Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong's meeting with US President Donald Trump next week offers both leaders an opportunity to understand each other better, and build on an already solid relationship, analysts said.
The US enjoys a trade surplus of US$9.1 billion (S$12 billion) in goods and US$9.7 billion in services with Singapore. 
Mr Lee's Oct 21-26 official working visit also comes as Singapore is poised to be Asean chair and Mr Trump prepares to make his first trip to Asia next month.
"Singapore's position as a regional voice is amplified while occupying the Asean chair," Ms Shannon Hayden, associate director of the Southeast Asia Programme at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies, said in an e-mail.
"Ensuring clear US-Singapore communications during the coming year will be essential, particularly during discussions on North Korea, the South China Sea, and trade," she added.
Mr Lee's visit will offer a perspective from a friendly region on the role and opportunities for the US.

Singapore to extend SAF contribution to counter-ISIS coalition, says PM Lee Hsien Loong at meeting with President Trump
Singapore will extend to next year its existing deployment of Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) assets and personnel to the global coalition to defeat the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terror group, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said.
He gave this commitment to US President Donald Trump during their meetings at the White House on Monday (Oct 23, US time), Mr Lee said at a joint press conference after both leaders met.
Singapore and the United States have strong defence ties, Mr Lee said, adding that Singapore supports the US military presence in the region, and has hosted US Air Force and US Navy aircraft and ships on rotational deployments since 1990.
He also thanked the US for hosting over 1,000 Singapore military personnel each year in training detachments - in Luke Air Force Base in Phoenix and Marana, Arizona, at Mountain Home Air Base in Idaho, at Grand Prairie, Texas, and in Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
Republic of Singapore Air Forces (RSAF) Chinooks and military personnel in Grand Prairie were deployed to assist in disaster relief operations in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.
"We are glad to have been of help," PM Lee said.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and President Donald Trump on Monday (Oct 23, US time) witnessed the signing of an agreement between Singapore Airlines and aircraft manufacturer Boeing to buy 39 aeroplanes, worth close to US$14 billion (S$19 billion).
Singapore Airlines CEO Goh Choon Phong and Boeing president and CEO Kevin McAllister signed the deal for SIA to buy 20 Boeing 777-9s and 19 787-10 Dreamliners over the next decade.
Mr Trump said the deal would create some 70,000 American jobs.
PM Lee noted that on the economic front, the US is an important partner for many countries in Asia, just as Asia as a whole is an important economic partner for the US.
“Singapore is a small country - we’re just 5.5 million - but we have sizeable investments and trade with the US, which continue to grow,” he added.
It is the second largest Asian investor in the US, with over US$70 billion in stock investments. Total trade in goods and services amounted to more than US$68 billion last year.
The US has consistently run a trade surplus with Singapore, which stood at over $18 billion in 2016.
