Gilberto denies Arsenal exit talk
Midfielder Gilberto has suggested he is eager to get a new deal at Arsenal but is also unsure whether he features in Arsene Wenger抯 future plans. The 31-year-old Brazil captain has found himself largely on the bench this season with the Gunners youngsters putting in stunning performances consistently in the Premiership.
As such Gilberto, who however found a rare starting place in the 0-0 Champions League draw at Slavia Prague Wednesday night, has been linkedwith a move to Valencia and Juventus.
He however refuted the speculations that he has had a bust-up with Wenger. He said: "This is not true. We have a great respect for each other."
But Gilberto has admitted that his present situation is "uncomfortable" while also expressing a wish to stay with the north London club till the end of his career.
He said: "It would be great if I extend my contract with the club and finish my career here. We will see if the club has the same feeling.
"I'm not thinking about leaving the club now. I prefer to think I have the [ability] to get back in the team. But my situation is not very comfortable on the bench."
Gilberto, who joined the Gunners in 2002, has a contract at the Emirates Stadium until June 2009.

Fab laughs off Barca link
Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas has denied that he is interested in a return to Spanish giants Barcelona
The 20-year-old was rested for the Gunners' 0-0 draw with Slavia Prague on Wednesday night - a result which confirmed the north Londoners' participation in the knock-out phase of Europe's elite club competition.
The talented midfielder took advantage of his break from the action to go and watch Barcelona play Rangers at the Nou Camp, and the press immediately linked him with a switch to the Catalans.
Fabregas began his career in the youth set-up at Barca but was quick to point out that he will not be rejoining the club any time soon.
He told DiarioSport: "I am very happy at Arsenal and I do not think about anything else other than continuing a good level in my team.
"I'm not here for anything else other than the good weather and see Barca play.
"I'm happy at Arsenal. It is the club that always has supported me. I feel very close to Arsenal and happy." |

Dad rules out Birmingham return for Arsenal's Bendtner
Nicklas Bendtner's Dad has ruled out the Arsenal striker returning to Birmingham City in January.
Bendtner hit 13-goals during his season-long loan to help Birmingham's assent back to the top flight, but his father, Thomas, has said he is not looking to return to the Midlandsand wants to establish himself in Arsene Wenger's plans instead.
"We know that Bruce would like to have Nick back and he also enjoyed his time at Birmingham very much, but he won'tgo on loan any more," Bendtner's father, who also acts as his representative, said.
"It was a very good year for him but it won't happen. I can promise you one thing, we will definitely not go on loan anywhere, that is for sure.
"I know that a club like Inter has been trying to switch him for Adriano, but Arsenal is not interested, so basically that is the situation."
Thomas added: "I'm sure that Wenger will give Nick the chance, he is only 19 years old so he will come, no doubt about it.
"We are completely on top of his situation and Adebayor is not long term, somewhere down the line he will get injured and then it will be Nick's turn, so I'm full of confidence on that." |

Reading's Sonko reveals family connection with Arsenal fullback Sagna
November 08, 2007
Reading defender Ibrahima Sonko has revealed he's only recently discovered he's related to Arsenal fullback Bacary Sagna.
Though they were both brought in up France, they are of Senegalese descent and Sonko insists they are related - even if he doesn't know how. "There are a lot of French connections at Arsenal and my mother says Sagna is my cousin," explained Sonko, 26, to the Reading Chronicle. "I'm not sure if it's through my mother or father's side and I only found out recently. When I told my brother he said he already knew. But I've never met or spoken to him and, believe me, it was a surprise when I found out." One of the main reasons their paths have never crossed is because Sonko comes from an enormous family. "I have no idea how many cousins I have," said the defender who was born in the Senegal city of Bignola. "I knew I had a cousin somewhere called Sagna. So I asked my mother if it was the one who plays for Arsenal and she said it was. "In fact, I've also got another cousin called Sagna who was on trial at Barnet recently. Now he's definitely my cousin, but my brother has been telling me the Arsenal one is my cousin too. He said to trust him and that we are definitely related. "I've spoken to my parents about it and I've told them I will say hello. Apparently he knows about me as well and I guess we'll find out more on Monday."

Fabregas: Special Bond Our Secret
Cesc Fabregas believes that it is the great atmosphere in the dressing room that is behind the team's success.
Arsenal are currently leading the Premiership, and have already qualified for the knock-out stages of the Champions League, and look to be on their way towards ending the run of two trophy-less seasons.
All that after they lost skipper Thierry Henry in the summer, and were written off by one and almist all.
揟he key to our success is the bond that exists in the dressing room," he said.
"Our unity is fundamental to achieve good results and play good football.
"We are all committed to each other and that is very important.
"Only a team as compact as this can go 18 games unbeaten. |

Arsenal boss speaks out on managing England, stupid FIFA regulations
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will never manage England. Nothing shocking there. His reasoning is simple - he's French.I manage in England and I hope I can help English football but thenational team should be managed by an English guy. If I'm manager of England and I play France, which anthem do I sing?
Plus, I can't imagine Wenger ever wanting to work within the constraints of a national team job. As manager of Arsenal, he can go and pick whoever he wants (and can affordand attract) and that allows him to design a team around his plans.
This can't happen as a national team coach. Just ask Sven-Goran Eriksson about it.
Of course, FIFA is trying to make that job a little bit harder withtheir silly proposals about how many domestic players should be on aside.
I find them utter rubbish. I think that sport is just because it rewards the best. You could be my son, but if you're not good enough, then you don't play at Arsenal.
