Are Arsenal losing too many stars?

So far this summer Arsenal have lost Bergkamp, Campbell and Pires. The Cole saga is rumbling on but it seems almost certain that Cashley will be off. And then there are the claims and denials that Reyes is wanted by - and wants to go to - Real Madrid.

Bergkamp and Pires were planned and expected. I've no problem with them. Campbell was a bit of a surprise as, although we all know he's been a bit 'distracted' this season, he's still a quality player (could someone that good really end up at Portsmouth?).

But Chavley and Reyes are not players Wenger wants to be losing. The problem in left-back is that the replacements are out injured leaving us exposed for the start of the season. Less of an issue with Reyes as we have more potential cover.

But Reyes plays an important part in the team as his performace in tonight's friendly showed.

I know we've brought Rosicky and Wenger is a magician with young talent, but I have to admit to being slightly worried going into the new campaign. I don't want him doing a Chelsea and over-paying for half-a-dozen players but I'm not convinced Wenger is happy with the loss of personnel this summer.

Reyes again denies interest in Real Madrid

Jose Antonio Reyes has once again denied that he is looking to move to Real Madrid.

Over the weekend, the Arsenal striker had to refute reports that he was after a transfer to the Bernabeu club. The story resurfaced in the media this morning.

boreham hood 0 - 4 arsenal youth team

Fran Merida marked his first appearance on English soil with a goal to remember as a youthful Arsenal XI eased to victory at Boreham Wood.

The young Spaniard fired a swerving effort into the roof of the net to provide a sizable crowd with some decent Friday night entertainment. The last teenage midfielder to arrive at Arsenal from Spain was Cesc Fabregas; don't be surprised to hear Merida's name quite a lot in the years to come.

Fran Merida scored the goal of the game but Arturo Lupoli was the star of the show. The Italian striker showed he is as lethal as ever in front of goal with two trademark finishes which opened and completed the scoring. Lupoli also provided assists for Merida and Nacer Barazite to give the visitors a strangehold which they never relinquished.

..That ended the game as a contest but it remained eminently watchable. Bangura attempted a cheeky chip which Mannone managed to grab, and substitute Marc Elston converted Lupoli's perfect pass only to see the linesman's flag cut short his celebrations.

Then Lupoli, the outstanding player on show, rounded off a positive night for Arsenal's youngsters with a thumping left-footed finish in the final minute. It was no more than the impressive Italian deserved.
