Ka Bee Cafe owner Chew Kean Ghee, 45, is no stranger to purchasing giant groupers. In 2014 the Penangite purchased a great catch weighing 200kg, worth RM11,000. This time around, the seafood restaurant owner has purchased a 150kg which is 1.8m (5-foot-long) in length, that was caught by the same fisherman, 43-year-old Tan Kah Seng in Pulau Kendi.
Giant groupers live in the deep sea and it's very difficult to encounter, so catching one would be considered a rare treat. Those who enjoy the treat say the fish's best part is not the flesh, but the skin as it tastes like sea cucumbers.
Chew says he hopes his customers would be delighted to enjoy the lucky catch.
“I want to satisfy my customers in the best way possible by serving them this fish for a price as low as RM17 per serving.
“This will be a great dish to be enjoyed either individually or in groups,” he told NST, adding that it would however take hours to cut and clean up the fish before serving it as a delicacy.

In 2014, his fish head bee hoon had increased in sales due to the giant catch, which led to Chew donating RM3,000 to buy 4,500 copies of The Star newspapers for students in three nearby Chinese primary schools to help them improve their English.
Similarly this year, Chew plans to donate part of his profits from his lucky catch to several primary schools in Penang.
