Kanjani8's Shota Yasuda and Ryuhei Maruyama will co-star in a TV Aichi dorama special slated to air on 23 November 2006 entitled "Jitensha Shounen Ki", which is based on a cellphone-only novel that had attracted over 450,000 views. The story is about two friends facing hardships and the reality of life as they grow up, form a bicycle club in high school and fall in love.

Ryuhei Maruyama as Souta
Yasuda plays Shouhei who excels in sports but a reckless athlete. Maruyama plays Souta who is shy but hardworking and dreams to become a professional cyclist. Intense training puts Souta on top of his game and he proves that he's better than Shouhei during a cycling competition. Meanwhile, Shohei sacrifices himself so that Souta could win the competition. However, an injury during college prevents Souta from pursuing his dream. At the same time, he decided to break up with his girlfriend, Kanade, who wants to study abroad. A worried Shouhei comes to see him but they end up in a fist fight...Maruyama will narrate the story.
The filming of the dorama has begun on October 4th.

Akanishi Jin will study abroad for half a year
It has been decided that Akanishi Jin (KAT-TUN) is going to study abroad. For the present, he will stop all activities. We apologize to the fans and everyone involved for the sudden announcement. It has barely been a year since KAT-TUN debuted and they are still newcomers, Akanishi's wish to study abroad has been postponed so far. But in respect of his strong wish to be an exchange student while he is still young, he has been permitted to study abroad for half a year. As it is also possible that his studies might take a longer time than that, it is yet unclear when he will return.

KAT-TUN will continue with five members. We hope for your understanding. To support Akanishi in his devotion to his studies, there is no plan to publicly announce where he will study.

Two concerts by popular idol singer Matsuura Aya (20) had to be cancelled for medical reasons. She has been diagnosed with temporomandibular arthrosis, a condition similar to arthritis that affects the joint connecting the jaw to the skull. Ayaya's management say she has been using painkillers to continue working, though the condition has caused her to cancel concerts before. Doctors examined her yesterday and decided that performing was out of the question. She had been scheduled to perform two concerts in Sagamihara in Kanagawa Prefecture. Management have scheduled a press conference for today but whether she herself will appear depends on her condition. It's also undecided whether two concerts later this month in Tokyo will go ahead.

AAA vocalist Uno Misako (20) made her Hollywood debut. She was at Knotsberry Farm for the world premiere of "The Grudge 2", Shimizu Takashi's Hollywood remake of his own smash hit horror flick, which was held at the famous tourist attraction near Los Angeles. It was legendary horror director Sam Raimi, the producer of this project, who decided he wanted to use AAA's music in a film and invited Uno to try out for a part. Uno said, "I didn't think I'd be scared seeing as how I'm in it, but I was. And I was surprised by my own acting!" She added, "We were chosen as Best Newcomer at the Japan Record Awards last year. It'd be great if I could win something similar at the Academy Awards!" |

Teen actress playing 14-year-old mom appears at NTV drama preview
Teen actress Mirai Shida appeared at a preview screening for an NTV drama casting her as a 14-year-old mother, saying she could never imagine being in the same situation in real life.
Shida, 13, spoke to reporters during the preview of "14-sai no Haha -- Ai Suru Tame ni Umaretekita" (14-year-old Mother -- Born to be Loved). Joining her at the event were 16-year-old Haruma Miura, who plays her 15-year-old boyfriend in the drama, and Misako Tanaka and Katsuhisa Namase, who play her mother and father.
"For me at the moment, becoming pregnant is unthinkable, but I want to talk to my mom about (the role) and do my best," she said.
In the drama, a third-year junior high school student played by Shida becomes pregnant in a story of "love" and "life."
When Shida was asked what she would do if she ended up in the same situation, she replied, "I wouldn't be able to focus on anything. I'd probably be pretty hard on myself. There are still a lot of fun things I want to do, and I wouldn't be able to raise the baby even if I did give birth. I probably wouldn't go through with it."
She said she didn't have a problem with the love scene in the drama.
"I wasn't too embarrassed," she said.
Haruma Miura said he wanted to put effort into his role.
"I don't think I'll ever get the chance to play a 15-year-old father again. I want to act out the role carefully."
The drama screens on Wednesdays from 10 p.m., starting from Oct. 11. The theme song of the drama is "Shirushi," by Mr. Children. (Mainichi) |

A minor fire broke out Saturday on the set of "Oh-Oku", the movie adaptation of the popular Fuji TV series. Ten fire engines were called to Toei's Kyoto studios, but no injuries or major damage were reported. The fire is said to have been started by a lighting fixture. The movie stars Nakama Yukie as one of the battling wives and lovers behind the warlords of Edo Castle and the story is an extension of the series which ran at the end of 2005. Nakama is a new addition to the cast, which sees the return of veteran actresses including Matsu#a Yuki, Asano Yuko and Takashima Reiko, and also includes a whopping 31 female Fuji TV announcers. Directed by Hayashi Toru, the film is scheduled for release on December 23, the Emperor's birthday and a national holiday. There have been five TV series over the years, dating back to the first in 1968.

Arashi Concert in Korea Sold Out in 1 Hour
Tickets for the first Korean concert by the top Japanese band Arashi were sold out in just an hour, as some 150,000 people rushed to book tickets online.
Arashi will give concerts in Korea November 11 and 12 at the Olympic Park in Seoul under the theme "You Are My Seoul Soul."
A person from the firm that is organizing the concert said 12,000 tickets to the concert were sold out by October 18 on the online ticketing Web site Interpark, which is quite unprecedented for J-pop artists and attests to the band抯 popularity in Korea.
Arashi will give four concerts for its Korean fans.

Singer Hitomi (30) shares top billing with Matsuda Ryuhei (23) in the movie "Akumu Tantei" (Nightmare Detective). Directed by Tsukamoto Shinya, the supernatural thriller had its world premiere at the 11th Pusan Film Festival in South Korea. The movie's synopsis reads like "Nightmare on Elm Street" meets "One Missed Call". Detective Kirishima Keiko (Hitomi) tries to recruit a mysterious man (Matsuda) who can enter people's dreams to help unravel unusual suicides whose victims are found to have dialled 0 on their mobile phones before their death. With the current boom in Japanese horror and an impressive cast that also includes Ando Masanobu and Osugi Ren, it is sure to be a hit. Hitomi is known for her revealing outfits in promo videos and her movie role is said to be no exception. Matsuda is the son of late legendary actor Matsuda Yusaku. "Akumu Tantei", scheduled for theatrical release in Japan next January, has drawn interest from more than 25 countries.
