Bimbang kelibat Rangel
Oleh: MAZRAM IDZAM RIDZAL MAHMUD
Tarikh: March 21, 2014

Apex (tengah) mahu benteng pertahanan Kelantan mengekang kelincahan penyerang Selangor, Rangel apabila kedua-dua pasukan bertemu, malam esok.

KEHEBATAN penyerang import Selangor, Paulo Rangel yang muncul selaku penjaring terbanyak saingan Liga Super dengan tujuh gol setakat ini, jelas menerbitkan rasa bimbang bagi penjaga gol The Red Warriors (TRW), Khairul Fahmi Che Mat.

Khairul Fahmi atau dikenali Apex berkata, kelibat pemain kelahiran Brazil itu wajar dirantai secukup-cukupnya apabila Kelantan turun menentang Selangor di Stadium Shah Alam, malam esok.

“Kami perlu bijak menutup ruang dimiliki Paulo Rangel.

Selangor in danger
By AJITPAL SINGH | ajitpalsingh@nst.com.my

POOR FORM: Durakovic's side desperately need good results

IS the clock ticking for Selangor coach Mehmet Durakovic?

Despite an abundance of talent in the squad, Selangor are running out of time to make their presence felt this season.

If proactive measures are not urgently taken, Selangor can forget about ending their three-year trophy drought this season.

In fact, the former giants may soon play home matches before sparse crowds if they do not improve as fans are losing patience.

Durakovic was hired in November to transform Selangor into a winning unit but so far, they are playing football like a Super League mid-table side.

But to be fair with Durakovic, he did not decide on the hiring of players before the start of the season.

Selangor, who exited the second round of the FA Cup, have drawn three times and lost two games in all competitions since their last win on Feb 8.

The former Super League champions also face an uphill task of progressing in the AFC Cup following the 1-0 defeat to Hanoi T&T on Wednesday.

With only two points from three matches, Selangor need to buck up to advance to the knockout stage.

The hectic schedule could be affecting Selangor's campaign but it's a poor excuse considering Durakovic has depth on the bench.

Selangor need a win over a big team as motivation and the former FA Cup winners can turn their fortunes around if they beat east coast giants Kelantan, who are joint league leaders with Terengganu, on their return to Shah Alam Stadium for the first time this season tomorrow.

Durakovic did his best to paint a silver lining after Selangor's disappointing defeat to Hanoi on Wednesday.

"Despite a busy schedule, we played well but it was not enough. We had several good chances but did not score from them. Hanoi were tactically good and played with spirit," Durakovic told www.the-afc.com.

"It's only our first defeat in the AFC Cup. I believe we have a chance of progressing far. My team will bounce back."

Despite playing in three competitions simultaneously, Kelantan have adapted with the schedule by rotating their players.

Coach Steve Darby said Kelantan are managing with no major injuries.

"I will field the six regulars, who I rested in the 3-2 defeat to Ninh Binh in Tuesday's AFC Cup match, against Selangor. We are confident of a good result," said Darby.

Ini kepulangan yang sempurna - Mehmet

PENYERANG Selangor, A. Thamil Arasu (kanan) dihadang oleh pertahanan Kelantan, Obbinna Nwaneri dalam aksi Liga Super di Stadium Shah Alam, semalam.

KUALA LUMPUR - Kejayaan Selangor meraih tiga mata berharga selepas menewaskan Kelantan 1-0 di Stadium Shah Alam, kelmarin nyata menggembirakan pengendalinya, Mehmet Durakovic.

Selangor 1-0 Kelantan: Red Giants win game of two penalties
The Red Warriors never got out of second gear and crashed to a defeat at Selangor, missing a penalty along the way.

BY MARK DAWSON
Kelantan should have gone ahead on 20 minutes as they were awarded the softest of penalties. It was unfamiliar left back S. Kunanlan who was adjudged to have felled Shawky Yazid, in a challenge that looked more shoulder to shoulder than an intentional foul. From a Selangor point of view justice was then done as Farizal Marlias kept out Francis Forkey Doe's penalty, although he himself was fortunate that the penalty wasn't retaken as the keeper had strayed at least three yards off his line before the ball was kicked.

The Red Giants struck back by going ahead on 22 minutes, and it was all down to the individual brilliance of Paolo Rangel. He picked up the ball from deep and wriggled past Obinna Nwaneri, before beating Tuan Faim and Zairul Fitree in the box, with his run eventually being stopped thanks to a clumsy tackle by Tuan Faim, resulting in a penalty. Although Khairul Fahmi guessed the right way for the resulting penalty, Rangel's low strike had enough power to creep underneath him.

