Tim Borowski Rejoins Werder Bremen From Bayern Munich
The German international returns north after 12 months in Munich...

Tim Borowski has returned to Werder Bremen after only one season at Bayern Munich. The 29-year-old has signed a three year deal with the UEFA Cup finalists, with an option for a fourth year at the club.

Borowski moved to the Allianz Arena last summer when Juergen Klinsmann was in charge. However, the German international was deemed surplus to requirements at FC Hollywood under the new trainer, Louis van Gaal.

Borowski is delighted to rejoin the team he left after a season on the periphary at Bayern. He told the German press, "I had a curious year at Bayern but would not want to miss out on this great experience.

Werder's general manager, Klaus Allofs, is satisfied to have recruited the midfielder, who will add experience to a youthful side. He explained to the club's official website, "We are signing in Tim an experienced player, who will fit excellently into our young team."

"We know what we get with him, he has shown that over many years with Werder and we have found a solution which is satisfactory for both sides and Tim himself."

The coach, Thomas Schaff, also welcomed him back, saying, "We are pleased that this transfer has gone through.

"We have already been able to celebrate some successes with 'Boro'. He knows the set-up at Bremen and I think that he is looking forward to joining us."

Bayern Munich Spoil Lukas Podolski Party After Friendly Win
Bayern Munich spoiled the homecoming of Lukas Podolski at the Rhein-Energie Stadion with a 2-0 win over Koeln…

FC Koeln 0-2 Bayern Munich

The match inside the Rhein-Energie Stadion started in anything but a friendly manner with Pierre Wome chopping down Mario Gomez wide on the right after just two minutes while Bayern captain Mark van Bommel saw a yellow card for a poor, late challenge on Adil Chihi.

Thomas Mueller, who scored a hat trick in Bayern’s previous friendly against Stuttgarter Kickers, did well on nine minutes to pick out Mario Gomez in the penalty area, but the German international striker couldn’t fend of the attention of Pedro Geromel and the danger was cleared.

There was a standing ovation on 13 minutes as Koeln veteran Matthias Scherz was substituted after being allowed one final bow in front of the Koeln faithful.

The first real chance of the evening fell to the visitors soon after Danijel Pranjic twice forced keeper Faryd Mondragon into good saves – one with a shot and one with a follow-up header.

If it was meant to be the Lukas Podolski show, then Bayern hadn’t read the script when they scored the opening goal on 19 minutes. Hamit Altintop did well to win the ball in midfield before feeding Miroslav Klose. The striker took the ball forward before unselfishly laying the ball off to Mario Gomez, who finished well past Mondragon to make it 1-0.

Although further chances were thin on the ground, Bayern controlled the game and the Bavarian defence were hardly bothered with Lukas Podolski having a very quiet match up against his former team-mates.

Koeln came out unchanged for the second-half with new trainer Zvonomir Soldo looking to get more out of the players who played the first 45 minutes. Louis van Gaal however made eight changes to the Bayern line-up.

Lukas Podolski  had his first chance of the game on 54 minutes after Sebastian Freis played him in, but the Koeln forward couldn’t take advantage and the chance went begging.

The numerous changes to the Bayern team didn’t seem to interrupt their play and they continued to control the tempo of the game and enjoy passing the ball around at will.

Van Gaal sent on Bastian Schweinsteiger with 20 minutes left and the decision paid instant dividends when the German international midfielder headed home from a corner to double Bayern’s lead on 73 minutes.

Bayern seemed to take their foot off the gas into the closing stages of the match possibly with an eye on their forthcoming friendlies and the Audi Cup. Trainer van Gaal however will be pleased with what he saw tonight from his charges.

Goals

0-1  Gomez (19)

FC Koeln: Mondragon - Wome, Brecko, Mohamad, Geromel - Chihi, Boateng, Sanou (Ehret 82), Petit (Matip 79) - Podolski – Scherz (Freis 13)

Bayern Munich Star Luca Toni Relegated To Reserves

The Italian hitman could be on his way out of Germany...
22 Jul 2009 18:11:11

The future of Italian international Luca Toni at German giants Bayern Munich is seriously in doubt after the attacker was demoted to the Bundesliga side's reserve team.

Toni has only just returned to training action after his Confederations Cup action with Italy, and head coach Louis van Gaal was far from happy with the striker's fitness. Therefore, Van Gaal opted to sent Toni to the reserves.

The striker appeared to be on his way out of the Allianz Arena after the Bavarians signed Mario Gomez from Stuttgart for

Germany beats Azerbaijan 2-0 in World Cup qualifier

BAKU, Azerbaijan (AP) - Bastian Schweinsteiger and Miroslav Klose scored a goal in each half Wednesday to help Germany beat a spirited Azerbaijan 2-0 in a World Cup qualifier and take a four-point lead in Group C.

Germany only has one match left to play, but second-place Russia could still deny the Germans an automatic place in next year's finals in South Africa because it has a game in hand.

Schweinsteiger's goal came in the 12th minute after the Bayern Munich midfielder cut in from the right and fired a left-foot shot from the edge of the area that ricocheted off a defender into the top left corner of the goal. Azerbaijan goalkeeper Farhad Valiyev got a glove to the ball but it wasn't enough.

Klose doubled the lead in the 54th by heading home a rebound, after Mario Gomez skillfully beat a defender and struck the crossbar with a left-foot shot on the turn.

Schweinsteiger signaled Germany's intent with an early right-footed shot from 30 meters that flew over the crossbar. Gomez then glanced a header wide from an accurate cross by Philipp Lahm in the 10th minute.

But Azerbaijan's first chance followed moments later, but Elvin Mammadov could only float his shot into goalkeeper Robert Enke's hands from the edge of the penalty area.

Germany midfielder Piotr Trochowski headed wide in the 27th from a Ballack cross, while Gomez headed past the opposite post soon after.

Klose missed an easy opportunity to double the Germans' lead just before halftime. His header from just four meters (yards) beat the goalkeeper but bounced over the crossbar.

The Germans were visibly a class above their opponents, but Azerbaijan managed to contain their attacking threat.

After the break, Germany captain Michael Ballack struck a left-footed shot from the edge of the area that Valiyev spilled, but the defense was able to clear the ball.

Azerbaijan midfielder Vagif Javadov curled a shot high and wide from inside the German penalty box in the 65th after outwitting two defenders on the touchline.

In the 74th, Klose missed another chance by glancing a header wide from just a few meters out.

Germany substitute Cacau came on for Klose and managed two close shots in the dying minutes.

Germany can secure qualification with a win against Azerbaijan on Sept. 9.

Real Madrid To Include Wesley Sneijder & Arjen Robben In Franck Ribery Deal - Report

The Merengues are reportedly preparing a mega player-plus-cash deal for the Frenchman...
13 Aug 2009 17:16:33

Real Madrid are considering offering cash plus the services of Wesley Sneijder and Arjen Robben to Bayern Munich in order to land superstar Franck Ribery, according to a report in Marca.

The France international has been the subject of a prolonged transfer saga and his future at the Allianz Arena appears to be anything but decided.

Real Madrid have allegedly not given up on signing Ribery and are preparing to include two of their Dutch players in order to make the deal happen.

Both Sneijder and Robben are part of coach Manuel Pellegrini's plans, but Real Madrid will not think twice before letting them go if an interesting opportunity arises.

The Spanish paper claims that Rafael van der Vaart is also a possibility, but that Bayern's preferences lean towards the other two Holland internationals.

It is believed Real would also put
