tapi pasal muar adalah bdr diraja johor aku tak pernah dengar... yg aku tau bdr diraja johor tu johor lama.
lagi satu bendera muar tu mmg bendera rasmi muar dulu... baru diguna-pakai semula oleh ex-do muar, dato naim. tapi ada sikit salah sebab lambang bulan bintangnya sepatutnya menghadap sikit ke bawah, spt bendera johor kat bawah... menunjukkan bulan melindungi bintang spt umat melindungi islam.

yes...muar mmg la bagi aku town yg xde menda..once i drove from segamat to muar kononyer the nearest town(80km gak xsilap aku)..stayed for 15 minutes and i drove back to segamat hahaha..but one thing yg i love is the asam pedas..psl asam pedas muar la aku suka makan asam pedas skang nih..and mmg pelik gak pd aku yg org muar makan sate for breakfast lunch:stp:

stay la 1 hari ...... baru mcm2 buleh buat. Ni takat 15 minit je .... mcm org masuk toilet je tu.

makan sate utk breakfast tu mmg dah jadik tradisi ....... kat muar boleh dpt sate dr pagi sampai besok pagi pun ada

Muar is the biggest and most important district under the Johor empire and the first to be significantly developed by Johor. Parit Jawa is an important area under Muar where are community there plant gambir, coconut, pinang and other commercial plant during the 19th century.

Journey from Parit Jawa to Muar town in those days were difficult. Travellers by sea or river are exposed to pirate attacks, while there are no proper roads being built between the two places.

In 13th. November 1887, the Johor government solved this problem. A discussion was held between Residen Ungku Sulaiman and Dato' Bentara Luar who at that time was the head for the Land Office and Agriculture Affairs of Muar district.


An agreement was reached in this discussion where railway will be constructed in early 1889 with the objective to service the population at the south of Muar town and improve transportation of goods. It is also to provide free transportation for school children who went to English school in Muar town.

The construction of this railway was done mostly by Malay and Javanese workers who migrated in masses to the Malay peninsular. Most of these Javanese immigrants do not have permanant job and their pay was cheap. Between 1889 - 1890 was the initial stage of the construction work if this railway. All materials were supplied from Europe.

The triain has a steam engine and the seating coach were arrange facing each side. There ten coaches. Five for passenger and three coaches for carrying goods. The passenger coaches were divided into first class, second class and third class which was always full.There were other facilities. Each pessenger were charged five sen per mile.

The railway starts from Jalan Sulaiman in Muar town to Parit Jawa in 1890. In 1894, the railway was extended another three miles until Sungai Pulai. The railway services five times a day.

There were five permanant stations and eight temporary stations along the railway.

Permanant stations:

1. Bandar Maharani, Muar

2. Parit Bakar

3. Parit Jawa

4. Parit Pecah

5. Parit Pulai

Temporary stations:

1. Parit Perupok

2. Parit Keroma

3. Parit Raja

4. Parit Unas

5. Parit Samsu

6. Parit Jamil

7. Parit Bulat

8. Parit Seri Menanti

The railway service was very profitable. The main factors that contribute to the profitability was because of the two types of service coaches, increase in economic activities and sea transportations were stopped.

In 1915, income for Muar State Railway reached RM86,701.92 compared to estimated expenditure of RM63,216.77.

With this positive development, His Mejesty Sultan Johor suggested to extend the railway service until Batu Pahat river but it was not done due to financial reasons and geographical condition. There were a lot of soft ground along the way, it had to be piled every time the train pass through the area resulting increase in expenditure.

Profitability began to reduce when the engine is getting old and the high cost incurred in maintaining the railway and stations. With the opening of a road called Jalan Abdul Rahman from Maharani town to Parit Jawa, the Muar State Railway ceased its operation in 1925.

