NO DEMAND FOR SHAH RUKH IN LALOO'S LAND

Shah Rukh Khan's movies do better business than those of others in India. This is evident from the statistics collected from various centers. However, there is an exception. In Bihar's capital Patna, where Laloo Prasad Yadav rules through his wife chief minister Rabri Devi, Shah Rukh's movies do not sell well. 'Kal Ho Naa Ho' and ' Main Hoon Naa' did roaring business all over the country, but not so in Patna. SRK doesn't know the reason. This is a serious matter for the exhibitors as well as the distributors. Believe it or not, but it's a fact.

The recent movie starring 'Veer-Zaara' which sold from 60 to 80 prints of the movie elsewhere, Patna had few, and much less a number than its contemporary 'Aitraaz'. The latter fared better than 'Veer Zaara' unlike in other parts of the country. The industry is puzzled too. Analysts have found that the Laloo's city welcomes bold and sexy films more tha Shah Rukh's. The examples are many. Even C class movies have done better than SRK's in Bihar. Bipasha Basdu starrer 'Murder', Mallika Sherawat's 'Kis Kis Ki Kismat' and Neha Dhupa's 'Juhi' proved hits in Bihar though they did not succeed as much in other parts of the country. So, it shows that SRK is less in demand in Laloo's land than elsewhere for whatever reason!

AMRITA RAO: SWIMMING SUIT, NAA BABA NAA

Amrita Rao is not ready to wear a swimming suit during her shoot in a movie. She says she is not bothered if her movies prove hits at the box office or not. However, she is very keen on winning the hearts of the audience through her performance. " I have joined the film industry to prove myself as a good performer. So I concentrate on the quality of films. I am averse to doing films where an actress smiles, sings or dances just to look sexy." Amrita Rao won the hearts of her audience in her 'Ishq Vishq' opposite Shahid Kapoor.

Her next 'Deewar' with Amitabh Bachchan didn't fare as well though but her role in 'Masti' and 'Main Hoon Naa' was widely acclaimed. Even her brief role in 'Saathiya' charmed the movie watchers. When asked about actresses wearing scanty clothes to expose their skin, Amrita Rao laughed and said, " I do not consider them wrong if they do it within a limit. She added, " However, it is beyond me. I cannot do a bold scene in a swimming suit. Even if I try I shall badly fail and prove a flop on the screen itself." Replying to another query if she would never do such bold scenes, she admitted, "Not at present. Maybe some time later when I turn bold and feel confident of doing so."

'Stop' in Dia Mirza's career?

Dia Mirza who started her filmi career with a bang in Vasu Bhagnani's 'Rahna Hai Tere Dil Main' opposite south super star Madhvan followed it up with 'Deewanapan', 'Tumko Naa Bhool Payenge' 'Dum', 'Pran Jaye Par Shaan Naa Jaye' and 'Stop' etc. Despite her nine movies, she has not been able to climb up to stardom so far. Besides, she even adjusted herself to the new trend and enacted bold and sexy scenes in 'Tumsa Nahin Dekha' opposite Imraan Hashmi, but in vain. It looks that her film 'Stop' has put a stop to her filmi career too. Why should she otherwise accept to play a second fiddle in 'Stop'? Poor Dia!

SRK,Karan exchange numbers!

Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar are good friends. Yes, but no body knew that they had such a deep understanding with each other. You will be surprised to know that only recently both of them exchanged their mobile telephones. To everyone's amazement, the callers went on phoning " wrong" numbers. Whenever a caller rang up for Shah Rukh, he found Karan on the line and vice versa. Later on, the caller realized that though he rang the right number, the fault lay on the side of the receiving party. One could guess what would have happened if SRK's wife Gauri or his girlfriend had called him!

Yukta's love for bhajans

The former Miss World Yukta Mukhi was recently caught at an official launch of an eatery in New Delhi. She disclosed that at present she is more occupied in training in classical Indian music and dance than in the commercial cinema. When asked if she proposed to cut a video album, she quipped 'no'. In fact, she added that she might never cut an album. However she would like to perform bhajans some time.

