The DAP and their RBA like to compare Singapore vs Malaysia - specifically their 2015 GDP per capita (constant USD) of USD51,855 vs  USD10,876 respectively.

This is like comparing the GDP per capita of Kuala Lumpur (KL) of RM94,722  (2015) is 2.25 times higher compared to average Malaysia's RM37,104  - and then say Malaysia has failed.

It is also the same as saying that Washington DC is 4 times more successful than the state of Mississippi or Monaco is 4 times more successful than France since the difference in GDP per capita for both comparisons are 4 times difference.

RBA should realize that Malaysia's GDP per capita's growth between 2008 and 2015 have outperformed Singapore - meaning we are catching up, especially these few years where our GDP growth will exceed Singapore by a good margin.

Singapore's GDP per capita grew 21.58% between 2008 to 2015 (helped by a big 15% GDP growth in 2009-2010 as foreign funds flocked there to escape the US great recession) and Malaysia achieved 22.73% growth.

While Malaysia's GDP per Capita growth have exceeded Singapore, RBA should be more worried that the DAP-led Penang's GDP growth was far behind Kuala Lumpur.

During this 2008 to 2015 period, Kuala Lumpur's GDP per capita jumped 111.4% from RM44,801 to RM94,722 but Penang only grew 44.5% from RM31,039 to RM44,847.

Penang registered the lowest (according to Gerakan) or 4th lowest (according to LGE) GDP per capita growth among all 14 states and territories for 2008 to 2015.

Going by the same logic as them, shouldn't the DAP and RBA train their guns at DAP Penang and Lim Guan Eng instead and call him an utter failure due to mismanagement, corruption and being useless?

A better way to compare Singapore to Malaysia is using the GDP Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) measure which strips out currency effects to compare standard of living.

In 2015, Malaysia's GDP (PPP) was at Int$26,211 and ranked at 47th place just above Russia while Singapore was at Int$85,382 ranked 3rd.

Remember that KL's GDP per capita is 2.55 time higher than Malaysia.

Using the same PPP ratio , Kuala Lumpur's GDP per capita (PPP) would be Int$66,914 - still 22% below Singapore but would rank 8th highest in the world - just behind Qatar, Luxembourg, Singapore, Brunei, Kuwait, Norway and the UAE.

This is why you see that the average daily lifestyle of those staying in Kuala Lumpur is not much different when compared to Singapore.

And this is not even fair on Kuala Lumpur as taxes collected in KL are spent to subsidize development in other parts of Malaysia whereas taxes in Singapore are spent developing Singapore only.

So, please don't keep comparing the small city-state of Singapore with the entire Malaysia.

Better that you compare Kuala Lumpur with Penang and ask why DAP have failed there.

a very good sharing you have here.... keep sharing.
me as a singaporean malay myself, would like to share what i sincerely feel as a malay singaporean.

some still make it to NUS/NTU/SMU but ofcourse with courses that maybe tidak layak dengan keputusan, its like 'take it or leave it'
some, their parents sampai habis duit jual rumah dan sebagainya hanya nak dapatkan tempat buat anak anak masuk 'course' yang selayak dan sepatutnya. fyi, those private uni... their fees are very high. approx ranging from SGD28k to SGD48k or more.

"Put aside the conversion rate, the salary package is really not that bad in KL. Currently, I am earning so much more as compared to the times when I was still working in Singapore. Furthermore, it is not a mandatory for me to contribute to CPF (known as EPF) in Malaysia. Certainly, I do not mind even if it is a must for me to make a contribution to EPF too. Unlike Singapore, EPF can be fully withdraw after reaching the age of 55. It will become part of my retirement fund."

The Central Provident Fund has for the first time delayed the announcement of an expected increase in mandatory minimum sum, which was traditionally due on every 1st of July. Singaporeans are not allowed to withdraw their CPF unless they meet the Minimum Sum, emigrate or when they become deceased. Most Singaporean elderly are unable to retire because of insufficient CPF funds, mainly caused by the low interest generated by the CPF.

It is understood that CPF funds pays interest rates as low as 2.5% to CPF account holders while Temasek Holdings borrowed the funds at the same low interest rates to invest in high returns and lucrative investments. Temasek Holdings will pocket the difference in profits and claimed to return the profits to the national reserve. Nobody knows the amount of national reserves Singapore have, not even the elected President

Criticisms of the husband and wife duo, Ho Ching and Lee Hsien Loong, of nepotism will result in defamation lawsuits. In 2015, online blogger Roy Ngerng was found guilty of defaming Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in a default judgment and was ordered to pay S$150,000.