Aku membesar dari kecik sampai form 5 kat muo..last sekolah kat SMKA Maahad Muar...

aku rindu sangat kat sana..tiap-tiap bulan mesti balik Muar sebab orang tua masih duduk kat sana dan yang pentingnya makanan kat sana memang marvellous...rojak petis, ABC kat tanjung (kalau korang nak tau dulu kat bus stand muar ada satu kedai jual rojak petis)..

pernah dengar nasi beringin? hanya kat muar je ada nasi ni hehehe tapi sekarang aku dah tak tau kat mana nak cari...dulu selalu lepak gerai Hashim Nasi Beringin kat bus stand..mungkin pindah ke stadium muar..

pasal satay..hmm..kalau aku balik muar, bapak aku mesti beli satay ni..kecik je saiz dia. tak macam satay kajang..tapi kuah dia memang best..kalau ada kuah kacang lebih aku campur kat lontong fuh....lepas tu berat badan naik secara mendadak hehehe

asam pedas...mak aku memang pakar buat lauk ni...sekarang ni aku tengah mencari kerja kat sana..ada rezeki aku nak balik muar..nak taburkan bakti kat daerah yang membesarkan aku dan mengenal erti kehidupan....

yer ker? cam ner laks jln penarikan kat kedah? kat pahang? saner pon ade jalan penarikan gak...

jalan penarikan nih maksudnyer laluan yg org dulu lalu... tapi kat tempat tu diorang kene turun kene tarik perahu/bot... kira tempat tu cam berpaya lah.. skang nih paya dah takde.. dah keras dah tanah tu..
so laluan-laluan tu dinamakan jln penarikan... atas sebab kene tarik bot/perahu..
macam zaman dulu lets say.. katakan ko nak berdagang dari muar/melaka ke negeri pahang.. nak lalu selat melaka ngan selat tebrau jauh.. so guna lah jln penarikan.. di sungai serting, sungai jempol, sungai muar, dan jugak sungai pahang.. ade ler beberapa lagi sungai yg ade jln penarikan nih tapi aku tak ingat namanya..

tu yg aku tau ler... kalo aku silap sori lah yerkk!

Sate, mi bandung, Gunung Ledang serlah imej Bandar Maharani

EKO pelancongan, juadah istimewa, tempat bersejarah dan keindahan alam sering menjadi tarikan berkunjung ke sesuatu lokasi. Bagi bandar popular Muar, daerah ini menawarkan pakej percutian lengkap walaupun pernah digelar bandar pencen.

Siapa tidak pernah mendengar kelazatan asam pedas, sate dan mi bandung Muar? Deretan bangunan zaman kolonial dan keseronokan di Dataran Tanjung Emas juga menggamit pengunjung termasuk pelancong asing.


Kunjungan ke Muar tentunya menjanjikan pengalaman berbeza dengan keunikan tersendiri. Tentunya keenakan pelbagai juadah eksotik mengujakan kami bertandang ke Muar selain terpukau dengan keindahan Gunung Ledang.

Sabtu

7 pagi : Teruja mendengar cerita sarapan istimewa di Muar ialah sate dan mi bandung, kami bertolak dari Kuala Lumpur pada awal pagi dengan perut kosong.



SATE dan Mi bandung Muar antara sajian yang popular.

Perjalanan hanya mengambil masa kira-kira dua jam melalui Lebuhraya Utara Selatan dan keluar di laluan Plaza Tol Tangkak.



9 pagi : Setibanya di Muar, kami merentasi Jambatan Sultan Ismail yang merentangi Sungai Muar. Pemandangan mengasyikkan dengan deretan bangunan di tebing serta jeti nelayan.

Kami tidak melepaskan peluang bersarapan mi bandung dan sate Muar yang menjadi menu wajib bagi sesiapa saja yang berkunjung ke sini. Katanya, tidak lengkap kunjungan jika tidak menikmati kedua-dua juadah ini. Pilihan kami semestinya kedai Abu Bakar Hanifah di Jalan Abdullah yang sentiasa mendapat sambutan, termasuk dari pelancong asing dan kenamaan.


BELAYAR menyusuri Sungai Muar amat menyeronokkan.


