Wigan sack manager Hutchings after six months
Monday November 5, 11:24 PM
| | LONDON, Nov 5 (Reuters) - Wigan Athletic said on Monday they had sacked manager Chris Hutchings 12 games into the Premier League season and just six months after he was appointed. Wigan lost 2-0 at home to Chelsea on Saturday to slip into the bottom three with on eight points.
"This has been a very difficult decision for me and the board to make but I felt we had to act in the best interests of the club and its long-term future," chairman Dave Whelan said in a statement on the Lancashire club's Web site (www.wiganlatics.premiumtv.co.uk). "Chris has worked very hard since becoming manager and I cannot fault either his effort or commitment to the cause. However, it is crucial for the development of Wigan that we maintain our Premier League status this season and following results and performances in recent matches, we feel it is critical to act now. |

Becks to join Gunners or Spurs
Last Updated: Wed, 14 Nov 2007 11:37

David Beckham is set to train with either Tottenham or rivals Arsenal during the MLS off-season, according to a newspaper report.
The England international midfielder is looking to maintain his fitness levels after his American club side LA Galaxy's campaign came to an end recently. And, as Beckham is due back in England for a large chunk of the four-and-a-half months off, it is claimed he will be joining up with a London-based club's training sessions.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has always stated his admiration for Beckham which is why Arsenal are being tipped to take him on board, but the Sun also claims Spurs are in the reckoning which would make sense given the number of his England team-mates in the White Hart Lane squad.
LA Galaxy have already ruled out the possibility of Beckham joining a club on loan in the MLS off-season, but the former Manchester United and Real Madrid man will be looking to add to his 97 England caps while keeping in the frame for selection in Steve McClaren's squad should they qualify for Euro 2008 next summer. |
