WASHINGTON - The White House severely edited congressional testimony given Tuesday by the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on the impact of climate change on health, removing specific scientific references to potential health risks, according to two sources familiar with the documents.

Dr. Julie Gerberding, director of the Atlanta-based CDC, the government's premier disease monitoring agency, told a Senate hearing that climate change "is anticipated to have a broad range of impacts on the health of Americans."

But her prepared testimony was devoted entirely to the CDC's preparation, with few details on what effects climate change could have on the spread of disease. Only during questioning did she describe some specific diseases that likely would be affected, again without elaboration.

Her testimony before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee had much less information on health risks than a much longer draft version Gerberding submitted to the White House Office of Management and Budget for review in advance of her appearance.

It seems to me that White House still have problem accepting that Global Warming going to be a problem. They take data from Scientists and Experts and edit those which look nice to read and for their little minds to able to gasp and understood. Never mind ... after all, no harm done, right?

SAN DIEGO - Faced with unrelenting winds whipping wildfires into a frenzy across Southern California, firefighters conceded defeat on many fronts Tuesday to an unstoppable force that has chased more than 500,000 people away.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said the flames were threatening 68,000 more homes.

"We have had an unfortunate situation that we've had three things come together: very dry areas, very hot weather and then a lot of wind," Schwarzenegger said. "And so this makes the perfect storm for a fire."

Any flame longer than 8 feet is considered unstoppable, and even water and fire retardant will evaporate before they reach the ground, said Gordon Schmidt, a retired U.S. Forest Service deputy director of fire management.

Weather conditions only grew worse, with temperatures across Southern California about 10 degrees above average. Temperatures were in the 90s by mid-afternoon and wind gusts up to 60 mph were expected in mountains and canyons.

Unfortunately for the White House, Mother is not an easy "lady" to be fooled.

More the White House refuse to admit that Global Warming is a problem and taken SERIOUS steps to address it, more and more people going to be running away from their homes like this in yearly basis. And we can expect more serious problems in other parts of US and the World as well.

You see, humans couldn't be bothered if someone else dies in events like this, but they will be hurt quite badly if their livelyhood as well as their properties have been hit. Every year, people will find their properties have been damaged and destroyed, and every year, they are forced to spend money to fix it or built their homes again. How long it going to be before Man breaks down and cry?

Trust me ... never go against Mother Nature. She knows where it hurts the most.

By GREG BLUESTEIN, Associated Press Writer
Thu Nov 1, 7:59 PM ET

ORME, Tenn. - As twilight falls over this Tennessee town, Mayor Tony Reames drives up a dusty dirt road to the community's towering water tank and begins his nightly ritual in front of a rusty metal valve.

With a twist of the wrist, he releases the tank's meager water supply, and suddenly this sleepy town is alive with activity. Washing machines whir, kitchen sinks fill and showers run.

About three hours later, Reames will return and reverse the process, cutting off water to the town's 145 residents.

The severe drought tightening like a vise across the Southeast has threatened the water supply of cities large and small, sending politicians scrambling for solutions. But Orme, about 40 miles west of Chattanooga and 150 miles northwest of Atlanta, is a town where the worst-case scenario has already come to pass: The water has run out.

Thousands await rescue in Mexico floods By ANTONIO VILLEGAS, Associated Press Writer
Thu Nov 1, 7:59 PM ET

VILLAHERMOSA, Mexico - Thousands of people clung to rooftops, huddled inside waterlogged homes or hunkered down in shelters Thursday in an attempt to survive the worst flooding the low-lying Gulf state of Tabasco has seen in 50 years.

A week of heavy rains caused rivers to overflow, leaving at least 70 percent of the state

During Chinese New Year Week (beginning of this month), nearly 20+ tornadoes touch down on US West coast, destroying hundreds of homes and left millions of dollars worth of damages.

Same time, in China, 1 million people have been stranded when a freak blizzard brought few of the major cities there to its knees.

Forgive me if I don't feel pity for the two of the World's biggest polluters. More to come, we shall watch.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has found Sarawak to be "extremely weak" in enforcing laws against cruelty to animals and endangered wildlife, The laws drawn up by the state government were good but there was something very wrong with the enforcement, said the UNDP's expert in environmental conversation in Sarawak, Dr. Alexander Sayok.

