meaning: it is ok to keep your existing wife (being a responsible husband) if u want to marry another woman...

divorce is a separate measure and any subsequent union is not a marriage.

This shows that u dont really understand Islam...truth my fried...when a talak is given, the woman must stay at the house for 4 months or if pregnant and till give birth or the 4 months expire then only the divorce becomes effective...Even a talak is given by mouth, the husband must maintain food, clothes, shelter to his wife and one year and only then divorce is final...between that time, he can "RUJUK" his wife....

Is not like western divorce, ok divorce..final..bye2..noooooooo it is only like a P license...the husband still habe to maintain food, clothes, shelter for 4 months in IDdah...

LOL - of course adam & eve is in single marriege. they' are, literally, the FIRST MAN/WOMAN ON EARTH. (there's no one else, & Adam had either Eve, or... gasp! his daughters, which is an abomination to be married to.)

anyway, do you know in the pre-Islamic period men can marry in thousands? remember the Siam Kings, even our Sultanates who used to marry hundreds & have many mistresses. & because of that, these pre-Islamic men usually desert their wives unresponsibly just like that. thus the women always become oppressed, lost & enslaved.

so Islamic polygamy actually brings justice to these women, as it limits the number of wives a man can have to just 4 -- the maximum number a man can be responsible to. plus, it also raises a woman's status. rather than her being a lowly mistress, she is now a wife, who her husband must love, protect & care for. there's now -- LOVE & SECURITY.

if you say it's unfair for women, speak for yourself. i'm a muslim lady, & i don't mind polygamy, as long as it's in line with Islam -- which is the husband must love, protect, care for & be responsible of me & the other wives.

personally, I think marriege is to give men & women the security of a loving family. from marriege, we fulfill our desire for love, children, family, security -- secured, loving relationships that any normal human being yearns for.

so that's why I believe in Islam, marriege is not just about 2 person becoming 1. it's so much richer than that. it's about building a family. in Islam, Allah loves marriege mightily, it's even regarded as building a mosque. a divorce, meanwhile is like destroying a mosque -- which is one of the things that are legal in Islam, but Allah hate it just as mightily. because it severes relationships.

a lot of times when you say it's 2 become 1, people always think, "i don't wanna marry YOUR FATHER, forget about him. I wanna marry YOU." so they desert their family. which, for me, I find that quite mistaken.

marriege shouldn't be limited to sexual love, or love between ONLY 2 person. it invloves so much more. our family, both our moms & dads, our siblings. it's about merging 2 families, & building a stronger relationship between the 2. as an mini-ummah.

i'm a muslim lady & i don't mind polygamy. to me, marriege is about building a healthy, happy family, dedicated to my God & bringin good to the society. my version of love was neve rRomeo-Juliet, honestly... if yours is, well that's you.
