The Penang City Council MPPP will instal a giant replica of a Pinang fruit at the roundabout at end of Beach St* to mark the Merdeka Day this year. No joke : Picture of the design -as shown above-is from Kwong Wah Jit Poh. The idea actually come a long way: following the giant sea gulls along Jelutong Expressway, then the phallic symbol like giant hibiscus at Udini Rd Roundabout and now, your giant Pinang fruit exposed for all to see ! Actually the Pinang or betel nut will take over the previous design which were some giant concrete hibiscus -which attracted its share of bric brats (Why not the real hibiscus-so they were asked) The fruit as usual come with a helfty price tag RM350 000.00-typical of the over-inflated price tags for landscaping projects in Penang! What exactly is the reason behind such giant replicas -has there been a replicas competition going on quietly in Malaysia- with the better known samples found at the Sky Kingdom in Terengganu ? *Ed: Correction to previous posting -the location is the end of Beach ST, not Gurney Drive as posted previously by mistake. Also the price tag is RM350 000.00, not RM300 000.00 as posted previously by mistake. Our apologies.

Many Penangites are not impressed by the wasteful and inappropriate landscaping work carried out by the city council so far. But the unelected council keep doing it, irrespective of the people they are supposed to serve !

At RM300 000.00 actually the City Council can afford to employ a real artist to creat a more artistic and tasteful scupture to mark our national day. Why are they so anti-artist that they would rather commission some resort style landscape concrete model maker to present tried and failed creations ? Are they under pressure by some mafia contractors to use the service of particular group ?

Anyway before the Chief Minister's Pinang fruit can see the light of the day surely a lot of Penangites would have cursed the obscenity to no end ! Let's see !

Pinang ¡®fruits¡¯ for roundabout

A FOUNTAIN with a 4.8m-high metal structure re-sembling giant pinang fruits will be erected at the roundabout next to the clock tower at King Edward's Place in George Town.

The Penang Municipal Council¡¯s landscaping, beautification and recreation committee alternate chairman Lim Kean Guan said work on the roundabout was scheduled for completion before National Day.

¡癢e decided on a pinang structure because of its significance in the state.

¡癕ore than 20 mature pinang trees will be planted in the area,¡

Mac baru discoverlagi satu tempat seafood yang menarik kat Penang. Kat Teluk Tempoyak. Memang sedap.Teluk Tempoyak ni on the way to Balik Pulau. Kawasan perkampungan nelayan. Memang fresh and sedap. Mac order tomyam udang. Memang penuh dengan udang semata tak macam kat KL ni kalau order tomyam udang, memang boleh kira udang nye berapa ekor.

teluk tempoyak dulu2 best..

pemandangan nak turun situ cantik...  tapi a bit curam, sapa yg takut2 bawk kereta sure risau terbabas, dah ler jalan sempit.

Aku pernah gi situ makan seafood and order air kelapa berjug2.. hehehe.

Memang betul. Sotong tepung kat Teluk Tempoyak memang sedap gilerr walaupun tepung lebih banyak daripada sotong tapi sedap punya hal tak kisahlah. Ni hah gambar sotong tepung yang mac makan kat Teluk Tempoyak tu.



Kepah goreng pedas pun sedap. Kepah dia lain sikit daripada yang mac makan kat Melaka tu.
