Liverpool On High Alert As Potential Suarez Strike Partner Turns Down New Deal

Liverpool believed to be keen to bring Poland international striker to Anfield.

Liverpool are thought to be readying a bid for Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski after the 23 year-old turned down the offer of a new contract to stay at Signal Iduna Park.

Lewandowski played a major role in making Borussia Dortmund Bundesliga champions this season, but according to his agent, the revised terms put to the Poland international forward were not up to the amount expected.

“Whether Robert will play in black and yellow again next season is still open for debate,” said Lewandowski’s representative Cezary Kucharski to German newspaper Westfälische Rundschau, as reported by TZ Online.

Given Lewandowski’s fine form this season, Borussia Dortmund were prepared to offer Lewandowski improved terms despite a contract running out as far away as summer 2014.

However, Kucharski claims they were not fair given comparable rates with other first team players.

“We are disappointed with the offer. A player should belong to the class of Robert the best paid soccer players with Dortmund, “said Kucharski.

Given that Lewandowski has scored 20 goals and provided 8 assists in just 33 Bundesliga appearances this season, he probably has a point.

Liverpool are certainly in the market for a finisher this summer, as their remarkable propensity to hit the woodwork has cost them many a point this season.

Lewandowski’s fine record of putting away chances – not to mention his quality link play – is believed to have led Anfield officials to conclude that he would be a great strike partner for Luis Suarez up front for Liverpool.

Given the Poland international could prove one of the stars of UEFA Euro 2012 in his home country, a deal would be best wrapped up sooner rather than later, as his price could soar.

Norwich vs Liverpool Player Ratings

A brilliant hat-trick by Luis Suarez forced the Norwich fans in attendance to witness a hapless performance as Liverpool prepared for their FA Cup final in the best of fashion.
The first two goals came in the first half and were the result of some poor defending by Norwich. When under pressure, they gave up the ball too easily to Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard allowing the striker to get inside the box and beat the goalkeeper with first-time shots.

But Liverpool have crumbled despite a two-goal lead and Norwich were thus hopeful of at least nicking a goal back. They never really came up with anything serious to bother Jose Manuel Reina with and Suarez made them pay with a wonderful long-distance shot.

It was Beckham-esque in its execution and led to a resounding pat on the back by his manager and ensures that Liverpool can prepare for their FA Cup final with Chelsea confident in the talents of their leading men.

Liverpool
Jose Manuel Reina - 7.5

He didn't have to do much and had to make one serious save in the entire game. But he commanded his box, unlike the opposing keeper, and claimed crosses and high balls with authority. Such confidence was lacking in the Spanish keeper's performances earlier in the season.

Glen Johnson - 7.5
It was a decent performance by the right-back, especially defensively as he made several crucial blocks and put a foot in to make sure shots were off target.

Jamie Carragher - 8
The long-serving defender was really good in the game as nothing much seemed to be able to get past him. He even bravely put his body on the line to prevent a shot from going anywhere near Reina. It must have stung but he didn't seem perturbed by it in the least!

Daniel Agger - 7.5
It was a tidy performance by the Danish defender. He was fortunate that he didn't lose the ball in the 62nd minute when his foot came unstuck when under pressure by Vaughan. He doesn't seem comfortable in rain-soaked fields.

Jose Enrique - 8
Unlike Johnson, he went forward and combined well with Bellamy. His cross to Shelvey should really have been buried into the net for a goal in the second half.

Stewart Downing - 7.5
It was a much improved performance by the former Aston Villa midfielder. He got into dangerous areas, nutmegged players and tried in vain to get his first Premier League goal for Liverpool.

Jonjo Shelvey - 7
The youngster could have gotten a goal for himself a number of times but he just didn't have the composure to make a decisive contribution. He hit the bar once and missed from close range.

Steven Gerrard (off 86') - 8
He carried out some brilliant passes and it was his pressurising that allowed Suarez to get his second goal as he ensured that a defender made a mistake and gave the ball up close to the box.

