[INTERVIEW] 150512 BEAST’s Jang Hyunseung: “BIGBANG and I Support Each Other”
BEAST member Jang Hyunseung recently shared his thoughts on promoting at the same time as BIGBANG.
On May 11, Hyunseung sat down for an interview with TV Report to discuss his solo activities and the release of his first-ever solo album “MY.”
Coincidentally, Hyunseung’s solo promotions—scheduled for a span of only two weeks—overlapped with BIGBANG’s comeback.
When asked about his thoughts on promoting with BIGBANG again, Hyunseung expressed, “I really like it. I think it’s a good picture to see that we’re promoting together, and I’m not being tied to BIGBANG.”
The BEAST member continued, “We first met through a survival program and I was eliminated from BIGBANG.”
As many fans may already know, Hyunseung was part of a show that aired in 2006 on MTV called “BIGBANG Documentary,” which followed the pre-debut selection process to become a final member of the group BIGBANG. At the time, Hyunseung was unable to make the cut. However, he later debuted as a member of BEAST and found success of his own.
“Had I disappeared without a trace or not earned popularity with BEAST, I honestly don’t know [how I would feel]. But now, BIGBANG and I are both doing well together, which is a good situation. I hope people will be able to view us positively because we are all doing well from our individual positions.”
On his relationship with the BIGBANG members, Hyunseung shared, “The members and I contact one another from time to time. We didn’t have a special conversation just because we met at the broadcast station. That would be more strange (laughs). It’s good that we are supporting each other.”

On March 11, BEAST‘s Jang Hyun Seung had an interview discussing his first solo album “My.” During the interview, he also answered questions about BEAST’s comeback.
He answers, “We are preparing. If you wait a little, I think you will be able to see a good album. I think we might be able to meet before the hot summer ends?”
The singer also expresses his thankfulness towards his fellow members supporting his solo debut. He shares, “My members are cheering me on a lot. They write on SNS and they personally support me. They all said the song is good and I think they were pleased with the album as well.”
Meanwhile, Jang Hyun Seung is currently promoting his first solo album after officially debuting on May 8.

In an interview at the Cube Cafe, Hyunseung talked about his fellow B2STmembers and dirty jokes.
He first talked about the cursing in the lyrics for “I Said I Love You,” revealing,“After recording it, I wasn’t sure if I should include [the cursing] or take it out. I watched the movie ’Beastie Boys’ and wanted to put in a tragic love story. I wanted to write the saddest and most tragic love story in the world and thought, ‘This is it,’ when I saw 'Beastie Boys.’ The cursing that comes at the end [of the song] is also a line from a scene in the movie.”
He was asked, “The album title is ’MY,’ so are there, as one would expect, your personal stories in the lyrics?” Hyunseung replied, “There’s nothing at all in 'I Said I Love You,’ but ’Dirty Jokes’ could be my story. But 'Dirty Jokes’ has lyrics that can be imagined and expressed humorously by anybody, so I don’t personally think, 'This is my story.’ I engaged myself in the song by also imagining and creating things that didn’t happen.”
He then revealed, “I’m not the type to enjoy dirty jokes. However, I do like listening to them. I like it when I have friends who can tell dirty jokes in a fun way.” As a result, Hyunseung was asked, “Who tells dirty jokes the best among B2ST members?” He replied, “I think they’re all equally good. If the members were with me here right now, I would say who it was, but since they’re not here, I feel uncertain about saying anything. I think they’re all on a similar level.”

B2ST’s Hyunseung talked in detail about his recent solo comeback as well as his thoughts on working with sexy stars such as 4Minute’s HyunA and actressHwang Seung Uhn from ’Let’s Eat 2.’
He said, “I didn’t want to be in-your-face sexy, but wanted to loosen up the power. It is nice when people would tell me that I’m sexy, but I don’t make myself to be sexy on my own. It is especially true this time around.
I think that real sexy is when it doesn’t seem like it and has a subtlety to it, rather than forcing it. For both men and women, it is considered a compliment to be called sexy, so it’s not that I don’t want to not be sexy. But I also don’t want to be openly labeled as ‘sexy male singer’. I want to appeal with my natural charms.”
He also added, “I look at B2ST’s fan page, and when I look at the words of those who like me, more say that I’m cute rather than sexy.”
When talking about collaborating with HyunA in the past and current partner, actress Hwang Seung Uhn, Hyunseung said, “I like the fact that I was able to work with the two of them. I think that I’m blessed,” bringing laughs.

Jang Hyunseung who came out as a solo revealed “seems like it can be done before summer ends” when asked about group BEAST’s comeback.
On the morning of the 11th, Jang Hyunseung held a release commemorative interview in Cube Cafe, Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam, Seoul for his first first solo album ‘My’. In the interview, he mentioned the news about BEAST’s comeback as six.
On the day, he managed to attract attention as he said, “We’re preparing right now. It seems like we will be able to see everyone with a good album if you’d just wait for a little while more. The timing that I have in mind is not far from now; it seems like we’ll be able to meet everyone before the hot summer is gone?”.
Jang Hyunseung released his first solo album ‘MY’ for the first time after his debut, and has started his promotions. This time, his title track ‘Ma First’ was produced by Black Eyed Pilsung (Choi Kyusung & Rado), is a song that makes an impression with a funky sound and flashy trap beat. More than anything, we are able to see the attractiveness of Jang Hyunseung, the vocal of this album.
Jang Hyunseung expressed his thanks by talking about the members giving him a lot of support for this solo album. He says, “The members support me a lot. They uploaded it on SNS and supported me privately too. They all said the song was really good, and this seems to be an album that were satisfactory to the members too”.
After his first broadcast, his gratitude to the fans has gotten stronger. He realised that the things that he took for granted when he was with BEAST were actually things that aren’t just naturally there without a doubt. So Jang Hyunseung went to the pre-recording earlier to personally thank the fans who came for him. He gifted them with a potted plant that befits his nickname ‘Rancho’.
He says, “I thought there wouldn’t be many fans turning up, but many actually came, so I was really happy. To be honest when I promoted as six in BEAST, no matter where we went many fans supported us, so now that I’ve come out alone, it feels like I’ve left that (consistency). Since I’ve come out with a solo album and the result that I’ll receive will be that of a solo. I received a lot of love from the very start and that’s something I have to be really thankful for. As I remind myself that I shouldn’t lose my rookie mind, somehow I think I want to feel that gratitude that I’ve had before. The activity and love given from the fandom when we promote as BEAST is something I cannot take for granted. I’ve realised that a little late”, revealing his inner thoughts.
Jang Hyunseung who has returned with a glamorous solo. We’re look forward to seeing what judgements/responses he’ll receive through this album.
