Fed Might Delay Rate Hikes to Narrow Down Balance Sheet

Several Fed officials have already confirmed that the central bank will be starting to cut down their initially very large-scale balance sheet during the latter part of 2017, although they refused as of yet to discuss further details regarding their plans to push through with increasing short-term interest rates next year. However, some economists are exhibiting their skepticism with regards to this particular move, saying that it is highly likely that the Fed’s measures of financial tightening might ultimately affect the Fed’s overall monetary policy and could translate to tighter economic policies within the country.

The European currency was kept intact below the pressured area against its U.S peer which would likely post further losses. Germany released a mixed data while exports and imports did not meet traders’ expectations. The strong figures of Trade Balance have given support for the EUR. On the other hand, the dovish remarks of ECB President, Draghi place pressure on the major.

The entire perspective showed moderate changes on Friday. The EUR/USD stayed near the neutral spot during the morning session as its trades close to the lower end of its weekly narrow range. Moreover, the sellers came in active in the first part of the day pulling the spot downwards. The major cut through the level 1.0650 touching 1.0630 amid late trading of Europe.

Renewed selling pressure occurred prior the New York open. Sellers were able to direct the price through the points 1.0610-1.0600.

The price settled under the moving averages as registered in the 4-hour chart, 100 and 50-EMAs turned lower while 200-EMA continued to heads up.

Resistance reached 1.0650 area, support highlighted 1.0600 region.

The MACD histogram softened which signaled sellers’ strength. RSI headed southwards confirming a current downtrend.

The spot is expected to resume a bearish tone within a short period of time. A break under 1.0600 is awaited as it may trigger for a lower support.

BOJ Plans to Exit its QE policy

Raising inflation rates is part of Bank of Japan’s options to stop its Quantitative Easing program according to BOJ’s governor Haruhiko Kuroda. This includes trimming of bonds bought in the past years to stimulate the economic growth. Although he said that it is too soon to say on the next move of BOJ.

Predicaments associated with easing of monetary policies that global central banks facilitated in the past years were brought up. However, Kuroda stated that it is not necessary for BOJ to change their policies since the 2 percent target has not yet been achieved.

On the other hand, most of the analysts predicted that BOJ would ease its stimulus program as early as second half of the year where inflation would gain momentum. They are sanguine that consumer prices will slowly rise towards the 2 percent inflation target. Yet, profit gains are moving in a sluggish manner despite stricter policies in the labor market.

Pence Visits Japan to boost U.S. Trade Ties
The U.S. Vice President Mike Pence has arrived in Tokyo Japan to meet with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to confer about the security concerns with the rising concerns with North Korea. At the same time, trading U.S. goods will also talk about to open more opportunities and engage more infrastructure investments. Although this has already been discussed when U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross met Japan's trade minister, Hiroshige Seko.

This trip is focused on enhancing U.S. trade ties with Japan despite the Trump administration broke off the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade pact in 12 countries. Trump pledged to renegotiate the current two-way Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and concentrate on bilateral deals but Japan fears that this would open politically sensitive topics.

Sterling Skyrocketed while Stocks Crumbled
Sterling was in a spotlight during the Asian trading on Wednesday after Theresa May called for a snap election on June 8 that could give a positive outcome after Brexit. The currency surged more than a six-month high against the greenback while the U.S. dollar recovered a little in the Asian session with a rise of 0.15 percent against other currencies.

Safe-haven bonds continued to strengthen prior to the French presidential election despite raising tension between the U.S. and the North Korea. The dollar has weakened following a drop in U.S. bond yields to a five-month low as much as 2.17 percent.

Equities were pushed to the sidelines as futures are welcomed with losses upon the opening of German and U.K. stock market.

Japan’s nikkei steadied for quite some time but Shanghai.SSEC extended its losses with 1% drop. The Chinese market declined for four consecutive sessions because of tighter policies.

In the commodity market, gold was pulled down up to 0.4 percent to XAU=$1,287.10 an ounce while U.S. Brent crude oil prices dwindled by 16 cents at $54.73 a barrel.