Selangor could have added to their lead on 33 minutes as S Veenod burst forward from midfield and decided to go alone rather than play in Rangel. His effort from just inside the area had the required power, but was too high, and the midfielder was subsequently left in a heap from Obinna's late challenge which could have resulted in a second penalty.

Three minutes later and the usually reliable Rangel had a golden opportunity to make it 2-0. Their seemed little danger from a corner as Obinna headed clear, but Selangor headed the ball back into the area finding Rangel unmarked six yards out. However the Brazilian could only head wide with Khairul Fahmi off his line, in a miss the forward could scarcely believe.

Although the Red Warriors hit back with a long range strike from Wan Zahararulnizam which went just wide, they were sloppy in possession and extremely vulnerable whenever the home team pushed forward, with Thamil Arasu and Andik Vermanshah continually finding space. Thamil almost found danger man Rangel with a ball across goal just before the break, but the striker was unable to get a toe on the cross.

Selangor's silky skilled Andik was enjoying one of his finest games in a red shirt, and it was another of his precise through balls that led to the first real chance of the second half on 55 minutes. He played in Thamil who decided not to cross for Rangel, and try and catch Fahmi out at his near post, but the keeper was up to the challenge.

By his standards Paolo Rangel was guilty of perhaps the miss of the season on 59 minutes. It was good build up play again by the home team who picked up where they left off in the first half, and after Gurusamy was released in the area he squared for Rangel who missed the open goal from 10 yards out.

The visitors, despite making three substitutions, were struggling to create any chances of note in an unusually flat performance. In fact it was the home team, namely through Andik and Rangel, who looked the more dangerous, with the latter going close on 74 minutes after another counter attack.

In the final 15 minutes of the game Kelantan did finally step up their game and apply some pressure to the home side, who began to defend deeper and deeper. However set-pieces aside, the Red Warriors failed to create any real chances of note. Their one golden chance arrived on 90 minutes as Fakri Saarani hit a low shot following a scramble in the box, but Farizal Marlias reacted brilliantly to turn the ball behind and secure a precious three points for his team.

Red Giants overpower Sarawak

KUCHING: Sarawak fans had good reasons to turn up in full force at Stadium Negeri last night. They got their first wish – catching Sarawak’s latest new imports Ryan Griffiths and Hassan Al Hassan in action.

But their second wish was not granted as Sarawak fell 0-2 to a surging Selangor side. Griffiths and Hassan were in the thick of action in key moments of the game. Barely a minute into the game, Sarawak earned a free kick after Griffiths was brought down.

The Aussie striker’s shot hit the Selangor defensive wall. In the 9th minute Hassan had only the goalkeeper to beat. But his shot saw the ball rolled toward the post and went out. Selangor players were in an aggressive mode and moved in a furious pace.

They were rewarded in the 24th minute when Andik Vermansyah’s long shot caught Sarawak goal ie Sani Anuar Kamsani who had strayed out of position and slipped. Selangor led 1-0 at half-time.

Sarawak had their chances after the interval through Griffiths and Mohd Rashid Aya. But the Red Giants continued to dominate possession with their robust play. In the 52th minute Ronny Harun’s missed kick while at tempting a clearance was punished. Thamil Arasu collected the rebound to fire home Selangor’s second goal.

Coach Robert Alberts then attempted to reverse Sarawak’s fortune with substitutions. Mohd Rashid Aya came in for Joseph Kallang, then Akmal Rizal Ahmad for Mohd Lot Abu Hassan and finally Ashri Chuchu for Hassan. But the Crocs were unable to control the tempo of the game. Instead it was the local fans who grew agitated with Selangor’s physical play.

The Red Giants were to dominate possession right to the end of the match.

Liga Super: Selangor 2 PKNS FC 2
29/03/2014
Berita, Liga Super

Malah jurulatih Selangor, Mehmet Durakovic terpaksa mencuba gandingan serangan baru – A Thamil Arasu dan Hazwan Bakri berikutan penggempur utamanya, Paulo Rangel digantung satu perlawanan akibat mengumpul tiga kad kuning.

SELANGOR: 25. Farizal Marlias, 12. Bunyamin Umar (c), 4. Steve Pantelidis, 5. Shahrom Kalam, 16. S Kunanlan, 14. Abdul Hadi Yahya (10. Junior Aparecido ’56), 15. K Gurusamy (24. Fittri Shazwan Raduwan ’90), 23. S Veenod, 7. Andik Vermansah, 11. Hazwan Bakri (19. Afiq Azmi ’73), 20. A Thamil Arasu.

Crocked Gurusamy a blow to Selangor's hopes
By ERIC SAMUEL

PETALING JAYA: Tough-tackling midfielder K. Gurusamy’s absence will be a huge blow to Selangor ahead of their AFC Cup match against Group F leaders Hanoi T&T of Vietnam.

