    What is nuchal translucency?
This is a collection of fluid under the skin at the back of a baby's neck. It can be measured using ultrasound when your baby is between 11 weeks and 13 weeks plus six days old. All babies have some fluid, but many babies with Down's syndrome have an increased amount (Snijders et al 1998: 351, 343-6).

A nuchal translucency (NT) scan is a screening test which assesses whether your baby is likely to have Down's syndrome. A screening test can only estimate the risk of your baby having Down's, whereas a diagnostic test, such as CVS or amniocentesis will give you a definite diagnosis (but also carries a small risk of miscarriage).

The NT scan can't tell for certain whether your baby is affected. However, it can help you decide whether or not to have a diagnostic test.

How is the NT scan performed?
An ultrasound scan must be performed between 11 weeks and 13 weeks plus six days of pregnancy. Before 11 weeks the scan is technically difficult because the baby is so tiny and, after 14 weeks, any excess fluid may be absorbed by the baby's developing lymphatic system.

The scan is usually done through your tummy, but occasionally it's necessary to have a vaginal scan, which will give better views. There is no risk to you or your baby and it should not be too uncomfortable. Read about vaginal scans in our overview of scans.

To accurately date your pregnancy, the person performing the scan, called a sonographer, will measure your baby from the top of his head to the bottom of his spine. She will then measure the width of the NT. The skin will appear as a white line, and the fluid under the skin will look black.

You will be able to see your baby's head and spine, limbs, hands and feet on the screen. Some major abnormalities may be excluded at this scan, but it's recommended you also have a detailed anomaly scan at about 20 weeks.

It's a good idea to take your partner or a friend with you, to share the experience and be with you when you get the result.

kl tinggal area seri kembangan boleh wat scan 3d/4d kt klinik jameaton depan jj equine tu...dia gynea..tp charge x sure brape.
kt blakang tesco xtra shah alam ada satu klinik jugak..ada buat scan 3d/4d. sebelah kedai makan.. charge pun x sure berapa.
dulu eva buat kt hosp pakar annur masa checkup. kalo ada diabetes masa pregnant mmg kene bua doc kata.

saya akan bt details scannig kt NEX Radiology di shah alam..
dia charge dlm rm200...dpt video n frame katanya x silap..now 22weeks...bettert bt 26weeks ke atas..

dulu ms peknen 1st, buat baby scan 3D kat HUKM..free jek..(ke sbb hubby keje gomen? guna GL, tk thu pulak aii...kuikui), memg selalu checkup kat sana...

skang ni, aii checkup kat hosp kajang, tkde pulak 3D ni, cuma detail scan jek..huhu..td aii dh call KPMC kajang..charge dlm RM60-70..ikut doc..rasanye nk try buat sabtu ni...
