KUALA LUMPUR: Police found an improvised explosive device (IED) in the compound of a house in Bukit Damansara Thursday evening.
City police chief Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said, however, that the bomb disposal unit found the explosive device to be "incomplete".

The find followed bomb threats aimed at KL Sentral and the Russian embassy in Jalan Ampang by someone who claimed to have hacked a Twitter account purportedly belonging to a Brazil-based marketing agency, Agencia iMais (@agenciaimais).
However, it could not be determined if the find and the threats were related.

Mazlan said a member of the public had reported finding an object in the compound of the house about 5pm.
However, he said, police were only informed about 10pm.
"Bomb disposal unit personnel checked the object and confirmed it to be an IED which was incomplete. Police are still investigating the object," he said.

On the bomb threats, Mazlan said Brickfields police had received information from MRCB that there was a threat against KL Sental about 9pm.
A bomb disposal unit team as well as sniffer dogs from the K9 unit were despatched to the site. Sweeps, however, turned up no sign of any suspicious objects in the area.

Mazlan said checks at the Russian embassy also turned up "negative" for explosive devices.
"We believe the threats to be hoaxes," he said.
He said police were working with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to trace the owners of the Twitter account.
Mazlan urged anyone with information to call the city police headquarters command centre at 03-21159999 or Brickfields command centre at 03-22979268.

Checks with the Twitter account revealed the words "hacked by limzhengyan" located on the lefthand side where details of the account are located.

A message posted late in the evening stated: "Hi this is limzhengyan. I want to inform you that there is a bomb within a Samsonite suitcase that is now placed at the concourse area inside KL Sentral. It is anticipated to go off very soon."
A second message then said that a second bomb had been smuggled into the Russian embassy and would detonate after the first one had gone off.
