Being Captain Is Wonderful - Gallas
William Gallas is relishing being the captain of Arsenal, and the responsibility that comes with it. Life has come around for William Gallas. From beign a player sitting on the bench at Chelsea, or playing left back, he is now the skipper of Arsenal and leading the team on the pitch.
"Being captain at Arsenal, I am directly involved in some talks with the coach and the officials," he told France Football.
"Before, I used to keep to myself. But I like those new responsibilities.
"I really have fun with the talks I have with Arsene Wenger. Would I like to become French team captain one day? Of course.
"Last year I know why I got injured - I had a too high pace of life compared to what is needed nowadays."
"I was training in North of London, and I lived in the South, and there was the birth of my son.
"I didn't have a good organisation. But now it is settled. That is why I got injured."
The Frenchman has veen in great form this season, and has formed a formidable defensive partnership with Kolo Toure even as Arsenal run riot at the other end of the pitch. |

Arsenal boss Wenger: England failure left me choked
November 22, 2007
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says he was "choked" by England's Euro2008 failure.
"I don't think McClaren should have been sacked for his lack of competence but, in this environment, it is impossible," said Wenger. "What I don't like is the fact that, the next morning, he is sacrificed. Let's assess the situation for two weeks. "The FA need deep thinking for what happened and to find solutions. They can't now just appoint a new coach and think England will win the World Cup in 2010. "But don't slaughter the players because the England national team has good players." He added: "I have been in England for 11 years and I went to bed very sad and choked on Wednesday night." Yet Wenger insists he is not interested in leading the Three Lions. He said: "If I was English then of course - but I am not so it is a 'no'. "That is in line with what I have always said. The England manager should be English. The problem for me is McClaren was a competent guy but he has never been completely accepted in England. "He had the qualities needed to do the job well. You could feel there was always a reluctance for him. "He needed a positive experience to convince everybody he had the qualities to do the job."

Ex-Arsenal skipper Vieira: Wenger for England
November 22, 2007
Former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira says Arsene Wenger is the man to lead England.
Inter Milan midfielder Vieira said: "You need someone with a big character, experience and a knowledge of English football and English players. "Arsenal fans won't be happy but I think Arsene Wenger would be a good choice. He really knows the English game."

Denilson and Diarra set to start against Wigan?
With Fabregas, Flamini, Gilberto and Diaby all missing from our central midfield this weekend, Carling Cup regulars Denilson and Diaby are set to be handed rare Premier League starts -indeed for Diarra it will mean a full Premier League debut. Robin van Persie is still out, whilst Aleksandr Hleb is an unfortunate addition to a lengthening list of absentees. I really hate internationals.
One thing working in our favour on Saturday is that Steve Bruce will not yet be in charge of Wigan, so they hopefully won抰 have the buzz about them that a new manager can bring, and will instead be serving up the kind of insipid performance that summed up Chris Hutchings |

Match Preview - Wigan (h) - Premier League Date: 23 Nov 2007
By James Poplett A rather untraumatic November so far leads us to our lasthome game for four matches. Wigan have lost seven games in a row, including such formidable opposition as Reading, Birmingham and Spurs.They抳e managed one point from the last nine games, and are yet to winaway from home. As far as home bankers go, this is up there with Derby, and a win is essential. However, eleven men behind the ball from theoff, with time wasting from the first minute, is a certainty. Hopefullythe curse of playing a team with a new manager won抰 strike. On the offchance that Bolton get a result against Manchester United, we couldincrease the gap.
This is the last relatively straight forward game we play in theleague before we take on Aston Villa away, Middlesbrough away,Newcastle away, Chelsea at home, Spurs at home, Portsmouth away,Everton away and West Ham at home, taking us into the new year. WithChampions League and Carling Cup fixtures dotted around to fill in thefew gaps. If we come out of this period still top of the league then Ithink we抣l all start to believe we抮e capable of staying the course.
Statistics
We抳e played Wigan six times in recent years, winning every gameapart from the away tie of the Carling Cup semi final in 2006, which wewent on to lose on away goals.
Team News
As expected we return from the international break with a hospitalfull of injured players. Hleb is the worst casualty, who will miss thenext month. Which wouldn抰 be too bad, if we didn抰 play Wigan,Sevilla, Villa, Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Steau Bucharest and Chelseain that period. Diaby is out for a similar time period, which means ourflanks will be Rosicky and Walcott/Eboue for all those games mentioned. We need Rosicky to manage three games in a row without getting injuredmore than ever. I抎 rather see Walcott starting most of these games. This is the first proper chance he抯 had to get a run in the team, andafter two excellent performances for the England U21s, he seems readyfor it. Mathieu Flamini is the other casualty of the internationals, but he should be back for the Villa game next weekend. Van Persiehasn抰 yet recovered from his injury, he also might be in the squadnext weekend. Fabregas is suspended for one game after his comedyyellow card against Reading. Senderos is back fit, will probably be onthe bench.
We simply don抰 have the personnel to continue playing 4-5-1. Withjust the two central midfielders available to play (Song doesn抰count), and not being able to move Rosicky into the middle because he抯the only fit left sided player we have (Eduardo isn抰 a left winger),we抮e forced back to 4-4-2, which against a team like Wigan will benecessary anyway. Only two possible lineups for this match, the onebelow, or the same but with Walcott upfront and Eboue on the right.
Subs: Lehmann, Senderos, Song, Eboue, Bendtner.

Wenger Confident In Eduardo
Arsene Wenger is convinced Croatian striker Eduardo da Silva will have a positive effect on Arsenal's season in the latter half of the campaign.
The Gunners boss believes the Brazilian-born forward will have received a big confidence boost from his country's qualification for Euro 2008 and says that will help him at Arsenal.
Eduardo was injured at the start of the season and has only made seven starts since his move from Dinamo Zagreb in the summer.
Although the 24-year-old is yet to score a league goal Wenger thinks the Brazilian is adjusting well to his move to London having netted in the Champions League and Carling Cup.
He said: "We have said we have to be patient but it will come for Eduardo. He has a good attitude and works hard but he has to adapt physically."
Eduardo helped create Croatia's second goal against England as they ended the homeside's chances of joining them in Austria and Switzerland on Wednesday night.
Wenger added: "I think this confidence will help him at Arsenal. He now knows he will go to Euro 2008. He is now a player who counts in Europe. He is at a big club so that should boost his confidence.
"I am keeping my confidence for the second part of the season. I see him as a striker, although he can play wide as well, I do see him as a central player."
Eduardo is in the Gunners' squad to face Wigan today and could start up front alongside Emanuel Adebayor because Robin van Persie is still not back from injury.

Gilberto tempted by Juventus move
Gilberto Silva has said he would be interested in a move to Juventus as he struggles to get into Arsenal's current line-up.
The Brazil midfielder, 31, started only three of Arsenal's first 12 Premier League matches, with Arsene Wenger preferring the combination of Cesc Fabregas and Mathieu Flamini in the middle.
He now appears to see his future away from north London, and said:"Juventus are a prestigious club. They have overcome the problems that forced them to come back from Serie B (Juve were relegated as punishment for their part in a match-fixing scandal).
"I would gladly move to Turin. But their directors should know that I donot want to go to war with Arsenal, so if they want me they should talk to my club.
"I feel disposed towards moving to Italy. I like Serie A, despite the recent crowd trouble."
