First phase of new liquid terminal opened at Weifang Port in China

Aug 15 2017

The first phase of a new liquid terminal facility has been opened at Weifang Sime Darby Port, which is operated by Sime Darby Logistics in Shandong, China.

The newly opened facility features a maximum storage capacity of 406,000m³ and forms a part of the Weifang Sime Darby Liquid Terminal.

It is expected to provide the port with additional storage and usage facilities for bulk oil and chemicals.

The second phase of the terminal will include a maximum storage capacity of 91,000m³ and scheduled to be operational by October.

The third and final phase is currently under construction and will add 164,000m³ of capacity to the port.

It is expected to be completed by the first half of 2019.

Weifang Sime Darby Liquid Terminal vice-chairman Timothy Lee Chi Tim said: “The terminal is part of our CNY2.8bn ($420m) master expansion plan, which will put Weifang Sime Darby Port on the roadmap to achieving our aim of becoming a significant multi-purpose port in the Northeast Asian region.

“The launch of our liquid terminals is timely to capture the growing market for crude and refined oil, as well as chemicals in China.

“These commodities have benefitted from the gradual liberalisation of import and export policies in China.”

Weifang Sime Darby Liquid Terminal is a joint venture (JV) company under equal ownership of Sime Darby Overseas (HK) (SDOHK) and Dragon Crown Group Holdings.

The JV is expected to construct, manage and operate all phases of Weifang Port's new liquid terminal facility.

Halal Industry Development Corp signs MoU with Weifang Sime Darby for halal port
Posted on 25 July 2017 - 02:00pm

PETALING JAYA: Halal Industry Development Corp (HDC), an agency under the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Weifang Sime Darby Port Co Ltd (WSD) to ensure that its port and industrial park in China meets halal standards.

WSD is a 99%-owned subsidiary of Sime Darby Bhd, a multinational conglomerate with businesses in the plantation, property, industrial equipment, motors and logistics sectors.

The collaboration will facilitate the penetration of Malaysian halal products into the One Belt One Road (OBOR) network for wider market reach in Northern and Western regions of China, as well as neighbouring countries.

WSD's close proximity to the OBOR network provides an added advantage to the "halal corridor" with links to Muslim regions in China, making it the gateway for import and export of halal products. As part of the MOU, HDC will share its expertise and offer training and consultancy services to WSD.

This joint effort is expected to benefit Malaysian exporters in expanding their halal businesses worldwide.

According to HDC CEO Datuk Seri Jamil Bidin, Malaysia's halal exports grew by 7.1% to RM42.18 billion in 2016. Total exports to China amounted RM5.4 billion and was featured as the largest export markets in 2016. Halal export is expected to grow 5 to 6% this year. Malaysia exports cosmetics & personal care, food & beverage, palm oil derivatives, pharmaceuticals, Halal ingredients and industrial chemicals to China.

The MoU was signed by Jamil, and WSD chairman Timothy Lee Chi Tim.

IHH Healthcare strengthens its foothold in China
Premium hospital operator building Shanghai facility as part of $1.2bn long-term investment

CK TAN, Nikkei staff writer

IHH officials and partners break ground for the Gleneagles Shanghai Hospital on Friday.

KUALA LUMPUR -- IHH Healthcare began construction Friday of a new hospital in Shanghai, as part of an 8 billion yuan ($1.2 billion) investment to turn China into its fifth key market.

The Kuala Lumpur and Singapore-listed premium hospital operator is building the 450-bed Gleneagles Shanghai to provide integrated health care for the Yangtze River Delta region.

When completed in 2020 with capital spending of 1.36 billion yuan, it will offer health care services in seven key specialties: cardiology, cardiac surgery, gastroenterology, urology, minimally invasive surgery, general surgery and internal medicine.

The hospital, located on 35,754 sq. meter site in Shanghai New Hongqiao International Medical Center, near an international airport, is a 70:30 joint venture with state-controlled Shanghai Hongxin Medical Investment Holding.

IHH's investment in China is carried out through 70.1%-owned Taikang Insurance Group. Beijing-based Taikang is also involved in asset management and early care. Both companies will jointly fund future projects in China in proportion to their shareholdings.

IHH, which is controlled by Malaysian state investment fund Khazanah Nasional, said the Shanghai hospital is a part of its long-term ambition to turn China into a key market after Malaysia, Singapore, Turkey and India.