The plight of the sun bears was highlighted by South African expatriate Tweet Gainsborough, who saw these animals being ill-treated and locked up in a small cage in the farm, located along the Miri-Bintulu Second Coastal Highway next to the National Service Training Camp.

Gainsborough has complained to the Miri Wildlife Department, the Sarawak Forestry and the Miri City Council since August, but nothing was done to rescue the animals.

A farm worker alerted the STAR over the death of the sun bear, saying it died after the owner hid it inside forested area while it was still in the small cage, following the expatriate's complaints.

Dr. Sayok said the UNDP was very concerned over such matters. "We (UNDP) do not have enforcement powers but we hope the authorities will do something drastic to improve enforcement, or else the abuse and cruelty will not stop," he said.

What use of Laws when the authority which responsible to implement it doesn't do their job? What is the use of the Government if they are not bothered with the Laws they passed themselves? :@

Tweet (what sort of name is that?) Gainsborough have reported not only to one department, but THREE, yet there have not been any actions taken.

To me, it is a disturbing news. Malaysia is currently thinking of spending millions (again) to send a second Astronaut to Space (as if the experiement with teh tarik in space the first time around wasn't humiliating enough), but they have no urgency to make sure such problems as the above mentioned have been retrified or not.

What to do? The Government (under Mahathir last time) was so concern of making Malaysia a modern country by 2020 that they didn't know that modernization of a country doesn't mean the infrastructure alone. It meant the modernization of People's mind and the implementation of Laws by the Government. Malaysia is still below the Developing Country status in the implementation of its Laws.

PS : Gainsborough? Hmm ... I didn't know Aeris had a relative here.

American Government, like so many governments out there could have used Science and Technology to improve the current system as well as provide new technology for the people to use. They spend more time sending people to the Moon than researching new source for fuel. In the end, what happened? War came, Economic falls and everyone suffers. Despite of going through similar situation back in 1940s, Americans and Western society didn't seems to understand that the same situation could repeat again.

But we shouldn't blame it on the Government alone. The people's attitude to overspent and be wasteful of their resources are one reason why they are suffering so much now. If the people Worldwide have learnt to use only what they need, we could not be in such a dire state as we are today.

We should support any motions which could ensure that the Environment have been taken care off. It doesn't have to be a motion by a US politician alone.

Frankly speaking, I have less trust in US Politicians who could champion the course of Environment. So far, I have yet to see a single politician from US actually doing something solid (except maybe Arnold).

250ha of forest reserve devastated.

The STAR - Friday, March 6, 2009
by Geetha Krishnan

According to the Selangor Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman Lee Kim Sin, the approval for logging to be carried out on 202ha was given during a state executive council meeting on Nov. 8, 2006.

"This is for a proposed rubber estate project by Perbadanan Kemajuan Pertanian Selangor (PKPS). The following exco decision, the Selangor Forestry Department issued a logging permits to a private燾ompany," Lee said during a site visit to the forest reserve.

"This is shocking because there is no point in gazetting a forest reserve and then allowing logging activities to be carried out with the weak excuse of purportedly developing a rubber estate," Lee stated.

At the present, upgrading work is going on at Sungai Jelok to alleviate the flood in Kajang. The logging is now viewed as setback to the river-widening and deepening work.

You know, Forest Reserve (Hutan Simpanan) means that the Government reserves the forest as it is. But it is obvious here, that making a forest reservation means that the forest is kept till another government officials - taking bribes from private party and issue logging permits in name of "developing the land".

Regarding the topic of the Gaia Theory, it is interesting to see how the concept of a self-regulating Earth has gained more attention in recent years, especially with the increasing focus on green energy and sustainable practices. It is important for individuals and businesses to be aware of their impact on the environment and take steps towards reducing their carbon footprint. One such example is Arias Agencies, which has received positive Arias Agencies Gas reviews for its efforts to promote the use of cleaner-burning natural gas as an alternative to traditional fossil fuels.
