu is a nice man." However, it is reported that Raj Kawar is looking for another heroine for the movie; presumably he is afraid that Salman may not like Katrina to play opposite Akshay Kumar.

Priti Jhangiani has turned bold

Priti Jhangiani who has announced after the success of Mohabatein' that she would not succumb to any pressure for bold scenes or body exposure, has now joined the stream of her contemporary bold girls like Mallika Sherawat, Meghna Naidu, Payal Rohatagi and Bipasha Basu. She would be seen now enected bold scenes in her forthcoming movie 'Chahhat - Ek Nasha'. In fact, Priti's character is similar to singer Britney Sprears. Well, maybe Priti had no choice but to imitate Britney. Moreover, Priti has realized that all he movie after 'Mohabatein' fallen flat. So, she chose to resigned her earlier decision.

Kareena too proud of her youth

Kareena Kapoor is well known for making enemies in the film industry. The sole exception is Shahid Kapoor though. We come across many stories taking round in industry circles about Kareena Kapoor criticizing her colleagues. She doesn't spare even an eminent person like Karan Johar. Recently, Kareen accused Karan Johar for signing Preity Zinta and Rani Mukherjee in his movies because "Karan needs matured women and not young ones like her." She continued, "Karan has no films for young girls like me aged 24." Is Kareena too proud of her youth!
