Here, colourful kites soar upwards defying gravity and giant drums reverberate. Shadow puppets mesmerise audiences and giant tops provide hours of endless fun.

Kelantan has a population of about 1.4 million ; 95% is Malay with Chinese, Indians and Orang Asli making up the rest. Kelantanese are renowned for their warmth and friendliness. Royal Museum/Istana Batu

Istana Batu was designed and built in 1939 during the reign of Sultan Ismail I. It was used as a venue for royal weddings as well as to house royal guests. Today, it has been converted into theRoyal Museum where regalia and palace items belonging to former Sultans are on display. These include silverware, bedroom items and furniture from the royal household. There is also a photographic exhibition on the life of the late Sultan of Kelantan.

Admission : RM 2.00

Museum Of Royal Traditions & Custom/Istana Jahar

Istana Jahar was built in 1887 during the reign of Sultan Ahmad(1886-1889) for his son Long Kundur who succeeded him as SultanMuhammad 111 (1889-1890) as a wedding gift. Its design is a blend oftraditional Kelantanese and Georgian architectures and it boasts a number of beautifully carved panels and iron-grills.At Istana Jahar one can nostalgically feel the grandeur of Kelantan Traditional Royal Ceremonies which were held on auspicious occasions under royal petronage before 1944. Surround yourself with the best in Brassware, antique Jewellery & Textiles, Traditional Costumes and Malay weapons to the sounds of Kelantan ancient music, one will be able to see how these artifacts which form the Regalia are used in a perticular Roya Ceromony.
