BEIJING: A Chinese man desperate to bring home a girlfriend for the Lunar New Year holiday crawled into the bed of a woman he had never met on a night train bound for his home town, according to a newspaper report.
The migrant worker in his 30s was arrested for sexual assault after the incident on the train travelling from Chongqing to Sichuan province, the Chongqing Daily reported.
The woman whose bed he sneaked into was a college student. She was in a bunk bed in the same cabin as the man when the incident took place on Tuesday, the article said.
The woman said she met him in the cabin for the first time earlier that day and he tried to flirt with her. She rejected his advances.
Later at about 2am when she was half sleep, he crawled into her bed and tried to kiss her, according to the woman.
When she tried to scream for help, the man forcefully covered her mouth with his hand before rolling back into his own bed, the report quoted the woman as saying.
She eventually managed to make her way out of the cabin by excusing herself to go to the bathroom.
She then reported the matter to officers on the train, who subdued the man, removed him from the carriage and handed him over to the authorities.
The man later said he was a migrant worker from Hubei province and that his family had been nagging him for years to bring home a girlfriend during the Lunar New Year holiday, the report said.
He will be detained for five days for sexual assault, according to the report.
