Earthquake Rattles Jakarta

By Mohd Nasir Yusoff

JAKARTA, July 17 (Bernama) -- Workers at tall buildings in central Jakarta ran out for their lives when a 5.5 magnitude earthquake that occurred in the Indian Ocean south of Java Island shook the Indonesian capital at about 3.20 pm local time Monday.

Among the buildings that felt the tremors were the 20-storey Wisma Antara (the headquarters of Indonesia's Antara News Agency) in Jalan Merdeka Selatan which also houses the bureau office of Bernama in Indonesia on its 19th floor.

A spokesperson from Indonesia's Geophysical and Meteorology Department said the earthquake happened at 3.19 pm west Indonesian time and tremors from it could be felt at most of the tall buildings in Jakarta.

"The epicentre of the quake was recorded at 9.41 latitude South and 107.19 longitude East about 620 kilometres south of Bandung," said a spokesperson from the department's Tsunami and Seismologi Division when contacted by Bernama.

He said, however, the 30-second tremor caused by the quake which happened at depth of about 30 kilometres from the bottom of the Indian Ocean at the location, was only felt in Jakarta and not in other parts of the Java Island.

The strong vibrations prompted, Agoes T, who does cleaning works at Bernama's office here, to flee the building using the stairway to save herself.

"I dare not take any risk after hearing for so long how damaging an earthquake can be," she said when met at the evacuation point of the building later.

Antara's financial director, I.B Alit Wiratmaja, said that he felt dizzy for a minute and found difficulty to stand up straight due to the tremor.

Malaysia on alert after deadly Indonesian tsunami

Jul 17, 06 12:19pm

Malaysian officials were on alert on today after an earthquake which sparked deadly tsunamis in neighbouring Indonesia.

At least five people were killed when a tsunami hit the coast of Indonesia's Java island, wrecking buildings and sending boats piling onto land after a 7.2-magnitude quake at 4.19pm.

But a statement from the meteorology department here gave assurances that no damage had been reported in Malaysia.

"The earthquake was very far away from Malaysia - more than 1,000 kilometres - and as such, the tremors had no effect on Malaysian infrastructure," it said.

The department recorded eight aftershocks between 5pm and 7pm ranging from 4.6 to 6.0, an official from the department's seismology centre said.

"We are watching for any new developments ... in Malaysia we don't have any reports of any damage yet," the official told AFP.

Stay away from beaches

The director of disaster and crisis management with the government's National Security Division, Che Moin Umar, said police in Penang and Langkawi islands and Kedah, all in the country's north, were on alert.

People were also being warned to stay away from coastal areas in those locations for several hours as a precaution, he said.

"We have directed our police at various districts to inform those around the beachside, especially for Penang and Kuala Muda (in Kedah) and Langkawi, to be away from the beaches," he said.

Che Moin also said Malaysia may send search and rescue teams to Indonesia, depending on the extent of the damage.

Sixty-eight people were killed in Malaysia by the December 26, 2004 tsunami most of them on the island of Penang.

Christian nations need prayers too. The Christians turn a blind eye and are blind to the atrocities of their fellow Christians and support oppressers  like Israel. They need prayers so that they will have some humanity in them and not just talk about humanity. They need prayers so that they know how to look at their own bad doings and their own weaknesses instead of looking bad at other people and making believe that they are right. They should learn from all this but they will never learn. The case of the Zionists are so clear. The United Nations have passed resolution after resolution condemning Israel's act of aggression and yet the christians are so dumb that they don't know, and pretend not to know, too full of gratittude to the Zionists.... except for Arab and palestinian christians

As for earthquakes & other natural disasters, they happen   everywhere.. and apart from prayers alone, we need to help those in need of help, no matter what religion they belong to.

Heat wave bakes christian state

Minnesota swelters as temperatures hit 100 degrees
BY NHIA TONGCHAI LEE
Pioneer Press
It didn't quite break record temperatures, but it surely felt like it.

For a state more known for its frigid winters, Minnesota was baking Saturday as a heat wave continues to scorch the region. And while there were more than two dozen medical calls across the Twin Cities for people suffering heat-related ailments, it appears Minnesotans were glad to take in the sweltering sunshine Saturday.

"It feels like 150 degrees"

Not entirely correct T8, Java wasn't full of mystic and pagan. In fact most Javanese Muslim are straight Muslims...

But I dont reject the fact in few part of Java, people did have ritual such 'offering' to the spirit of 'ratu laut selatan', 'gunung kidul' and other similar spirits... mostly practiced by less educated people.

All people, NOT only Javanese Muslims, but include Javanese Christian, Hindu involved in the rituals... so your argument not entirely correct.

This ritual influenced by Hindu belief that rule Java thousand years ago through kingdom Majapahit (a Hindu Kingdom) etc before Islam came to Java through 'Wali Songo' (9 pious wali) hundreds years back.

This ritual received criticism from the large Muslim organization in Indonesia such as MUI (Indonesian Ulama Authority),Nahdatul Ulama (50 million member), Muhamaddiyah (40 millions member) etc.

I saw at an Indonesian TV the death casualities increased to 80 people, I guess it will reach over 100 soon.... my prayer for the people in Java.

The stats say, every one of you, there are 5 more like you. US population 220 millions X 5 = 1 billion. Deduct that from the number of christians we first thought are. You could find christians are very little in number.

The so called Christians nations just name only because this so called Christians believing in feng shui, hindusim, mystic power and pagan ritual.

Firstly, pagan ritual and mystic  country should wipe out  with flood   with great wave.

Islam nations should learn from this lesson since they too bowing indirectly to an object and blend with pagan ritual during hajj.

If you want to be  safe from this disaster, come to me and my true faith the Twoness, I assured you all be safe and protected.