10 pagi : Kami memulakan pengembaraan meneroka Muar dengan melalui Jalan Muar-Batu Pahat. Banyak rumah lama dilihat di sepanjang jalan. Kami singgah sebentar di jeti nelayan Parit Jawa iaitu kira-kira 15 kilometer dari bandar untuk melihat aksi burung hijrah yang berkampung di jeti ini.

Kawanan burung ini dikatakan sudah hampir pupus iaitu burung botak atau nama saintifiknya, Leptotilos Javanicus. Kami kemudian meneruskan perjalanan ke Kolam Air Panas Sungai Gersik yang terletak kira-kira 40 kilometer dari bandar. Setibanya di kolam air panas ini, kami berehat dan mengambil kesempatan berendam meregangkan urat kaki dan badan.


1 petang : Dalam perjalanan pulang ke bandar Muar, kami singgah menikmati makan tengah hari di medan selera di Parit Jawa. Juadah istimewa yang menanti tentulah asam pedas Muar. Anda boleh memilih sama ada mahukan ikan sembilang, kembung, siakap, merah dan mayong. Ikan ini sungguh lazat kerana masih segar dan diperoleh sejurus didaratkan di jeti berhadapan medan selera.


3 petang : Selesai menjamu selera, kami bertolak ke lokasi penginapan pilihan iaitu Hotel Muar Traders yang terletak di tebing Sungai Muar. Hotel ini menyajikan pemandangan indah Sungai Muar dan Gunung Ledang dari kejauhan.


6 petang : Selepas berehat, kami mengambil kesempatan menikmati keindahan Sungai Muar dengan menaiki bot persiaran dari Jeti Tanjung Emas berhampiran hotel penginapan. Pengalaman ini mengasyikkan apatah lagi memandang ke arah masjid berkembar iaitu Masjid Jamek Sultan Abu Bakar dan Masjid Sultan Ismail berhadapan kedua-dua tebing.

Pemandu pelancong memberi maklumat mengenai keistimewaan bandar dan Sungai Muar, selain berkongsi pelbagai lokasi menarik di daerah ini. Kami diberitahu Sungai Muar adalah terpanjang di Johor dan hulunya mencecah Negeri Sembilan dan Pahang.



9 malam : Menunaikan hajat hati, kami menjamu selera dengan menu ikan bakar dan makanan laut segar di Medan Ikan Bakar Sabak Awor yang terletak di jeti nelayan iaitu hanya kira-kira lima kilometer dari bandar. Keenakan dan kesegaran ikan bakar di sini tidak kalah dengan lokasi popular lain seperti Umbai di Melaka.

Selesai menjamu selera, kami menikmati hembusan bayu Selat Melaka di kawasan Rekreasi dan Dataran Tanjung Emas. Suasana malam di bandar Muar agak sunyi berbanding Kuala Lumpur yang tetap 'hidup' sehingga ke pagi.


Ahad

9 pagi : Memulakan hari dengan menikmati sarapan pagi di Kafe Kopi 434 berhadapan Perhentian Bas Bentayan yang terkenal dengan kopinya yang enak selain roti bakar yang rasanya cukup berbeza.

10 pagi : Gamitan Gunung Ledang yang dilihat daripada jendela hotel menyebabkan kami teruja berkunjung ke pusat rekreasi ini untuk berkelah dan menikmati air terjun yang sejuk dan menyegarkan. Kejernihan air terjun pasti menawan sesiapa saja, apatah lagi apabila berpeluang menikmati kedinginan airnya yang tidak tercemar.

Legenda Puteri Gunung Ledang yang menjadi idaman hati Sultan Mahmud pada zaman Kesultanan Melayu Melaka menjadi antara hikayat sejarah yang sering disebut-sebut malah tidak lapuk ditelan zaman.

Seperti hebatnya kisah puteri jelita itu, begitulah juga indahnya kawasan percutian Gunung Ledang. Bagi mereka yang gemarkan cabaran dan memiliki stamina tinggi, bolehlah mendaki Gunung Ledang yang mencatatkan ketinggian 1,276 meter. Gunung ini adalah gunung tertinggi di selatan Semenanjung. Tentunya anda boleh menikmati keindahan flora dan fauna antara lain lebih 100 spesies pokok serta paku pakis yang sukar ditemui di tempat lain.


