Ronaldo Abuses His Talent -

Panucci Roma's Christian Panucci believes that Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo often abuses the talent he has at his disposal.

Panucci will come up against Ronaldo as the Portuguese switches from one flank to the other on Wednesday, when the two sides clash in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final.

However, Roma's veteran defender, while impressed with the Portuguese's talent, insisted Roma would not be falling for his antics. He also made a suttle reference towards the winger's reputation of diving.

"Ronaldo's class is unquestionable," the Daily Mail quote him as saying. "But I believe he abuses his dribbling talents and always exaggerates his falls.

"A lot will depend on the referee but in Roma, Ronaldo will not be daring enough to do it because we will not fall for his tricks."

Team-mate Mancini, who showed his own dribbling skills off in Lyon, and with superb results, agreed with Panucci's comments.

"I've watched Premier League matches and he is protected by referees," said Roma's Brazilian forward. "I don't think he will be on Wednesday."

With Totti already having warned Sir Alex Ferguson to watch out for him, and now this, the temparatures are surely beginning to rise as the Red Devils prepare for their Italian trip.

Mancini: Roma Fear No One The Giallorossi will be facing Manchester United on Wednesday evening in the first leg of the Champions League quarter finals.

Roma are not afraid of any team left in the Champions League after surprisingly eliminating Lyon in the previous round. Mancini is now hoping that the Giallorossi can repeat the feat against the English side.

"Let's hope that they make the same mistake which Lyon did by underestimating us," explained the Brazilian winger. "We have proved that whenever they place us as underdogs, we can overturn the predictions. Let's hope it happens this time too.

"At Manchester they are used to playing such important matches and they know what they need in these Champions League clashes. It will be tough, but the most important thing is that Roma fears no one.

"We respect our opponents, but we know our quality and courage. We play every one for each other with a great sense of solidarity, which is always seen on the pitch. We are strong."

Rome warning angers Mayor
Wednesday 4 April, 2007

Mayor of Rome Walter Veltroni has noted his irritation towards the warning which Manchester United issued to fans ahead of their trip to the Italian capital.

United face the Giallorossi at the Olimpico tonight in the Champions League, just days after the English club抯 website published a letter advising their 4,000 travelling supporters of no-go areas in town.

揟hese comments from Manchester are unfortunate, unpleasant and they are also dangerous because they can create a negative climate,

Perrotta looks to spirit of World Cup victory

Roma midfielder Simone Perrotta goes into tonight's Champions League match against Manchester United hoping his team can duplicate the success achieved by Italy in Germany last summer.

Giallorossi players Perrotta, Francesco Totti and Daniele De Rossi were all in the Azzurri squad that upset the odds to capture the World Cup and Roma are attempting to do the same in Europe's elite club competition.

'We have the same unity within the group as the national team and the same mentality,' said Perrotta. 'Now we hope to get the same results as Italy did at the World Cup.'

The quarter-final ties against the Red Devils has a special significance for the 29-year-old, who was born in Ashton-under-Lyne, just a half-hour's drive from Old Trafford.

'When we beat Lyon I said I wanted to face Man United in the quarter finals,' he said. 'It is a unique tie for me for many reasons.

'I will get the opportunity to face a great team and play against the best players. Most of all, it will give my parents and me the opportunity to return to a city where we shared so many fond memories.'

Perrotta will be hoping to leave Manchester in a week's time with a smile, but in the meantime, he is aware of the challenge his team face against the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney at the Stadio Olimpico.

'We know that we face the team that play the best football in Europe,' Perrotta continued. 'Man United have players that play above average and it will be down to us to try to limit their quality.'

Perrotta nevertheless remains optimistic and for good reason as Roma remain unbeaten in the Eternal City in European competition since December 2004.

The Giallorossi, who are second in Serie A behind unbeaten Inter Milan, go into the clash against the Premiership leaders in inspired mode.

Few could have anticipated that Luciano Spalletti's men would end Lyon's 18-match unbeaten home record in the Champions League following their 2-0 triumph in the previous round, to qualify to the last eight of the competition for the first time in 23 years.

'I think in that game we proved that we can compete against anyone,' said Perrotta. 'I believe our victory in Lyon has given us more confidence.

'The pressure we face against Manchester is the same pressure we faced at Lyon and we hope can repeat the same performance.'
