Arsenal Had Interest In Messi

Arsenal apparently gave up on signing Lionel Messi because of the problems they would have faced over the work permit.
The Gunners chief scout Steve Rowley is quoted in the Daily Mail, assaying: "He was in the same team as Cesc Fabregas, but we couldn't do anything because he is Argentine and that causes work permit problems."
Messi, 20, has blossomed into a fine attacking player at Barcelona after graduating to the first-team in 2004.
Spain international Fabregas, who joined the north London club fromBarca youth side in 2003, has meanwhile gone on to develop into one ofthe best playmakers in the world.

Wenger Slams Blatter Proposals

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes Sepp Blatter's proposals to restrict the number of foreign players in each team is "completely ridiculous."
FIFA president Blatter's announced that he will lobby for restrictions on the overseas players in each side and Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has voiced his approval.(elleh...jeles sbb Arsenal kat persada liga!:@:@)

But Wenger told Arsenal's club magazine: "I find the whole proposal completely ridiculous," he said. "The thinking behind it, I believe, is to protect the national teams. But it won't protect the best players, it will protect the mediocre ones and you don't win a World Cup with mediocre players, you win it with world-class ones."
He added: "The best English players - the Rooneys, the Owens, the Gerrards, the Lampards - they are all playing for their clubs anyway.
"FIFA are wrong if they think this will improve international football. Look atrugby for example. The Argentina national team - all their players play in Europe, and the national team takes advantage of that. Had they all stayed in Argentina, would they have made the semi-finals? To mix the best with the best makes everyone better.
"I am worried that it could happen. I would say that it's more than 50% likely to be brought in.
"FIFA is powerful enough to implement the rule internally, if (Sepp) Blatterhas the support of the council and his committees. Will it go through or not, I do not know but it looks as though it could. I have already had many discussions at UEFA and it looks as though it could happen.
"I don't believe one football coach at the highest level would say it's a good idea. A football coach is always confronted with the same problem- he wants to reward good players."
Asked what would happen if the rule was introduced, Wenger added: "First of all we have to fight against it.
"If you fight it that should buy us some time. During that time you have to adapt to it."

Wenger - I'll rest players if we qualify early

By Richard Clarke

Ars鑞e Wenger wants to qualify for the Champions League Knockout Stage as soon as possible so he can rest players during a hectic December.

The Arsenal manager takes his side to Prague today ahead of Wednesday抯 match against Slavia. A draw will be enough to put them through. Anything like the 7-0 win against the Czech side on Matchday Three and, barring a collapse when they visit Sevilla, they will have won Group H.

That trip to Spain comes at the start of a heavy period leading up to Christmas and New Year. Arsenal are set to play 13 games in the six weeks between Wigan抯 visit to Emirates Stadium on November 24 and the FA Cup Third Round tie on the first weekend in January.

Recent draws at Liverpool and against Manchester United suggest Wenger抯 side have real title-winning potential. If Arsenal do win on Wednesday, the shrewd Frenchman may look to shuffle his squad in the build-up to the festive period.

"We want to qualify as quickly as possible and we can achieve that at Slavia Prague,
