Struktur bangunan mungkin tak ikut spesifikasi - Khalid Samad
Februari 15, 2020 11:13 MYT

Taman Desa condo slab collapse not due to landslide, says FT minister

Saturday, 15 Feb 2020 11:15 AM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 15 — Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad has clarified that yesterday’s slab collapse at The Address, a condominium project in Taman Desa, was not caused by a landslide.

Khalid said the incident was likely the result of structural failure.

“It was not a landslide. The structure collapsed from the sixth to first floor. From the preliminary reports we have received, there is a huge possibility that the collapse could have been caused by the structure which was not strong enough,” Khalid told reporters at the Seri Perak people's housing project in Sentul today.

It was reported yesterday that part of The Address condominium, which is currently under construction, had collapsed at about 3.30pm during a heavy downpour.

Those living in the vicinity of the project alerted the authorities after hearing a loud crash.

Khalid said, however, the cause of the collapse would only be confirmed after investigations are carried out by appointed civil consultants by the project contractor, Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

“It could have been that the foundation of the building or the columns were not strong enough, it needs investigation.

“For now, a stop-work order has been enforced. No construction work will be done on site. Only those who are investigating the case will be allowed on site,” said Khalid.

He added that the parties involved in building the condominium would have followed design plans approved by DBKL.

“There is not such a thing as the contractor wanting to cut corners. There is no shortcut, nobody gains from such cases,” he said.

Khalid also explained that yesterday’s incident was an isolated case and not related to a previous one at the same site that was categorised as a safety issue.

On January 23, 2018, a crane toppled onto its side during construction and caused damage to an adjoining property, Tiara Faber Condominium.

The Address, a 202-unit, low-density residential project on a rise next to a public school, began construction at the end of 2017.

It has faced considerable resistance from Taman Desa residents who complained of noise pollution and of the developer ignoring construction conditions set by the DBKL.

Lesen jualan kondominium runtuh digantung
15 Februari 2020
.

Construction workers of collapsed Taman Desa condo project vacate living quarters after stop work order
Saturday, 15 Feb 2020 10:30 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 15 — After a stop work order was issued today to the contractor of condominium project The Address — part of it collapsed last Friday — its construction workers were seen moving out of the building site.

They were carrying mattresses, rice cookers, table fans, adapters, toiletries and clothes, and loading them into their respective e-hailed transportation.

Two Bangladeshi workers were injured in the incident; one has since been discharged from Hospital Kuala Lumpur, while the other is still receiving treatment at the same hospital.

A worker who did not want to be named said all those staying on site have to vacate their living quarters.

“We all stay on site (living quarters located at project’s second phase). But we cannot stay here anymore since the collapse as the rubble from the slab damaged part of our living quarters, and it is dangerous.

“It was a good thing that all of us were working at the time, and none of us were in the quarters.

“I was up there (pointing at the opposite block). I could get a full view of what happened,” he said, while playing a video in which he had taken of the rubble which fell through the ceiling of the workers’ living quarters.

According to news reports, the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) had today started an investigation into the partial collapse of the 37-storey condominium.
It was also reported that the condominium developer’s advertising permit and developer licence (APDL) was also suspended pending the investigation.

The Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin said DOSH’s investigation was expected to be completed in a month’s time, but her ministry will request for DOSH to expedite it.

Taman Desa condominium structure may not have followed specifications
15 Feb 2020 / 14:36 H.

KUALA LUMPUR: Weak foundations or pillars which do not meet specifications could possibility be the cause for the collapse of part of the structure of a 37-storey condominium under construction in Taman Desa, Jalan Klang Lama yesterday, said Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad (pix).

“The building collapsed before it rained. It was not a landslide, the incident was before the rain.

“Perhaps the structure of the building itself does not follow specifications, causing it to collapse from the sixth floor to the bottom,” he said in a press conference after launching the Kempen KITA programme at the Seri Perak Public Housing in Sentul today.

However, Khalid said, thorough investigations must be carried out to find out the real cause.

He said following the incident, construction work at the condominium project has been stopped with immediate effect to allow for the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) to investigate.

Khalid also advised all developers not to use shortcuts in their construction projects.

“In this matter, nobody wins. The developer should abide by all the procedures which have been set out,” he said.

In the incident, two Bangladesh nationals were reported to be trapped on the first level after the floor of the parking area on the sixth level collapsed during heavy rain at 3.40pm.

The first victim was rescued at 5.15pm while the second at 9.40pm Both were taken to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment. — Bernama