3 petang : Sebelum pulang ke Kuala Lumpur, kami mengunjungi Tangkak yang menjadi pusat perniagaan tekstil hingga mendapat jolokan 'syurga kain'. Apa lagi, penulis dan rakan-rakan memborong pelbagai jenis kain yang dijual pada harga berpatutan. Kami kemudian meninggalkan Muar dengan kenangan manis dan hajat berkunjung lagi!



FAKTA


Bandar Muar dibuka pada 1884 dan dikenali sebagai Bandar Maharani. Nama Muar berasal dari perkataan ‘muara’ berikutan kedudukan bandar itu di kuala sungai.

Sungai Muar mempunyai banyak catatan peristiwa bersejarah termasuk pada zaman kesultanan Melaka dan kesan serangan komunis di Bukit Kepong.

Pelbagai bangunan lama termasuk Masjid Jamek Sultan Abu Bakar, Bangunan Sultan Abu Bakar, Kubu Bentayan, Bangunan Kastam Diraja, Mahkamah Tinggi/Sesyen, Pejabat Cawangan Polis Trafik Muar dan Sekolah Tinggi Muar masih terpelihara.

Kesan Kubu Bentayan yang menjadi lokasi terakhir kerajaan Melaka selepas serangan Portugis pada tahun 1511 juga boleh dilihat. Peminat sejarah juga boleh mengunjungi Muzium Bukit Kepong yang mencatat serangan komunis di lokasi kira-kira 80 kilometer dari bandar Muar.

Sebelum pulang, pastinya anda ingin membeli cenderahati untuk keluarga dan teman. Kopi 434 yang didatangkan dengan bungkusan menarik sesuai dijadikan ole-ole atau perencah Mi Bandung Muar segera. Pelbagai kerepek tempatan juga boleh didapati di pasar atau di tepi jalan. Dalam perjalanan pulang sebelum tiba di Plaza Tol Tangkak, deretan gerai buah-buahan tempatan boleh disinggahi.

