Landslide at the foothill of Mount Kinabalu expected; after effects of 2015 earthquake
KOTA KINABALU: The landslide on Mount Kinabalu foothill is expected, especially after the tragic earthquake two years ago.
Sabah Parks director Dr Jamili Nais, when contacted, said they were aware of the incident.
"Rockslide like this is to be expected from time to time.
"It is part of the stabilization process of Mount Kinabalu after the earthquake (in 2015).
"This stabilisation process will take years," he told New Straits Times.
The massive landslide, comprising of soil and boulders, triggered panic among villagers residing at the mountain foothill in the highland district of Kundasang.
According to the state civil defence department, the landslide was located at Ulu Sungai Mesilou 2 in Kampung Mesilou.
Civil defence personnel, who rushed to the village after being alerted at 3.45pm, observed that the landslide occurred at the hillside at a location of about 1.5km away from the old MNR Resort, Mesilou Kinabalu Park Station.
The resort was shut down after it was damaged in the earthquake, which killed 18 climbers on the mountain on June 5, 2015.

Erk. This sounds serious. Kenapa mcm tak pernah dgr pasal ni? I wasn't aware at all padahal hari2 ...
sejak sabtu minggu lalu.
the worst masa deepavali tu, start jam 2petang.
ai ingat masa ni sebab ai tengah drive ke hospital bila tiba2 nampak pusaran angin kecil depan mata.
tuhan sajalah yg tau perasaan masa tu.
and masa balik dr hospital tu, dah banyak dah pokok tunbang sana sini.
hari ni, dah tenang sikit lepas satu ribut yang agak kuat jam 1.30 tengahari tadi (kesian atap kandang kucing ai terbang, habis lenjun makanan kucing disiramnair hujan.)
malam ni pun cuaca ok berbanding sebelum ni.
hujan kuat hingga saya tidur boleh trrbangun sebab tingkap seolah2 di pukul dengan kuat, padahal effect angin. |
