As Villa were organising themselves to defend a free kick on the edge of the box, Henry caught them out by taking it quickly with Thomas Sorensen nowhere.

Villa protested, in vain, just as they did seven minutes into the second half when the referee awarded a penalty after Nwankwo Kanu ran into Olof Mellberg -- Henry converting the spot kick.

Villa manager David O'Leary was predictably upset at the manner of the defeat.

"In my opinion it was a joke decision," he told Sky Sports.

"The referee has asked our players to give them 10 yards and wait for the whistle. We did what he said."

He was similarly upset about the penalty decision. "It just wasn't a penalty -- no chance -- they know themselves," he said.

"There wasn't much in the game and the two decisions have cost us." Referee Mark Halsey denied that he had told the Villa players to retreat.

"Henry said he wanted a quick free kick. I didn't ask the Villa players to go back 10 yards," the official said.

"In law I'm under no obligation to tell the Villa players that a quick free kick is to be taken and I'm under no obligation to blow the whistle at any free kick."

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger added: "It was a strange goal I must concede -- is it fair or not? Is it good or not? I don't know.  <---- arsene wenger buat donno, yang penting masuk dan goal... horray for henry.. ho ho ho !!!

"It happened against us a few years ago but I feel from the outside you don't really know -- the rules are not really clear." <---- betul tu arsene wenger, yang penting arsenal akan buat rekod untuk menjadi team yang tidak pernah kalah dalam liga english... GO ARSENAL GO !!!