Reflecting Muar抯 historic charm

OLD buildings in the coastal river town of Muar in northwestern Johor are a priceless heritage and definitely an attraction.
They may not be historically famous like those in Georgetown and Malacca, which were accorded World Heritage Site status by Unesco on July 7, 2008.
Nonetheless, they reflect the town抯 prosperous past and splendour and make interesting subjects for photographers, history buffs, visitors and architecture students.
In good use: The Sultan Abu Bakar Building now houses the Muar Land Office and District Office.
Muar抯 name originates from the Malay word muara or estuary.
History shows that Sultan Abu Bakar named it Bandar Maharani or Empress Town in 1884 after his consort Sultanah Fatimah.
Unlike today抯 structures, it is easy to identify the buildings of yesteryears as the dates of completion are visible on the exterior.
Outstanding:Well-preserved pre-war building in Jalan Maharani dominate in Muar's architecture.
Most of the buildings feature neo-classical and Georgian designs popular in 19th-century Europe, the United States and British colonies.
High ceilings, verandas, columns, arches, striped walls, louvre windows panels, decorative plaster and balustrades are common features of buildings of that circa.
Although most of them are of colonial design, the architects included Chinese, Indian and Malay motifs to adapt the designs to local culture.
Still vibrant: The Sultan Abu Bakar Building in Jalan Mejidi is a replica of the Grand Palace in Johor Baru.
Rows of well-preserved pre-war buildings in Jalan Abdullah, Jalan Maharani and Jalan Sulaiman add colour to the streets as the buildings dominate as far as the town抯 architecture is concerned.
Standing proudly in Jalan Bentayan next to Wisma Kim are two Chinese pre-war houses adorned with intricate plaster stucco designs on the fa鏰de and tiles of Anglo-Saxon influence.
The Royal Customs and Excise building built in 1909 in Jalan Maharani was once an important landmark.
The back of the building that faces Muar River served as a landing port and was part of a railway network linking Jalan Sulaiman in Bandar Maharani and Sungai Pulai over a distance of 22.5km.
Standing tall: A view of Muar from the northern bank of River in Tanjung Agas.
Not many are aware that Muar was served by its own railway network known as Muar State Railways (MSR).
MSR operated from 1889 to 1925 and started just four years after the first railway line of the country from Taiping to Port Weld in Perak was inaugurated in 1885.
It facilitated the transportation of people and kampung products from surrounding villages to Malacca and Singapore via the port.
The service dwindled after the opening of Jalan Abdul Rahman in 1918 linking the town and Parit Jawa.
MSR came to an end in 1925.
Muar High School was founded in 1902 as a government English school.
Construction of the colonial-style building in Jalan Meriam started in 1904 and was completed in 1915.
It is among the oldest schools in Johor and has produced many famous names including former Johor Mentri Besar the late Tan Sri Osman Saat, International Trade and Industry Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman.
Construction of Sultan Ibrahim Jamek Mosque on the Muar riverbank in Jalan Petri was begun in 1920 and completed in 1927 at a cost of RM10,000.
It is noted for its four-storey minaret in its backyard and a worship place that depicts European-classical and Islamic architectural influences.
Passers-by in Jalan Mejidi will not miss the Sultan Abu Bakar building (built in 1921) as it is a replica of the Istana Besar or Grand Palace of Johor Baru, which is now the Johor Royal Museum.
It houses the Muar Land Office and District Office.
Three double-storey link houses in Jalan Othman built in 1928 with Dutch architecture stand in stark contrast to their surroundings.

my hometown....tiap kali balik musti pekena mee bandung muar tak bole miss....dkul 12 mlm pun bole cari lg
dulu2 time tanjung mas tu tak bertembok....selalu g cari belangkas kat ujung tanjung tu....then buat bakar...sedapnye...lama dah tak makan...susah nak dpt sekrang ni....then malam2 lepak kat tanjung layan rojak petis.....
mee siput ngan sambal...pergh makan depan tv....
then makan pisang, keledek ngan sambal kicap pedas ....asben org perak tetiba pelik...naper lak nak makan pisang cicah sambal kicap...tp udahnye dia yg kemaruk nak

Website on royals attracts scholar's attention A VISIT to the Muar Temenggong Heirs Association website has piqued the interest of a Japanese researcher.
Historical relics on Muar Temenggong such as the grave of the seventh Temenggong Engku Mohd Salleh Engku Ismail can still be found in the village.
Raja Abdul Rahman Raja Basok says his association抯 website piqued the interest of a Japanese professor.
Professor of Media at Kanda University of International Studies Mika Okushima sent an email to the association expressing an interest in the history of Muar.

According to association chairman Raja Abdul Rahman Raja Basok, Mika had once researched the history of Sabah and Kalimantan in an effort to understand the background of countries in the region including Malaysia and Indonesia.

He said Mika praised the association for putting up an informative website on Muar's rulers since 1800.

"He said he had managed to comply oral history on the Bulungan Sultanate in Sabah from the 1800s," said Raja Abdul Rahman

"Based on his research, Mika said that the eldest prince of a former Johor Sultan had married a sister of Sultan Bulungan named Sultan Kaharudin 1. The sultan, who died in 1850, is believed to be part of Muar royalty."

Raja Abdul Rahman, who is the fourth generation descendant of the seventh Muar Temenggong, Temenggong Engku Mohd Salleh Engku Ismail, said the association would be inviting Mika to their annual meeting in June.

He said the event would be held at Kampung Pengkalan Kota, Durian Condong in Muar, which used to be the seat of rule of the Muar Temenggong in the early 1900s.

"Historical relics on the Muar Temenggong can still be found in Kampung Pengkalan Kota, including the grave of Engku Mohd Salleh who died in 1902."
