FUEL SUBSIDY
The special consideration n preferential treatment is given to Sabah n Sarawak because of the special position of Sabah n Sarawak in the federation.
The total subsidy amount under general subsidy system is much more than the subsidy amount under the targeted subsidy system.
Sarawak n Sabah benefits from maintaining the existing general subsidy system.
It was announced this afternoon that the new targeted subsidy system will b implemented in January 2020, which means RON95 prices will b floated according to the world crude oil prices. To compensate for the hardship resulting from such implementation, B40 group (those BSH recipients) will b given monthly subsidy RM30 for one car per owner n RM12 for one motorbike per owner.
This targeted subsidy system will only b applicable in west malaysia.
For Sarawak Sabah n Labuan, we will still enjoy the capping of RM2.08 per liter for RON95, ie general subsidy across the board for all Sarawakians.
As such, the monthly subsidy will not b implemented for Sarawak n Sabah as there will not b any ron95 price increase.
The targeted subsidy system is introduced because it will have a huge savings for government in terms of subsidy borne by the government.
Federal government has to introduce this targeted subsidy system to replace the current general subsidy system, because of the dire state of the financial position caused by the previous government ‘s corruption and misappropriation of fund.
As it is now, if price floating now, ron95 will b RM2.49 per litre.
