Saviola Blow Adds To Bar? Woe

Barcelona have suffered another huge set-back with the news that Javier Saviola will be unable to play for between four and six weeks after picking up a thigh injury.

"The injury is in a dangerous place and that is why we estimate that it will be around four to six weeks before the player will have made a full recovery," the club's medical services stated.

With Samuel Eto'o out four another four months with knee ligament damage and Leo Messi set to miss three months after breaking his fifth metatarsal on Sunday evening, Bar? are short of attacking options.

For this weekend's encounter at Real Mallorca, coach Frank Rijkaard only has Ronaldinho, Eidur Gudjohnsen, Ludovic Giuly and Santiago Ezquerro fit attacking players to fill the three front positions.

Due to this predicament, the club are reported to be scouring the transfer market to make an emergency signing and have already asked Helsingborgs if they would allow Henrik Larsson to return on loan.

The Swedish league has stopped for the winter and Larsson is already well-known to Bar? after he spent a very successful spell at the club that ended in the summer when he opted to return hom for family reasons.

Barcelona ponder shock Larsson move

Barcelona are weighing up a move for former striker Henrik Larsson.

The Swede only left the Nou Camp at the end of last season and has been outstanding at Helsingborgs.

Barca, with Sammy Eto'o and Leo Messi out for an extended period, are considering asking Helsingborgs about taking Larsson on-loan while the Swedish competition goes into winter recess.

Barcelona To SOS Larsson?

Rocked by injuries to Eto'o, Saviola and Messi, Barcelona are reportedly considering requesting Henrik Larsson to return to bail the club out of their injury crisis.

Samuel Eto'o is recovering from a knee injury, and is at least another three months from a return, while Lionel Messi will also be out for a similar period after an operation on his foot to correct a fracture.

News has also just filtered in that Javier Saviola wil be out for six weeks after tearing a thigh muscles.

Barcelona are considering a winter move, but Rijkaard is not too keen to sign someone who might take a lot of time to settle in, given that the needs are immediate.

Larsson - currently playing for Helsinborg - fits perfectly, given his familiarity with the club, the city, and most importantly, Rijkaad's style of play. That he used to play both up front and on the right, makes him even more appropriate given the two injuries.

Sweden's League season has just ended, and the 2007 season will resume after a long winter break. Barcelona are hoping that will help them convince Helsinborg to let Larsson go.

However, they must first convince Larsson, who moved back to Sweden for family reasons. Barcelona technical director Txiki Begiristain is expected to set the ball rolling this week.

Larrson or his club are yet to comment on the matter. Albert Luque and Diego Tristan are the other names that have reportedly been discussed.

Foot op sidelines Messi for three months

MADRID, Nov 13 (Reuters) - Argentine forward Lionel Messi will need surgery on a foot injury sustained in Sunday's 3-1 Primera Liga win over Real Zaragoza that will sideline him for up to three months.

'Messi has broken the fifth metatarsal in his left foot. He will need surgery and the estimated time out will be around three months,' Barcelona said on their website on Monday.

The 19-year-old international limped off in the 23rd minute of Sunday's game after tackles from Zaragoza midfielders Alberto Zapater and Albert Celades in a frenetic opening period.

Messi will miss Barca's remaining Champions League Group A matches against Levski Sofia and Werder Bremen. The European champions are third in the group.

He will also been unable to compete in December's World Club Cup in Japan.

Messi's loss is a major blow to the Primera Liga leaders with Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o still recovering from knee surgery and not expected back until the new year.

Brazilian midfielder Edmilson also picked up an injury on Sunday and is expected to be laid low for around 10 days with a twisted ankle.
