Goodnight, sweet boy: Nhaveen dies without regaining consciousness
GEORGE TOWN: T. Nhaveen, the victim of a vicious assault at the hands of a group of teenagers on Saturday, has died.
The 18-year-old was pronounced dead at the Penang Hospital’s intensive care unit at 6pm today.
Nhaveen died without regaining consciousness.
His death was confirmed by Northeast District police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Omar.
Nhaveen had been declared ‘brain dead’ ever since he was subjected to a horrific physical and sexual assault at the hands of his tormentors.
At 2.20am on On Saturday, Nhaveen and his friend T. Previin, were buying burgers at a stall when they encountered two people, who were Nhaveen’s former classmates.
The two taunted Nhaveen and called him names, including ‘pondan’ (sissy).
Nhaveen pleaded with the two to stop taunting him, and warned them to back off. However, the two then called their friends to the scene.
The group then began assaulting Nhaveen and Previin.
Previin escaped but Nhaveen was dragged to a field and was further assaulted. The group, aged 16 to 20, allegedly inserted a blunt object into Nhaveen's anus.
The five suspects are currently investigated for rioting under Section 148 of the Penal Code.
Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Omar however said police would recommend that the case be investigated under Section 377CA of the Penal Code since there is evidence of forced insertion of an object into the victim’s anus.
Section 377CA refers to sexual connection by object and carries a minimum five-year and maximum 30-year jail term and whipping.
Nhaveen’s case has since garnered attention on social media, with Malaysians expressing an outpouring of sympathy towards him and his family.
A candlelight vigil held outside at the compound of the Penang Hospital last night to pray for the teen’s recovery drew more than 200 people. |

GEORGE TOWN, June 15 — Eighteen-year-old T. Nhaveen who was savagely beaten up and sodomised with an object last Saturday, died at 6pm today.
The teen had been unconscious when he was admitted to the Penang Hospital here and placed at the intensive care unit and later declared clinically brain dead.
“Got a call from the hospital informing about the death of Nhaveen A/L Thirumaran involved in JL/3670/17,” Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Omar said in a brief text message.
He later added that a post-mortem will be conducted tonight.
“We will refer to the deputy public prosecutor’s office for charges for the case to be under Section 302 of the Penal Code,” Anuar said.
Section 302 is for murder which carries a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
Nhaveen and his friend, T. Previin, 19, were at a burger stall in Taman Tun Sardon, Gelugor in the early hours of June 10 when they bumped into two other teenagers. A fight broke out after insults were thrown.
Previin escaped with injuries. Nhaveen was hauled off to a field in Jalan Kaki Bukit where three other teenagers, believed to be friends of the initial two, and brutalised with crash helmets and burnt with cigarette butts. He was also assaulted anally.
A brother of one of the five suspected attackers later sent Nhaveen to hospital.
The five boys, aged between 16 and 18, were immediately arrested and have admitted to assaulting Nhaveen.
Three of them have completed Form Five and are waiting for SPM results while two are currently in Form Five.
The five teenagers are believed to be involved in another assault case involving another 19-year-old boy back in May and have been further detained for investigations into the case.

student I nak defend nama ayah kena ejek dia sampai hilang gigi, classmate sendiri yg buat plak tu. Budak2 skrg pandai belakon, dpn cikgu diam tak bkutik, cikgu keluar terus perangai 'setan'.
Budak2 skrg advanced, tak blwh nk treat mcm zaman kita dlu. Semua benda tahu. Bila dpt tunjuk kuasa, rasa hebat sgt, yg future lgsg tak fikir...
Young generation yg ada skrg I rasa sgt kesian. |