Jordan Henderson - 7.5
He showed industry and vision in a central midfield berth even if his long-range passes weren't always accurate. It was a good showing that gives some hope that he could fare well as a long-term replacement for Gerrard.

Craig Bellamy - 7
The Welshman was a bit dangerous with some hasty challenges that made it appear as if he didn't intend to win the ball fairly but it was nothing deliberate. He did some active running and had a couple of shots and so it was a typically spirited performance.

Luis Suarez (off 86') - 9

It was less a case of the Uruguayan providing a stellar performance in the first half and more due to Norwich's defensive failings that he managed to score a brace. But his second goal still required some brilliance as he found the narrowest of angles to score within.
And his third goal was a beauty! He saw that Ruddy was well off his line and he shot from near the halfway point and it just floated slowly and impressively to land in the back of the net!
Definitely a contender for goal of the season.

Subs
Dirk Kuyt (on 86') - N/A
Sebastian Coates (on 86') - N/A

Liverpool Ready to Make Offer for Japanese Midfielder Who Wants Borussia Dortmund Exit

Anfield side set to launch bid for Shinji Kagawa.

Kenny Dalglish is showing an interest in Borussia Dortmund midfielder Shinji Kagawa and will reportedly look to make a bid for the talented Japanese international this summer. The 23 year old has enjoyed two incredibly successful seasons at the Bundesliga side but has told his club’s owners that he wants to leave for pastures new.

Kagawa has been an instant hit in Germany ever since he arrived from Cerezo Osaka and has helped Jurgen Klopp’s side clinch back to back domestic titles in the process. During his two seasons at the Westfalenstadion the Kobe born attacker has notched up 28 goals and 12 assists in 68 games in all competitions a very healthy return for a player who cost Dortmund just £300k.

Kagawa has been the subject of interest from a number of clubs and having seen team-mate Nuri Sahin move to Real Madrid the Japanese international appears keen to Borussia Dortmund side and interest from the Anfield side could well prove tempting.

Liverpool could well do with more creative talent to help boost their firepower having struggled for goals for much of this season. Dalglish has spent a great deal on new additions over the past 18 months but the Merseyside club’s American owners are ready to hand the Scot significant funds when the transfer window re-opens.

Kenny Dalglish has seen a number of his recent acquisitions struggle for form with the likes of Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam, Stewart Downing and Andy Carroll all struggle for form, leaving the Liverpool boss having little option other than to look to strengthen his options.

Liverpool boss Dalglish made personal check on Toulouse stars Sissoko, Capoue

Sissoko

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish was in France on Friday to see Toulouse lose at home to Montpellier.

Also spotted in the stands was Arsenal scout Gilles Grimandi.

Toulouse midfielders Moussa Sissoko and Etienne Capoue, along with Montpellier striker Olivier Giroud, have all been linked with Premier League clubs this season.

Sissoko revealed recently: "I had contacts with English clubs, notably Liverpool, but I preferred to commit myself to Toulouse, the club where I have been educated, to get more experience."

Reds enter chase for AZ midfielder

Rasmus Elm is the man Liverpool believe can deliver the goal power to boost their title chances next season.

The 24-year-old AZ Alkmaar midfielder, who will represent Sweden at Euro 2012, is in the form of his life. He has scored 12 league goals this season and been watched by all the top Premier League, Italian and Spanish clubs.

Before being ditched as Liverpool's director of football a fortnight ago, Damien Commoli had compiled an extensive dossier on Elm.

Kenny Dalglish is well aware of Elm's -power-packed ability and will finalise his summer recruitment drive with his club's owners, the Fenway Group, at the end of the season.

The good news about Elm, who resembles Anfield skipper Steven -Gerrard with his shooting power at set-pieces, is that, with only one year to go on his current contract, he can be lured away for around £8m.
