97/99 - Wenger's First Full Season
The FA Premier League 1997-98 season saw Arsenal lift their first league title since 1991, and also become only the second team to win the 'double' of the FA Cup and league title twice. It was their first full season under French manager Ars鑞e Wenger, who became the first foreign manager to win the Premiership.
In Ars鑞e Wenger's first full season as manager, Arsenalwent on a storming run during the final three months of the season totake advantage of having three games in hand over leaders Manchester Unitedand clinch the Premiership title after overhauling United's 11-pointlead. Two weeks after being crowned champions, Arsenal went to Wembley and beat Newcastle United 2-0 to clinch the FA Cup.In doing so, they became the only team to match Manchester United'srecord of two "doubles", though it was achieved with an entirelydifferent squad to the Arsenal side that had been double winners in1971.
98/99 - Double Trouble
Arsenal yet again entered themselves in the record books by becoming the only side during the whole season not to lose a match away from home and score in all 38 matches. Instrumental to the success was striker, Thierry Henry who netted in 24 goals during the season and defender Sol Campbell who joined the club from arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur on a free deal.
The Gunners suffered only three defeats, - Charlton, Leeds and Newcastle, all coming from home. It also started a thirty match unbeaten run, which eventually ended in October 2002 against Everton. Arsenal also won the FA Cup, after defeating Chelsea by two goals to nil. Ray Parlour and Freddie Ljungberg were both on the scoresheet which ended Arsenal's four year double drought.
Captain, Tony Adams and fellow defender Lee Dixon announced their retirement at the end of the season. Wenger placed Patrick Vieira as captain.
03/04 - The Invincible
Arsene Wenger described it as immortality,and he wasn't far wrong. Arsenal completed an entire Premiership seasonwithout losing a single game. Their final record read 26 wins, 12 drawsand 0 defeats. Only twice before had any English club completed aprofessional league campaign unbeaten, since the Football League was first founded in 1888. Striker Thierry Henry was undoubtedly the finest player in a brilliant side, though the likes of Robert Pires and Patrick Vieira earned similar plaudits for their own excellent performances.
But it hadn't always looked like this. Until February, Arsenal hadbounced between first and third place, as the three-way race with Chelsea and Manchester United seemed unpredictable. At one stage before Christmas,the gap had been so tight that Arsenal and Chelsea had the highestpoints total in the division, as well as an identical goal differenceand number of goals scored, which meant that Arsenal led the table asthey began with an 'A'. But Arsenal got even better in the second halfof the season while their rivals faltered, and the title was wrapped upbefore the end of April.
Early April, however, saw two successive games that threatened to derail Arsenal's perfect season. First they were eliminated from the FA Cup by Manchester United in the semi-final, and then they were knocked out of the European Cup by Chelsea in the quarter-final. But a 4-2 victory over Liverpool reinforced Arsenal's form. Arsenal broke Manchester United's record of most points in a season finishing with an unbeatable 90. Arsenal were very strong right from the start from the season. They were freeflowing and with players like Robert Pires, Patrick Vieira, and scoring goalscorer Thierry Henry in the Template:Squad Arsenal looked unstoppable.

aku pun ingat lagi....lepas miss penalty tu, keown, lauren, ashley cole sume lari2 ejek RVN. pastu gado besar..keown n vieira kena ban 5 match...hahahha...tapi yg match tu memang nasib arsenal baik gile la...sebab bagi aku,dalam match tu man utd yang lagi power...
arsenal nye attacking mase tu memang laju...counter attack lagi la syok tengok..mula2 nengok henry sorang je yang kat depan. pastu tetibe je henry akan pass silang kat ruang kosong yg xde orang, tapi tup tup je tengok dah ade pires or bergkamp. pastu tengok sebelah die ade lagi si ljungberg, wiltord etc.pastu gol....syiokkk...!!! |
