GEORGETOWN: A woman had her hand slashed as she was trying to fight off a robber when she was out jogging yesterday evening. In the 7.30pm incident, the 24-year-old victim was jogging alone at a track near The Light, when an armed foreign man accosted her. Northeast district police chief SAC Mior Faridalatrash Wahid said the man brandished a knife and searched the victim for valuables and as the victim was trying to fight off the robber, she sustained deep cuts on her hand and foot. One of the veins on her hand was severed. “The suspect managed to grab the victim’s mobile phone and he fled when he saw the injuries on the woman,” he said here today, adding that the victim was rushed to the Penang Hospital by members of the public and has been transferred to a private hospital here for surgery. Following the incident, police have arrested a 23-year-old Bangladeshi at a ‘rumah kongsi’ (worker’s quarters) near the jogging track and confiscated a knife. – BERNAMA
