CL Reaction: Rijkaard Confident Of Qualifying

Frank Rijkaard is confident that his Barça team will defeat Werder Bremen in two weeks and progress to the eliminiation stage of the Champions League.

The Dutch coach was speaking after the Blaugrana's 2-0 victory against Levski in Sofia kept them in the competition.

With Werder defeating Chelsea, the reigning European champions must now win their final game against the Germans in Camp Nou to leapfrog them into secnd place.

"I am optmistic about the game against Bremen," Rijkaard said. "Now we have no alternative but to beat them and I am sure that will."

Goals from Ludovic Giuly and Andr閟 Iniesta gave Barça victory in Bulgaria in a scrappy encounter that saw little quality football played by the two teams.

"It was impossible for us to do more than we did given the circumstances," the Barcelona boss continued.

"We had to work, fight and search hard for our reward and, in that sense, is why I am happy, because the team has done its job very well.

"It was not a great game from a football point of view, but I think that it was always going to be difficult.

"The second goal calmed us down and we finished the match without any injuries which was important.

Levski have failed to earn a single point from their five matches in Group A, but coach Stanimir Stoilov was impressed by his team's performance.

"The first half was even," he said. "They scored an early goal which we could have prevented if we had defended better.

"We made other mistakes but I think this was the Levski we want to see and the fans want to see. We tried to make Barcelona work hard but were a bit short of luck.

"The most important thing is that we have gained a lot of experience in the group, especially playing against two of the best teams in Europe, which will hopefully help us achieve better results next season if we reach the group stage again."
