Toure - Gallas will rank alongside Vieira and Adams

Kolo Toure believes William Gallas will be considered one of Arsenal’s great captains alongside the likes of Tony Adams and Patrick Vieira.
On Saturday, the French centre back steered home a near-post header seven minutes from time to break Wigan’s stubborn resistance and set-up a 2-0 win. In celebration he ran to the crowd pointing at his captain’s armband. It was the second successive home game in which Gallas had popped up with a crucial late goal.
The 30-year-old may have been a surprise choice to replace Thierry Henry as captain in August but, according to his central defensive partner, he is leading by the deed as well as word.
"William gives everything for the Club,” said Toure. “Both on and off the pitch, William is a really good captain. He is loud in the dressing room and he has a big heart. Everything he says and does is for the team and the Club. That is the most important quality in a captain.
"William seems to enjoy the responsibility. He is a really mature player, he has played in a World Cup Final and he is 30. Age and experience really helps as a captain. He leads by example.
"When Titi was here, he was outstanding,” Toure went on. “ atrick was strong and Tony as well. I have played under some fantastic captains and you just follow them.
"I think he deserves to be mentioned among those names as captain because he is such a strong figure. He has great maturity in a really young team so that's so important.
"The young players, when he says something, they really listen to him because they respect him.”
Nampaknye Henry x de yg respek...

Arsenal eyeing Cruzeiro keeper Fabio
November 24, 2007

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is chasing Cruzeiro goalkeeper Fabio.
The Mirror says Fabio has an Italian passport through his family ties and is catching the eye of European scouts, including the Gunners. Fabio said: "I've a deal signed with Cruzeiro until the end of this year but after that I would like to move to Europe and if that happens in January then that is up to the clubs involved. "I've heard of the interest from Wenger but it is too soon to think or talk about it too much. "But I'm prepared to make the big jump to European football as that's a great challenge for any player."

Arsenal boss Wenger full of praise for Flamini
November 24, 2007

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has hailed the attitude of midfielder Mathieu Flamini after the Frenchman won his first cap last week. "He got his first cap and we are all happy for him," Wenger told arsenal.com. "Since the begin of the season you judge Flamini on performances and you cannot fault him on that. He has done a job in every area of his game, defensively, tactically as a team player, and we know as well he can turn up and score a goal. "I tried to be fair with him [when he considered his future]. I could not stop him from leaving but told him if he stays, he knew the rules. "We can only respect that mental strength and that character and to show on the pitch how good you are. It gives you confidence when you are 23 years old like Mathieu."

Wenger to rest Arsenal players for Sevilla clash
November 26, 2007

Arsenal chief Arsene Wenger has promised to rest several of his regular first-team players for Tuesday's Champions League Group H tie against Sevilla. The Gunners have already qualified for the last 16 of the competition even though Wenger made a rash of changes for his side's goalless draw at Slavia Prague in their last encounter.
Victory in Spain would ensure Arsenal finish at the top of the group, but Wenger insisted: "Some players will be rested for Sevilla. "I will rotate and it will be maybe a similar side to that against Slavia." |

Arsenal's Eduardo key to beating Chelsea for Modric
November 26, 2007

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is convinced they can beat Chelsea for Dinamo Zagreb star Luka Modric.
Both London giants are going head-to-head for the Croatia international, who wants a move to the Premiership in January. The Daily Star Sunday says Wenger can beat Chelsea to Modric - thanks to the presence of his good friend and ex-Dinamo teammate Eduardo da Silva at Emirates stadium.
memang fantastic kalau dapat beli Modric ni, dia ni ala-ala Nedved dan Rosicky.. |

Wenger Out In Defence Of Benitez
Arsene Wenger has come out in defence of the work Rafa Benitez has done at Liverpool, and spoken out against the tendency to sack coaches a little to soon.
Internal Differences
The Frenchman has hit out at the politics in football, and at off the pitch issues interfering with managers' careers, particularly in the wake of some recent happenings in the Premiership.
Focussing exclusively on the situation at Liverpool, he suggested that Rafa Benitez should be backed by the club's American owners, and allowed to do what he himself, and Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, have done.
"Maybe there is an analysis to do about politics in the modern game," he said.
"Ben韙ez has done remarkably well and certainly what's happening at Liverpool is not down to the sport or to results, it's down to other, internal differences.
"Apparently, there are differences. I have always had the support of my board and I think Ferguson had that as well, and we are the longest-serving managers in the league. There's no secret in it."
Internal differences have already cost Jose Mourinho his job earlier this season, and there are suggestions that Rafa could also find himself on the outer unless things improve.
Foreign Ownership To Blame?
Wenger also had a little dig at foreign owners who come in but know little about the way football works.
"They [the Arsenal board] understand that there is no success without that but, of course, you need a bit of experience to understand that and I'm not sure that everybody just coming and buying [clubs] understands that," he said. "The only thing I can say is that I have had the freedom to work since I arrived at Arsenal. I can't remember my board saying 'No' to me." Wenger and Benitez have seldom seen eye to eye over the past twelve months, but these words will most certainly be music to the Spaniard's ears. Neal Glew, Goal.com |

Keown In Awe Of Fab Fabregas
Martin Keown has showered praise on Gunners shooting star Cesc Fabregas. The legendary Arsenal defender always knew that the Spanish prodigy had what it takes to become one of the world抯 premiere playmakers, but has been struck by the fact that Fabregas has so quickly added goal-scoring and maturity to his game.
"Cesc is the orchestrator of everything. He's developed into an outstanding player and looks like a natural winner," said Keown.
"The goals he has been scoring this season are the icing on the cake. He was fairly prolific as a kid and it was a mystery last season why he struggled to find the back of the net.
揑 was told that he needed to calm down in front of goal and he has managed that. He now looks very calm when he has a chance, |

CL Preview: Sevilla - Arsenal
Although Arsenal have already clinched their place in the first knockout round of the Champions League, following their goalless draw in Prague three weeks ago against Slavia, they have not yet made certain of first place in Group H. As well as trying to top the Group, which give them a seeding advantage in the draw for the first knockout round, Arsenal will also be looking to maintain their unbeaten record in this year's competition - and to keep a seventh successive Champions League clean-sheet.
The Gunners are without captain William Gallas but Philippe Senderos has recovered from a back injury and will deputise for the centre-back. Midfield trio Cesc Fabregas, Mathieu Flamini and Gilberto are back after missing Saturday's Wigan game. Striker Emmanuel Adebayor and full-back Gael Clichy did not travel to Spain.
Squad: Almunia, Sagna, Fabregas, Toure, Senderos, Rosicky, Diarra, Eduardo, Denilson, Flamini, Song, Gilberto, Bendtner, Eboue, Traore, Hoyte, Walcott, Lehmann.
Last Starting XI (v Wigan): Almunia, Sagna, Tour |

Walcott In, Gallas, Clichy, Adebayor Out Of Sevilla Clash
Ars鑞e Wenger has named several youngsters in the Arsenal squad for the trip to Sevilla in the Champions League and has left Gael Clichy, William Gallas and Emmanuel Adebayor behind. The Gunners boss was clear about his preparations to rotate his side for the game in Spain on Tuesday and will give some of his shadow players a run-out.
Theor Walcott is included, despite being stretchered off in the game against Wigan Athletic at the weekend, but he will have to undergo a late fitness test. Alex Song, Nicklas Bendtner and Justin Hoyte are also named as the manager hopes to give them more experience at the highest level. Arsenal only need a point to qualify for the next stage, but Wenger is keen to clinch victory in the S醤chez Pizju醤 as he wants to finish top of Group H. |
