KUALA LUMPUR: Two women were duped into paying RM14,000 to a man who promised them lucrative returns in doing vice activities.
One of them lost money that was meant to be her college fees to a man called “Mike” she first communicated via Whatsapp in November last year.
The two women were each promised a salary of RM6,000 each time they serve a client but were told to pay a deposit before they could start work.
The student who lost her college fees, Amy, 22, claimed she paid a total of RM12,000 via a local bank as payment for the “job”.
“I made five transactions to the bank account, and my friend also deposited RM2,000 for the job,” she said when met at the MCA Public Services and Complaints Bureau.
Amy told she suspected something was amiss when ‘Mike” asked for more money.
“I called him to ask about my money back but he hung up on me. I have been trying to call him again but to no avail. Now, I need to pay back RM10,000 to my friends I owed,” she said.
The MCA Public Services and Complaints Bureau chief Datuk Seri Michael Chong said the suspect appears to have hoodwinked many people.
"We urge victims to report if they were duped in such a manner,” he said.