Priyanka in a mess

Priyanka Chopra's reported affairs with actors have cost her a lot. According to latest reports her telephone bill for a month has been for Rs three lakh. When analyzed the bill shows that the maximum numbers of calls have been made either to actor Akshay Kumar or to Harman Baweja, son of director Harry Baweja. Akshay's wife Twinkle got wild and asked Akshay to distance himself from her. Similarly, Harry also advised his son to keep away from Priyanka in the wake of his films coming close to release. We wish Priyanka had not been on two boats at one time!

AISH TO ACT IN BHOPAL TRAGEDY FILM

Zachary Coffin now attending IIFI 2004 (India International Film Festival) in Goa has announced that he would soon commence work on making a film on the Bhopal gas tragedy. Interestingly, Aishwarya Rai has agreed to play the lead role and also as executive producer, he added. Aish will play Jasmine Singh, an Indian American born in Bhopal and grown up in Los Angeles. According to the movie's story, Jasmine was a child when the gas tragedy took place in Bhopal, killing thousands of people and maiming hundreds of thousands its victims for their lifetime.

Unfortunately, the US based corporate Union Carbide didn't take care of its victims for years. The tragedy day is observed in India every year in memory of the victims. Jasmine comes to Bhopal to find out about her father who happened to be the plant manager of Union Carbide. When asked about its prospects in the US, Zachary said that the Bhopal tragedy is relevant in the US too as such tragedies did occur there. He gave the example of Enron, and blamed the corporate sector and the globalization for such tragedies.

Aamir & Aish together?

The Aamir - Aishwarya pair will be soon seen in a Hindi movie. Aamir and Aishwarya met each other at a bungalow of a Samajwadi leader recently. After the meeting Aamir Khan was happy to announce that his meeting with Aish was very good, and added that he would be doing a movie with Aish. Since, the initiative to bring Aish and Aamir together was taken by a Samajwadi leader, the movie would be financed by the Sahara group, which is very close to this political leader. It is significant to note that Aish had quit producer Bobby Bedi's Aamir Khan starrer 'The Rising' following the entry of Amisha Patel in it. Moreover, the Sahara group had withdrawn its commitment to finance it because of its proximity with Aishwarya Rai who is a Vice President in the group. How can Sahara support or patronize someone who disrespects Aish?

Suniel not to act in his films

Actor Suniel Shetty who has lately entered into the production of movies has had second thoughts. After some of his home productions flopped at the box office, he decided not to act in any movie made under his banner. He says that if an actor doesn't perform in his movie then he can easily and successfully mediate among actors and the directors and the producers in case there arose any dispute.

Bips going Pakistan?

Most sexy bombshell of Hindi movies Bipasha Basu would soon be traveling to Pakistan for acting in 'Khulay Asman ke Neeche'. The movie's director is Javed Sheikh. He wanted to rope in Kareena Kapoor, but she did not accept the offer. Javed has now offered it to Bips. In case, it doesn't materialize, Priyanka Chopra would be his next choice. The film centers on the social theme of childhood engagements.

Kamal shoots 'Mumbai Express' with Manisha

South India's actor Kamal Hassan has already commenced shooting of his latest movie 'Mumbai Express' in Chennai last month. This is a combination of emotion and comedy in his earlier movies like 'Appu Raja', 'Pushpak' 'Chachi 420'. As reported earlier, Kamal had finally zeroed on Nepalese girl Manish Koirala opposite himself after a three-month thorough search for a lead girl ranging from Tabu to Bipasha Basu. Kamal plays a police constable in the movie. Manisha says she accepted Kamal's offer without wasting a minute as she considers him as god. This is to recall that Manisha had already acted with Kamal Hassan in a Tamil movie 'Alabandan'. A Hindi version of the Tamil film was also made on popular demand. She also acted in Maniratnam's 'Mumbai'. Does this show Manisha's love for Mumbai? The movie is scheduled to release next April.

'Aitraaz girl's aitraaz

Former beauty queen - turned - actress Priyanka Chopra, who has shot bold scenes in her recent release 'Aitraaz', has amazingly found an aitraz (objection) in the television showing such like scenes. When asked about her aitraaz to what she has herself enacted in her movie, she revealed that her younger brother is addicted to TV, and therefore she wouldn't want television to show body exposure on the screen. Naturally, she doesn't mind discriminating against the small screen! She pleads that children have easy access to the small screen.