Gurusamy is disappointed that he will have to miss the match at the Shah Alam Stadium on Tuesday after aggravating an injury on his right knee during the Super League home game against PKNS FC on Saturday.

“I will know the full extend of the injury once I do an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) on my right knee tomorrow. It is the same knee which was operated on last year,” said Gurusamy.

“But I have faith in my team to do well and make a strong claim to qualify to the round of 16.”

Selangor are hoping for a change of fortune in the AFC Cup competition after two draws and a loss in three matches.

The Red Giants are languishing in third spot with only two points. They badly need to get their act right and collect full points against Hanoi T&T.

Team manager Datuk S. Sivasundaram admitted that Tuesday’s game was crucial for his boys.

“The players understand the situation ... we can’t afford anymore slip-ups. If we are to make a comeback, we need to get points onboard in our remaining fixtures,” said Sivasundaram.

Selangor opened their campaign with identical 1-1 draws against Maziya SC of Maldives and Arema FC of Indonesia before losing to Hanoi T&T 1-0 in Hanoi.

Sivasundaram said Selangor should be boosted by the return of Brazilian striker Paulo Rangel, who missed Saturday’s Super League match against PKNS FC due to a one-match suspension.

“Rangel’s presence should add more bite to our attack. We lost to the Vietnamese side by a solitary goal. I’m sure we can fight back on Tuesday and revive our chances to move into the next round,” said Sivasundaram.

Hanoi T&T are going great guns in the competition, having collected the maximum nine points. Arema FC are second with four points while Maziya SC prop up the table with just a point.

Selangor Wajib Menang.
Posted on March 31, 2014 by Fauzi Blues

Selangor wajib menang kesemua baki 3 perlawanan Piala AFC 2014

Hatrik Rangel benam Hanoi

AFC Cup MD4: Selangor 3-1 Hanoi T&T

Published: 02 April 2014 Shah Alam: A first-half hat-trick by Paulo Rangel gave Selangor a comfortable 3-1 victory over Hanoi T&T on Tuesday as the Malaysian side picked up their first win in Group F of the AFC Cup and prevented the Vietnamese champions from clinching a spot in the Round of 16.

The Brazilian striker headed the home side ahead at the Shah Alam Stadium after 21 minutes, fired in his second 11 minutes later and then completed his treble two minutes before half-time after Gonzalo Marronkle had cut the deficit for the visitors with a penalty.

Selangor’s win saw them move up to five points, four adrift of T&T and two behind Arema Indonesia, who beat Maldives side Maziya 3-2 on Tuesday.

"I am happy that we scored three goals. I am not happy with so many yellow cards,” said Selangor coach Mehmet Durakovic, who was delighted with the result but disappointed by the lack of discipline shown by his players, who received seven yellow cards in total in the match.

“We could have scored more. The players were positive. We played attacking football. It takes time but I’m confident we will get there soon. It's a young team who have enthusiasm and work hard for each other.

“The whole team played very well and this Selangor team is the team for the future.”

Hanoi, who had taken maximum points from their first three games and needed just a draw to advance to the Knockout Stage, began brightly with Hughton Hector and Gonzalo Marronkle both missing early chances.

Those misses would prove costly in the 21st minute when Rangel jumped highest in the Hanoi box to meet S.Veenod’s free-kick from the right with a towering header that looped over the head of goalkeeper Duong Hong Son into the far corner of the net.

The Red Giants continued to look for more goals and their efforts paid off in the 32nd minute when Abdul Hadi Yahaya received the ball from S. Kunanlan's cross and squared it to Rangel, and the lone striker made no mistake slotting home his second goal.

Hanoi T&T pushed forward right after the restart and earned a penalty when Selangor captain Mohamed Bunyamin Umar fouled Nguyen Van Quyet in the box. Bunyamin received a yellow card and Gonzalo made no mistake from the spot to give the Vietnamese side the lead.

However Selangor would not settle for that score line and Rangel found himself clear in the box once again and put the ball into the same side of the net for a third time to complete his hat-trick in the 42nd minute.

Neither side was able to add to the scoreline in the second half with Samson Olaley and Hector missing the best chances for the visitors as Selangor held on to keep alive their hopes of reaching the knockout stage.

"Of course the result is not good for us. We could have converted a few chances but we didn't do it. I am happy with the team performance but sadly we did not score enough goal," said Hanoi T&T Coach Phan Thanh Hung.

"It was not easy to penetrate the Selangor defence. Not only the back four but the whole Selangor team did very well to stop us. We struggled a little bit."
