WITH eight published novels under her belt, you may think that novelist Anita Aruszi is an expert at spinning tales.
A school teacher, Anita whose real name is Mazni Aznita Awang, started writing short stories, poetry and drama while in school.

She kept it up during her days in Universiti Malaya where she won first prize in an essay-writing competition in 2004.

She is also actively involved in literary activities in her capacity asa teacher under the Terengganu State Education Department. But Anitafeels she still has more to learn and explore and is turning to theInternet to build up her portfolio as a writer. “I’ve been fortunate tohave renowned publishers such as Buku Prima, Kaki Novel and FajarPakeer publish my works.

My first fantasy/science-fiction manuscript is being evaluated and Iexpect the novel to be out soon,” says Anita whose works range fromromance and comedy to thrillers. She tests her storyline by posting herideas in her blogs which are free for all to read and comment on. Forexample, to obtain research materials for her science-fiction stories,Anita writes e-novels that are featured in a blog called Gedung Novella.

It is linked to Rumah Fantasi, another blog, that serves as a platform for writers specialising in the science fiction genre.

  Members share their interest and discuss ideas at Rumah Fantasi. “Early in my writing career, I used e-novels and the online medium to post my stories which I felt were not up to mark.

However, the response was wonderful.

Many of my readers took the time to correct my grammar and sentence construction and provide factual details.

Some even suggested ways on how the plot could be improved.

I learnt a lot and my confidence grew,” says Anita.

  “These e-novels have also helped boost my book sales,” she says. Meanwhile, novelist Hanni Ramsul developed a penchant for writing during her school days.

Known outside literary circles as Rohani Sulong, Hanni started writingfor a few close friends. Fate took a different turn for theTerengganu-born Hanni when a friend introduced her to Penulisan2u, aportal for budding writers.

  Encouraged by the number of written works posted on the portal, Hanni took the plunge and posted her stories.

She hasn’t looked back since. “When I started posting my work, I just wanted to see how readers would respond to them.

My first e-novel, Biarlah YM Berbicara received good response and was later published into a novel,” she says. “I just finished my second novel, Pergilah Air Mata which hit the bookstores in January.