Tabu's preference for BMW

'Chandni Bar' actress Tabu is very choosy. She buys beautiful things only, and she goes by her liking and dislikes. She doesn't follow others. She says she cares little for other's choice. " I have my own way of life". Even in regard to her choice of car, she would prefer BMW to Mercedez Benz though she likes the latter too. However, she is waiting for Audi to come to India. She knows it would be very costly, and she would not be able to afford it immediately as she has invested a lot of her money in buying and furnishing house in Hyderabad in south India.

Pooja's two new ventures

Actor-cum-producer Pooja Bhatt says that she has two scripts in mind, and is asking Dipak Tajori to direct one of them. This movie will involve three women and one-man characters. Her father Mahesh Bhatt along with Nilesh Misra is writing the script. The other movie will be musical, according to her. She adds that her movies would not be mega budget ones, and therefore she refuted rumors of offering any role to Aamir Khan in her projects, as she could not afford the high fees charged by him!

AJAY BANKS ON 'RAINCOAT'

Actor Ajay Devgan says that there is no quarrel between him and Shah Rukh Khan as reported in the media. If it were so he would not have worked in 'Kaal' produced by the house of Shah Rukh. Moreover, he added that SRK has been visiting his family on auspicious occasions. Ajay was talking to the media about his fond memories of Rituparno Ghosh's 'Raincoat'. He amused all that present on the occasion by disclosing that he had neither used a raincoat in his life nor did he possess one at home. He quipped that he loved the rain so much that he would rather like to get wet than feel the need for a raincoat. Beware, he lives in Mumbai, where one could face heavy rains throughout the year, as there is no winter like the one in the North India, where one has to use raincoat both in winter and in monsoon seasons. Regarding the background of 'Raincoat' Ajay said that it centered on intimate accounts of lovers on a rainy day. He was happy with his director Ghosh, who completed the whole movie at a stretch in Kolkata during less than a month. This was indeed amazing!

Ajay is looking forward to 'Raincoat's screening as he has the biggest role in this movie as compared to some of his recent movies like 'Khakee', 'Masti' and 'Yuva', where his role was too brief. He is happy with his costars too, including Aishwarya Rai. He has all praise for her performance, and expects the same from the audience.

Great demand for Anil in Dubai

Actor Anil Kapoor's latest 'Musafir' recently released has attracted a huge demand abroad, especially in Dubai. In fact, Anil left no stone unturned to make this movie popular. When he was planning to visit Dubai in this connection, his friends had already organized a festival to exhibit his movies. The film fans were crazy about two of his movies. The first was 'Mr India' produced by Boney Kapoor and the other one being Subhash Ghai's musical hit 'Taal'. Anil agreed with his fans that he too likes these two films most. During his Dubai tour, he obtained a promise from his fans there that they would watch his latest 'Musafir' too.

Sanju imports car for Afghani girlfriend

The tinsel town is flooded with cases of divorces and separations among Indian actors. Beginning from Kamal Hassan followed by Aamir Khan and Saif Ali Khan, the separation scenario has continued engulfing Sanjay Dutt. This is to recall that Sanju had started calling Riya Pillay as his wife after the death of his first wife Richa. Since Riya Pillay has been allegedly flirting with a famous player, Sanju didn't remain behind, and is often seen these days at the film sets with an Afghani girl named Nadia Durrani. Interestingly, Sanju has imported a car worth six million Indian rupees apart from paying a huge import duty, for her girlfriend. Now, Sanju has been taking Nadia around Mumbai's posh areas in his new car after rescheduling his shoots.

Kareena proud over 'Hulchul'

Kareena Kapoor is very excited with the positive response to her latest ' Hulchul' opposite Akshye Khanna. She is proud of her performance in this movie. Moreover, she is getting ready to act in 'Bewafa' and repeat the role played by her elder sister Karisma in 'Raja Hindustani'.

Shabana plays Big B's wife in Rituparno's next

Bengali director Rituparno Ghosh is very excited that he has successfully signed Amitabh Bachchan for his next untitled movie opposite Shabana Azmi. Interestingly, this time Shabana will act as Big B's wife like Hema Malani played his wife in 'Baghbaan'. Hopefully, this movie would hit the box office like 'Baghbaan'. The movie is based on the father and son relationship. Rituparno Ghosh is repeating Aishwarya Rai in this movie after their first 'Choker Bali'. Amitabh says he has agreed to act in Ghosh's movie though he has never watched any of Ghosh's films.
