Pakatan should not impose new tax on imported cars, says MCA Youth

PETALING JAYA: MCA Youth  has hit out at the Pakatan Harapan government for imposing a new tax on imported used cars.

Its chief Nicole Wong questioned if the move was made to protect the proposed third national car.

"The government must come clean on whether this new tax scheme is the first step taken to protect the (proposed) third national car project, just like how it was with Proton and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad during his tenure as the fourth Prime Minister," she said in a statement Saturday (April 20).

She said imposing a tax of between 20% and 39% on imported used cars effective March 1, as reported, would only discourage Malaysians from buying foreign-made cars.

"Without a doubt, this move will further drive foreign investments away from Malaysia," she said, chiding the government for denying the people the right to own foreign-made cars.

She also took a swipe at the Pakatan Harapan government for backtracking on its promise not to abuse public funds.

Noting that Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof had announced an allocation of RM20mil to develop the prototype for the third national car, Wong questioned why the authorities were bent on fulfilling the personal ambition of the Prime Minister despite public objections.

"Amidst an ailing economy and the Malaysian ringgit being labelled as 'Asia’s worst performer' by Bloomberg, the government should be taking measures to revitalise our economy and attract foreign investors again instead of obsessing over the aspirations of an individual," she said.

Hahaha.. apa yg takut sgt dengan kereta terpakai..proton 3 baru fight pun tak buli kah?

benda dia nak buat bertentangan dengan janji pilihanraya... ingat orang akan bandingkan dengan pemerintahan dulu dan modal kempen lama tak selamanya boleh pakai. Ini tindakan yg merupakan suatu tekanan kpd rakyat yang sepatutnya tidak perlu pun dari kerajaan....
